I also have a Rollei 35, the earlier regular one made in Singapore. I have probably ran 50 rolls through mine over the past 2 years. I have taken some of my best work with this little camera. It’s great for street photography since it’s light, compact and discreet. The lens on the camera is tack sharp.

In lieu of pay I was given the 3.5 for a small job. I gladly accepted it! It sees the light of day now and again and is only reliable at faster speeds, but as object it’s just a beautiful time piece.

You highlighted a thing that I notice with my Yashica TLR and GW690, and that’s how little the camera vibrates with the shutter. 35mm SLRs shutters now sound like The Who on 11.
Right, you can seriously handhold a leaf shutter at quite slow speeds! See the Kodak Retinas, too.
I own a rollie B35, made in Germany. I got it a year ago on eBay and paid less than $100 with shipping. Its great to use and pictue quality is excellent. If you see one , buy it you won't be disappointed.
That one has the viewfinder on the other side for left-eyed people like me.
It seems, because of this video I now will own a 35 SE as well next to my TE, just because for the faster lens and which is, rather pragmatic looked at, quite silly... Well...life's silly sometimes.

Was looking at the Minox 35 GT and saw this little Rollie. It looks so cool almost pulled the trigger but watching people shoot the camera it looks so slow to manipulate the controls.
Wow. Would love to have that Rollei 35. AND you got the best one with a Sonnar lens. Double wow! Once I was in a pawn shop (I have lots of pawn shop stories), and I asked the owner if he had any old cameras. He goes in the back and brings out a crumbled dusty cardboard box. It was filled with great old cameras including several Robot cameras. At the bottom of the box was a Rollei 35 with the Sonnar lens. I made the mistake of asking him how much? I was about to offer him $50 since he obviously didn't know what he had. But he had already got on Ebay and said that the price was $500. Thanks, but no thanks! This was pre covid. I think I will stop there again and see if that crumbled box is still there. BTW I picked up on a trade from a local camera store a Voigtlander Vito BL. It is almost as small as the Rollei and has a wonderful four element Tessar based Color Skopar lens, zone focus and a surprisingly accurate selenium light meter. Took it to the Lake Huron shore and got great photos of icicles on a lake break wall. Love that it can fit in my pocket.
Nice story. Gotta love those Skopars, too. The deals are out there sometimes.
Digital for street and landscape, film for portraits. I agree, but I don't like guessing distance and need at least an uncoupled rangefinder . So for the same size, a Contax T is a better camera, 38mm f2.8.
Ah, I've not stumbled upon a T. Maybe someday.
@@kennethwajda Just be aware it's fragile. The electronic fails and the mechanical parts must not be stressed too much. It's a great little big camera, but if given to a war photographer without preliminary advice, it would we distroyed after half a roll.
Had four, two non working for spare parts, one in good condition that I sold, have one left not cosmetically nice, but in working order. Though I have the repair manual, it's extremly difficut to repair without the proper tools.
I'm pretty good with cameras and keeping them secured. But good to know, too! I often see them with dents, so I know they can't take a beating. Thanks!
@@kennethwajda yes, exactly, the removable back and top covers are made of a very thin metal sheet (aluminium or soft titanium, no idea) that is far too easily bended or dented. Half a milimeter of extra thickness ( and so 1mm external dimensions ) and in metal mass milled body parts would have given the Contax T that desirable toughness without noticeably changing its tiny dimensions. Price would certainly not have been the same too.
Hi- question:
You said you will do a sunny day at f11 @ 250 (I'm assuming your film speed is 200). I'm wondering why you don't opt for f16. Do you go a stop down to get better color saturation or something?

I'm shooting black and white and if I turn to photograph something partially in the shadow, I know I'm properly exposing for them. I never worry about highlights, they can go two stops overexposed and I can still get detail out of them, but if I lose my shadows, I have nothing, especially if that shadow is a face. So I expose for the possibility of shadows.

Steampunk withount steam yee XD But true is it is really cool camera. I own Rollei 35 and i use it more often than my Nikon S2 and Leica.
