    The R2-D2 noises really caught me off guard the first time I saw this. I find it amusing how she keeps trying to prompt specific responses from the bird but half the time it responds with something completely random instead. Cute little feathery brat.

      @Brayden Dempsey the messaging pigeons could have spoken fluent English if they were taught well, but we will never know now because that species of pigeons is now extinct. Well rats! There goes that experience out the window... Now I will never be able to experience what it would be like to own a pet messaging pigeon. I guess I won't be able to teach it how to swear and cuss out everyone in the house! Oh well, parrots can do that too.

      @Charles Jackson Intelligent humans will now know they can start training Starlings to be VERY entertaining and do R2-D2 impressions absolutely perfectly, & that is fabulous! No doubt, baby Starlings could be lovingly trained that way. Since they have much more precise, clearer "pronunciation" capabilities than most other birds, and can do perfect R2-D2 impressions, that will make one of the coolest pets there's been so far! ❤❤❤❤

He had many phrases that he loved to repeat, and would give my mother the wolf whistle when she bent over to load the dishwasher, lol. He could even whistle the French National Anthem. I named him Mr. Longnecker, as his neck would stretch out so long during feeding time as a baby. He was the smartest, tamest bird that I ever had and lived to be over 10 years old.

    While I find the actual mimicking to be amazing enough on its own, what I'm most interested in, especially after hearing that R2-D2, is how it is able to store those specific sound patterns so accurately in its memory! I mean, the bird managed to reproduce a very specific series of chirps and beeps, as well as capture the metallic quality of the sound! I guess birds evolved to detect and reproduce patterns of sounds as perfectly as possible, but it's still so stunning!

      @seventy4 Yeah...I didn't actually think they were red listed in the UK. Only after i made that comment I Googled it. I used to remember seeing them flying in those impressive swarms but haven't seen that in years. We do have a lot around here on my estate, but in numbers you could count with 2 hands.

    • @doonhilla
      @doonhilla Před rokem +1

      @@V4demon_ It's so sad. Pesticides and grassland being built on are probably to blame for the most part. The swarms are called murmurations, amazing to watch for sure. Can't remember the last one i saw, many years ago at least.

      @@doonhillaI wish there was a feasible, environmentally-sound way to transplant the starling population of the US back to the UK. I suspect that 9/10 or more would have to be culled in any case.
      In the US, they kill tons of native songbirds and destroy ecosystems, and are horribly invasive.
