  • My 1969 taco minibike has over 46,000 hours on it and it has the original clutch. The clutch started going bad around a week ago when I noticed it was losing power and other signs I included in this video. Enjoy and remember to subscribe and like. "Comment's will be replied"

    Another really important sign. Take a goood long look at your springs. What causes failure 99.9% of the time in these clutches is the springs due to overheating. If you hold the sprocket end of the clutch and spin it back and forth with your other hand and you hear a screeching sound its your springs. When the springs fail the clutch will engage at a wayy lower RPM and it will bog or fully kill the engine at high speeds. This video is extremely helpful, one of, if not only video going in depth on different scenarios to help identify when its time to switch it out, so thanks! Worth noting- clutches are perfect for ON ROAD riding. They can suffice off roading and hill climbing if you have a jackshaft and have it geared low. The best thing you can do (if you plan to ride on road and off road) is get a torque converter! Perfect for low end torque and with a 10% overdrive will give you more top speed. The greatest thing about a torque converter is once youve got it all installed, and something breaks (90% of tbe time its the belt wearing out) you go on amazon and bam you got a new belt for 6 or so dollars.
    On the other hand cen clutches are cbeaper than everything - 20-30 dollars on amazon and it also includes a 40 series or 35 series chain. If youre tight on money by ALL means just get a clutch, they work great for 1-2 years and will work 2-4 hears if you lube up the bronze bearing every month.
    Thanks for the video and hopefully the info ive shared will help ppl!

    Also when you are riding downhill and close the throttle, there may or may not be the (bearing) noise from the centrifugal clutch, but different noises from the CC will be reduced.

    I took my engine off my go kart and it runs perfectly fine at full throttle, but when I put it back onto my go kart it just sputters when I give it any throttle and then kills. I think it’s the clutch or chain but they’re both brand new.

    • @stevenmenzdorf5972
      @stevenmenzdorf5972 Před 4 lety +2

      If I understand you correctly, it isnt an issue with the clutch, it is a problem with your gearing. The engine runs fine when it's off the kart because theres no load for it to pull. When you put it on the kart and you give it some gas, the clutch engages, then has to pull both the weight of the kart and the weight of your body. If you put a larger sprocket on your axle, the clutch will have an easier time getting you going from a dead stop. A larger rear sprocket = more torque which it sounds like you need

    I said the heck with all the disassembly cleaning and oiling and reassembling and carrying lubrications in my fanny pack for my minibiking adventures and explorations I embark upon, I came up with a whole new way of getting my power to the earth below my rubber tires. It’s not a torque converter either! Those are just as much work if not more than a clutch because they have more moving parts and a belt then u still have to have a chain and sprocket off that! No thanks. Plus I heard they’re made for girls bikes mainl hehehahahahe😝. I installed a kickstand under my bike that when it’s down my back tire is actually off of the earth maybe 25-30 mm, ( that’s even w me sitting firmly on my luxurious seat made from my moms old night gowns made from red silk, chaahching🏦💃🏼 idk what she wears now that I snagged it out of her top drawer but who cares haheha. Then I went to my neighbor billy who fixes tailpipes for ppl all day and night in his side yard and had him just attach the sprocket to the engine with this special type of welding he knows how to do that actually comes out of toothpaste tubes so now I just start it up while I sit on it and then thrust my tummy forward like I’m on a bucking bronco and the kickstand goes up my tire meets the earth and hang on tight cuz it pops a big wheelie right in front of my arch nemesis neighbor Jeremy across the street from my house and his super smoking hot sister Jessicahhh aah aahh Lynn and I’m off to the mooon ! Or at least to the park down the street where Jessicaahhh aah aahhh meets me to clean my spark plug off for me before my exploration takes way. Best mod I’ve ever made!#clutchesandtcssuckjermeysball

I oiled the shoes of the clutch these past 2 times i rode, and the bell i can see has a very shallow groove where the shoes are (less than a millimeter deep). Is that fine? I learned that i am supposed to just oil the bushing and not the shoes area, and when my clutch had no oil towards the end of today's riding, it was very strong and grabby like it originally was. Luke Butterfield Hey sorry for the late response I had to go to the ER last night.... When it does that usually something is stuck in the clutch drum causing it to make it go. One other this is that your idle might be to high there is usually a screw to adjust the idle 👍👍

    The fact that you can rev it higher without the clutch on it doesn’t really say much, the engine doesn’t have a load on it, therefore it will behave differently

    • @streetstallion
      @streetstallion  Před 6 lety

      Joe you might be correct. But when i punched the gas it was going down steep hill. When the bike was younger i can rev the motor full throttle down the hill but now it was struggling because the clutch bushing was worn. I replaced the clutch and doesnt do this anymore, the old clutch was from 1969 just like the bike and the engine.

    • @streetstallion
      @streetstallion  Před 6 lety

      Joe it was also a test to see if the carb was going out to. But yea good thought! I would have never thought about it

      Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying the clutch wasn't the problem, I've just seen a lot of guys say that an engine is healthy based on what it sounds like without a load. Thanks a ton man, I definitely learned a thing or two about centrifugal clutches from this vid.
