@@KLRGT500KR You're absolutely correct! It isn't a fair comparison, but it isnt really meant to be. The point I'm making is that never losing a dogfight kinda has limited meaning, or I guess conditional meaning. It's conditional based on how much action it saw and what the circumstances tended to be.

@@Zander10102 Well, then I know a lot more than you. It has seen a lot of air combat during the 36 years it was in service. I have many books on it. At the line of death during the 80s, there were dogfights with MIGs happening almost daily, but due to the Reagan ROE, they were not allowed to shoot the MIGs that were intercepted over the line of death. The F-14s were locking MIGs up over international waters at every occasion they were being aggressively turned into by the MIGs simply because they never gave the opportunity to the MIGs to open fire on them first.

If anyone is interested, you can fly these things in DCS World, a reeeeally awesome and surprisingly accurate fighter jet simulator, and engage other figures and ground targets as well. Planes (modules as they're called in the game) have to be purchased, and the Tomcat is one of the most expensive ones, because two people can operate it obviously. As of this year, both the F-14A and B models are available, when you buy the B the A comes with it, with the only real difference being the engines. The A's had the TF-30s, but the B's have the awesome, compressor stall-less General electric F110's. The simulator itself is free to download, but like I said, you have to pay for the modules and you would have to buy a HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick) to effectively fly it, but it ABSOLUTELY worth it. There is nothing, and I mean nothing like getting launched off a carrier, splashing a couple of Mig-29 from around 50 miles away using the AIM54 Phoenix missiles, then rearming and refueling and doing it all again. My father served on the USS John F Kennedy CV67, before i was born, and the Tomcat was both our favorite plane and when I saw DCS on CZcams, I HAD to do it. Check it out on CZcams if you want to experience it in its glory!

You probably hit the nail on the head... Surely, one of the best fighter aircraft that was ever made.... It was Dick Cheney as the Secretary of Defence, who put an end to this amazing program... Probably because he had other associates who were involved with building other aircraft and weapons systems, that were having trouble competing with the F-14 and it's SUPERIOR weapons systems... So with the stroke of a pen, Dick lived up to his name, and killed the best fighter jet ever produced.... Later , Dangerous Dick accidentally shot one of his partners on a hunting trip, with a shotgun.... Remember , this is the same guy who decided on several key issues, to keep our country save, from enemy attacks... Too bad he was not properly trained to handle a shotgun... Maybe Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebson) could have given him a gun-safety course, to ensure the safety of people near this un-trained yet-armed , former 'Secretary of Defence'.... How he got to where he was, I don't know.
