After 10 minutes, I am guessing it was a soft seize after the kitting and rebuild and a lengthy run, usually due to too small a jet used, so insufficient 2 stroke oil entering the chamber - maybe he never upped both the original (smaller) jets . Love the dangerous wood chisel action lol.
Hi Max, it was un-naturally shiny. I checked the rotary duration in case it had been cut but it was standard and crank has the Piaggio badge on it, so either it is a recent replacement or the engine is very low mileage. Given that the cases are so clean all round, I think it is the latter, which is good for me !

Yep, I think you are bang on a very gentle nip up that did no real damage.
