- This week we are taking a short break from off grid cabin building to take care of some essential equipment repair. In this quick and easy video, you'll see how quick and easy it is to replace the starter rope (pull cord) and handle on a chainsaw. At least on the Stihl MS 290. This was the first time I've had to replace mine, and I was surprised how easy it was!
And if I don't make it fun, then I haven't done my job... I'll let you decide!
Check out my custom log gate video at • Building a No Hinge Cu...
Tune in next week for more cabin framing…still solo!
Thanks for watching.

You carpeted the bed of your truck!
The tools must be very comfortable back there!
Great Video!
Thanks! It’s mostly to keep stuff from sliding around…don’t have a liner of any sorts. And I occasionally sleep back there, but that’s another story. Appreciate you watching!
I can’t believe I spent time watching a pull cord video! Like watching fly tying when you don’t fish…….but I do both and enjoy it!! 😂
Outstanding! Thanks for watching!
I've never replaced a pull cord that easily, usually the flat spring clock springs and then the fun begins LOL
You and me both my friend. Ha, Ha, Ha.
Anything that has a tension spring in it defeats me.
That’s what I was afraid of. 😅 Thanks for tuning in!
Nice job, Whatever you do dont ever mess with the metal spring in a flywheel, you never get it back in place, well I never do LOL.
5:19 You are definitely half way to, "That's a knife!" I do like a damascus blade.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!!
some great information my friend
Appreciate that!
HEY...I came by to help ya ..lov from south alabama.
Appreciate the help!
Good video! Seems there's always something to keep you busy, even if it's not the cabin(s)!
Thank you so much. 🙏
Put on glove and take a cigarette lighter or a small torch and light the end of your cord and blow it out and quickly twist the end of the cord with your fingers tips and you will have a nice little pointed tip to work with. You should have spun your recoil spool around once or twice and held it as you put it through the hole in the recoil housing and then put the t handle on the rope you cut the cord to short you will find this out in time?
Yeah, i was going to say that as well. And check the rope length against the old one.
Only serious thing I could think of, are you hitting the end of your pull cord when you start it or is there more left that you could pull out after it's running? I'm thinking it will shorten the life of the cord if you're yanking it to the end every time you start it?
Not reaching the end as far as I know. I think it’ll be fine. Thanks for watching!
🇳🇴👍👍
Sorry, I can't pardon you for the wind noise! Why don't you just make it STOP!!! I'm kidding of course. People apologizing for the elements always cracks me up a little.
That is an overhand knot. Certainly not a square knot.
