I was up from the south east in a taxi in Edinburgh recently, having a good laugh with the taxi driver (I'm originally from Glasgow) about all sorts, when I cracked a joke about the trans nonsense - nothing particularly offensive just typical west of Scotland banter. The response was silence for the rest of the trip. Now this was an ordinary working class bloke. What I'm seeing as a visitor to a place I once knew very well is that ordinary people are being cowed into silence. I think the rot set in when the drink-drive limit was made far tighter than England - now you can't even have a half pint with your meal in the pub. More than anything it signified the censorious, neo-Presbyterian, politically correct dystopia Scotland is descending into. The model seems to be Ireland, another place where the miserabilists in the political class have taken over. Embarrassing for a Scot to admit but I'm so glad I live in England now - the proud English will never be slaves to this nonsense and the pushback when it comes will be glorious. It's already shaping up well.

We've never been social types, but we've interacted to be sociable and neighbourly. So for us it's no bad thing to 'pull up the drawbridge' and create our own little oasis of normality. We have a largish, nice garden with rural outlooks. We have our dogs. We grow our own food, have woodburner (free wood) solar etc.Chickens and ducks.
Unless people plan to get involved in some kind of violent uprising I think this is the only thing we can do. We're in a position to retire early.
I never understood what the Matrix film was all about at the time, but boy do I get the storyline now. Absolutely ANYONE can be an agent of the state at any time (we saw that during lockdown).
However people choose to deal with the reality we find ourselves in - I don't see it ending well. We are no longer a cohesive society. We are no longer a society - period.

It’s not that people don’t care about Haitians it’s more what can we do? Decades & billions & it’s still a hellscape. It’s never managed to get even close to righting itself. We’ve inculcated the people into learned helplessness, to wait on outsider help or to abandon their country & rely on another to take care of them. And when nothing improves somehow it’s still all our fault?! Perhaps stepping back & forcing them to stand on their own two feet to fix their own country & future that they want is the only way. And this applies all over the developing world - decades of trillions being thrown at humanitarian efforts with absolutely no progress made. Just ballooning demographics which only exacerbates other underlying issues. Maybe it’s just time we accept not everywhere can be be turned into a wealthy liberal democracy. And certainly not concocted by aid agencies. It has to come bottom up & internally because otherwise it’s not only going to fail but you have to start wondering if it’s what the people truly want since they’re not doing it for themselves.

Rape - are you sure, hours of interrogation. The Fringe -no funding, maybe we should cancel - so where are these wonderful Scots actors standing together and defending freedom of speech. Many of their acting parts in the past would possibly come under this bill today.Which authors and dramatists would be deemed offensive. My list grows every day . Where is Alister Jack when you need him? Back in 2021 [two years into his tenure as Secretary of State for Scotland] when this law was introduced I'm sure Alister Jack could have had Royal Assent denied under section 35 powers. I sometimes think that there are some bizarre laws that Westminster will allow because they either want to look at them themselves or they see them as issues that could destroy the SNP and in their blinkered way believe it could scuttle the case for independence. I'd just like to remind the Westminster bubble that the SNP do not own the independence campaign. The SNP should be our servants but they have lost our trust by being swayed by the Green's agenda.
If I was to be prosecuted for claiming that a transwoman's a man [for a' that], i.e. if I were to assert that a person born male with the usual XY chromosomes of a male would always be male do you think I could call as a witness in my defence the Government's Education Minister and my local authority education department? I was educated albeit only to GCE 'O' level in Biology and passed that exam. How would one calculate the value of the institutional harm that I have received and maybe caused? Could I make a claim for being mal/mis-educated? etc etc.

Different words but they are indistinguishable in practice as they are obliged towards the same objectives. None of which are good for us.
