Willie Nelson plays a vital role in post-rock & roll country music. Texas-born Nelson is an icon of the ’70s outlaw-country movement, favoring a stripped-down style that could both evoke desert-highway vistas (“On the Road Again”) and initiate the most intimate of conversations (“Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain”). He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the genre, whether that was Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash & Kris Kristofferson in The Highwaymen and written some of Country Music’s most popular songs including ‘Crazy’ made famous by Patsy Cline. In the 21st century, Nelson’s outlaw ethos has continued to manifest itself in all sorts of surprising ways: He’s become America’s most visible pro-marijuana activist and Snoop Dogg’s unlikeliest duet partner.
About the album:
An album of all-new recordings, God's Problem Child adds 13 new songs to the artist's repertoire, including seven recently written by Willie and Buddy Cannon, his longtime collaborator and producer. The album is Willie's first to debut all-new songs since Band of Brothers (his 4th Legacy release) reached #1 on the Billboard Country chart and #5 on the Billboard 200 in 2014.

It's 2024...I am 72 and grew up listening to Merle. Miss him and George and so many others. So thankful to have this platform to keep their music alive and available anytime the mood hits.
Just saw this on Willie's 91st birthday. Merle is my favorite ever. He would borrow minnows when I was 15 on Lake McClure in '74. Had a houseboat across the dock from us. Always replaced them and then some. I didn't even realize then.....how much he would mean to me later. Thanks Willie for doing this for our friend
Right there with ya. From Ireland ☘️
The planet may have stopped spinning for a moment when Merle passed, but Willie, when it's your turn, the entire universe will skip a beat.
Wow . . . so beautiful. Thank you Willie for this tribute to Merle Haggard
That's what happens when you get really old...You end up losing everybody and you're always grieving someone...What a moving Tribute
This song really is amazing!
The worst part of getting old is NOT being frail, nor having more aches and pains. The absolute worst is losing your old friends. Getting old ain't for wimps.
Damn Willie you did it again! Nice tribute to Mighty Merle!!!!!
Definitely a heartfelt performance by Willy. The song was written by Gary Nicholson.
True willie he won't b gone while us fans keep his music alive an while his sons keep paying tribute an singing his song yippees for writing this willie❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Willie gets better with age. please take care of yourself Willie, we can't afford to lose anymore of the greats.
I will be devastated to lose this amazing man
we will all leave eventually it is what you make of life that makes it so special.
No you live forever!Stay with us,take care!
he does 100%
That's exactly right!! The Love* of the highwaymen!!*
Willie can write a song about every single situation in life! What a talent...this is a good example of Willie singing about a friend of his who passed away. NO ONE WE LOVE is ever really gone, because they live on in our hearts and minds forever!
And on You Tube.
Merle considered Willie one of his closest friends, and Willie felt the same about Merle. Willie honoured his friend of 50 years the best way he knew how, by singing a hauntingly beautiful song together with Merle's youngest son, Ben, who sings backup and plays guitar throughout the song.
George Jones too.
@Willie Nelson can you not lol
Well said
Good luck Willie!
Only one Willie I'm sure gonna miss him when he gone!!!!
The guitar riff at the end by Ben Haggard, Merle's son... WOW! It gets me in the "feels." I shut my eyes and just see Merle effortlessly playing that jazzy riff on his Tuff-Dog Telecaster. Instead, it's Merle channeling through his son, and it couldn't be more beautiful. It's a signature style all to Merle, and thankfully his DNA is living large in Ben as well.
❤
Another example of why Willie is a country music legend. This album is a must have if you are a country music fan.A fitting tribute to another legend.
Great and interesting.
Trust you still listening? Prove me wrong
Right back at you Bud
There can't be a tribute more beautiful than this! Such warmth in the lyrics, such deep feelings in the voice. Brought me tears! Wondering how difficult it would be to sing this without crying. Deep respect for Willie & Merle. Love
amen . perfectly written
Amen!!! 💕
I can't believe it never got the results it should have
This is the song he wrote at the breakup of his marriage to BONNIE OWENS.Even in this great song I think the love respect and compassion for Bonnie he had comes through. RIP MERLE AND BONNIE❤❤❤❤❤
These comments are fro THE DREAM recorded in 1978 by the legend HAG
This is a brilliant song and tribute to the great Merle Haggard
❤❤❤. Rest In Peace 🕊️🕊️. Merle Haggard ❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe the most moving song since George Jones' "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes"
I felt same with George singing who is gonna fill those shoes!
I totally love Merle lol! And tried to do a tribute lol
agree, i just listened 5 times, just amazing
Sadly little did George know that it would be a bunch of pop country frat boys that were going fill them.
*going to
Country music was Merle. The men and women from that era made real country music.
You’re absolutely right. Country is getting filled with rap and I hate it.
They don't make them like that anymore! There's been a murder on Music Row :-(
You are so right!!
How very true

This will forever be my song for my best friend i lost. It hurts so much but i will join him one day so its ok. RIP to everyone who has been lost.
This song is about Merle Haggard, who became a CM giant with "Okie from Muskogee". He was 79 when he left us in 2016. He and Willie had some good times together. Willie is about 3 or 4 years older than Merle was, and we're so glad Willis is still with us!
Fantastic song !! I hope Willie never dies .He's the last of the real country artist before they all became disposeable corporate acts.
The only hope we have are Stapleton and Eric Church.
+Hunter Mcnelly Cody jinks has some good songs as well
And don't forget Alan Jackson
Y'all all wrong we still have Kris Kristofferson Alan Jackson David Alan coe And Good ole Hank Jr.
And sturghill Simpson
I feel bad for Willie, Merle was awesome.
I also fear that he self will die soon. If he survive 15 years from now then I will be surprised. Willie is the best guy singer in the world
Joar TR actually make that another 90 years. ;)
I have never stop listening to him I am 75 and been with him for a long time ..❤❤

Old timers slowly fading away, but the music lives on. Thank God. New stuff not the same.
My friend willie you are the best king of american country music, for ever, l tell you from Cuba, l never tire to hear you, Thank you.
Merle died on his own same birthday, April 6, 2016, the day after my 50th birthday and just two days before my beautiful 80 year old mother graduated up to Glory land. Merle Haggard kept me comfort with listening to him on my little transistor radio under my blanket at night since I was a little girl only 5 years old. HE WON'T EVER BE GONE ... HIS SONGS LIVE ON 🎶🎶🎶💃💃💃❤❤❤ Love you Hag and fam!!!
How wonderful to see Ben Haggard here with his dads music brother Mr Willie Nelson.Great tribute on this Mr Merle Haggard's Birthday and First Anniversary.Thank you.
RIP Hag'! Fantastic song Willie! You're truly the last of the breed.
Unfortunately, Merle is gone, but his songs and music will live on and on. Nice tribute to Merle Willie. R.I.P. Merle Haggard ♥
I remember first time I met Merle that was with the Hamilton Brothers when they had a special priviate concert in Geneva Ohio. It was then I was up close and personal with Merle when he was sick and having a hard time breathing. I helped him be able to breath again after he was able to gain back his ability to carry on with the event. Merle was very much a beautiful soul and a very caring individual I had the opportunity to know as well as enjoy his company after. And breakfast the next day was amazing with him. He was very much a charictor. Always full of smiles. This is a man who definitely is a legend! Merle has been missed by so many of us who truly had that opportunity to really know the true loving enjoyable man he was! Willie your Tribute to Merle is amazing and it shows the true friendships you have had!! God Bless you Willie and may our dear friend Merle R.I.P.

I've watched this video at least a hundred times and it tears me up every time that I do; even when the views are in succession. Merle is my favorite of all time. The fact that Ben Haggard is playing E. guitar and singing back up only sweetens the deal. I hope that Ben goes far in the music business. He is good! Pancho and Lefty is my second favorite song of all time. Thank you Willie. The words you sang are felt by millions!
Theres really nothin like laughter with a Friend.....Unless yer makin music together.....then its Heaven.....MERLE/WILLIE...God bless MERLE and Long live WILLIE...

Who's gonna make a song for Willie when he is gone (hope that is a long time away.) Since most of the old country legends are already ''gone''.
Anyway you will be always on our minds.❤
Really the only one left even close to the same level would be david Allan coe
“When it comes to country music he’s the world”. Amen! He won’t ever be gone for me. I still listen to him every day.

Hello Tessa , how're you doing, I hope you are doing fine. I'm David from Houston, Texas. Where are you from? You seems like a real Country girl😊🌹
I have been country since late 70s and never much a Willie fan, except for about a half dozen songs. When it comes to this song for our legend Mighty Merle, Willie nailed it. If you listen to Willie sing, the way he carries the note/tune, its epic. Its perfection at its finest.
❤❤❤. Rest In Peace 🕊️🕊️. Waylon Jennings ❤❤❤❤
Merle ,he will always be with us !!
My heart is crying. Beautiful. I love you, Willie. You and Merle are a fundamental part of the foundation of my life.
I love this song. Good job, Willie. Such a wonderful tribute to the best ever. He will never be gone, not as long as we can play his music, which I do every single day. Merle was the best. Thank you Willie for this song. Enjoy your music also.

Hello, how're you doing.?
So good to see Willie up and about. Thanks for the music, red-headed stranger
No matter what happens in life, Willie can make a song out of it, that everyone will remember, and he does just that! I can't even imagine a world without Willie, and that will NEVER happen, because he has left so much of him where we can always reach out and grab him when we need to! I find a lot of solace when I need it, in any one of Willie's very appropriate songs! THANK YOU, WILLIE!
Ok I'just love him. He
has left a imprint on all
our hearts. Thank you
For America's song book
Willie Nelson wrote this beautiful tribute to Merle, one of his closest friends. Their friendship went all the way back to the 60s. It must be heartbreaking seeing his buddies slipping away one by one. In this article Willie talks about that friendship from the time they met until Merle rang him and said that he had lung cancer. It's well worth reading.
