Guest bio: Ann Bracken is an activist with a pen. Her three books of poetry take on the topical issues of family secrets like depression and alcohol abuse, the challenges of teaching, and the stories of the men and women hidden away in our nation’s prisons. Ann’s use of poetic language has garnered her two Pushcart nominations, a featured spot on Best American Poetry, and appearances on Grace Cavalieri’s Poet and the Poem radio series. Ann’s essays, interviews, and poems have appeared in Mad in America, Awakenings Review, and numerous other publications. Her advocacy work promotes using the arts to foster paradigm change in the areas of emotional wellness, education, and prison abolition.
Ann Bracken’s new book, "Crash: A Memoir of Overmedication and Recovery," explores mother-daughter depression and chronic pain experiences of struggling in a health-care system that often ignores women’s needs. Crash makes extensive use of primary sources, specifically Ann’s father’s original records detailing her mother’s treatment and Ann’s journal account for the years she endured depression and a chronic migraine. Crash serves as a missive to women fighting to heal, carve their own path, and demand better care.

Well-articulated discussion about issues in psych treatment, including the dominant thinking of the era, and reason people might continue with treatment that harms them.
I had all of this kind of drugging, ECT, so on, in my own version, as well as chronic migraines. It wasn't until a psychiatrist stopped 5 meds (I was on 7!) with no taper, and I endured awful withdrawal, and my mind eventually cleared, that I became aware of how psychiatrists were causing me to deteriorate over 4 decades of trying, and nobody would look at the treatment, nobody, but they were quick to put blame on me, both my compliance, motivation, and then the dreaded "treatment resistant".
We deserve and need better, not just for those of who've been harmed, but for future patients who inevitably will also be more injured than helped.

I'm doing Much Better since the end of summer. I've heard that it can take 3 years (minimum) for healing to start from the time you take your last dose. I'm at that 3 year mark now.
      Keep up your Awesome work!

Outstanding discussion! Thanks so much for all the discussions ~ this is one of the few places I can come to be validated.... Nearly 6 years off Klonopin (33 years) and am doing well with just a few residual symptoms. Realizing that drugs never really helped and caused so many problems. I'm fortunate to have gotten off all prescriptions and retained my sanity! I have absolutely no trust in the medical community except for the plant based doctors I see. Plant based doctors do not treat with prescription pads - they treat the entire person - lifestyle. To all who are in the throes of withdrawal, hang in there ~ you will get better, life gets better. @@Phin13760 - Hi Tony. Yes, I tapered off Klonopin (33 years), Effexor XR (18 years) and Topamax (13 years.) Not one doctor would help me taper, so I did it myself with the number of pills I had left. I do NOT recommend this....... I tapered much too quickly and have suffered the consequences. I'm almost healed and the last week of April will be 6 years off Klonopin, 5 1/2 years off Topamax and 4 1/2 years off Effexor XR. I still have burning and tingling in my feet and legs, but it's not too bothersome. I can do anything I want and have become very active since 2/2022. Take care and taper as slowly as you can ~ a rapid taper is dangerous.

    Hello.
Where is the video where 2 doctors (psychiatrists?) from USA (man and woman) and 2 doctors from UK (man and woman) talk about themselves being damaged by drugs?
    Is it deleted?
It was the video that made me know this documentary and I wanted to share it.
    Best wishes.
