- With all the hype surrounding the Eldrazi, people seem to be sleeping on the energy decks. I've been having an absolute blast drafting energy and I believe it's got the tools to beat any archetype in the format. This time around, we went with Azorius energy, which focuses on evasion and tempo to close out games.

Favorite game was the natural 5 color land opponent who just scooped.

Victimize is pretty cool in Dimir specifically. Shadowspinner and a couple of cycling eldrazi fills the GY well and Sneaky Snacker is a great sac target. Unfortunately most of the cycling eldrazi have cast triggers so they’re not amazing to reanimate

I’m really wowed by how you keep on trophy-ing with not so bomb-y decks. That’s what I really liked about your vids. UW energy is my current favorite archetype, mainly due to exalted flyers backed up by counters/tricks, then replenish with card draws. Tune the narrative, cartographer, and battlewagon are top of my list. Looking forward for more vids like this. Thanks again!
Everybody fighting for eldrazi so just trying to go under them with the open energy archetypes. I think white is also very good as a color but I want to pair it with a proactive color combination. AKA avoiding w/b

I'm glad you picked up wrath. You're right, it isn't good in the most agressive decks but certainly worth speculating in pack 2. Decks I've seen draft wrath have combined game scores of 25-1 😮
Yeah I think there are defensively slanted decks where it would be very good

This format is interesting because splashes are so close to free. You had four incidental black sources here and a few decent black cards. I would have been VERY tempted to play the emperor of bone in this
Those sources aren’t free: they’re essentially tap lands. Also emperor is great because you can play it turn 2. Not really the ideal card to splash. If you play it late you realistically can’t cast and adapt on the same turn

People need to watch your videos. I have got last pick and 2nd to last pick Aerie Auxiliary 4 times in my first 6 drafts. People just way too glazed over by Eldrazi. I have yet to draft Eldrazi and doing well. I splash the Chrysalis anytime I have been in any 2 color combo that contains R or G. Even qith no other Eldrazi its just a good card.
That RW deck last draft was sweet. Anyone who hasn't see that one should be sure to watch that video
Roil Cartographer is really nice and you had the perfect deck for it. 😮
I feel like the cartographer is realllly good, I’ve drafted three energy decks with cartographer on them and the cartographer turned into ancestral recall every turn in all of them.
It is especially with common fetchlands
Royal Cart has been insane for me. Blocks well and I have activated it nearly every time I play it.
I also think it's good. Was just trying to be more aggressive/tempo oriented with this build but it's possible I still should have taken the cartographer!

I have lost several games to Molten Gatekeeper despite it having bad statistics. It doesn't deal the whole 20, but it does tend to punch above its weight class.
No shade on Paul, but its so funny to hear someone say "how can X be in the pack this late" and then pass it. :)
i barely see the sacrifice or artifacts deck, maybe too weak compared to eldrazi and energy
also take a shot every time paul calls angel of the ruins 'angel of the realm' haha
i dunno, i played against 2 RB artifact decks yesterday. one of them was insane and had 3 cranial rams in their starting hand. i got destroyed by that deck. the other one wasn't very good. but man, when artifacts is open it is an insane beating.
I feel like energy has to really get there to be successful, but even half-assed Eldrazi ramp decks are good. The sacrifice deck is auto-lose.
I hit mythic from gold in 2 days after I realized to force eldrazi every draft. I’ve won 6 trophies out of last 7 drafts since. I appreciate you posting non-eldrazi videos since I can’t seem to get them to work.
P1P1 I had the option between Nulldrifter and Chrys and I took Chrys. What are your thoughts?

Roil Cartographer is way better than you think it will be. Pretty sure it is Blue's best energy card by far.
I think the gargoyle is much better. I’m trying to tempo my people out so I wanted more proactive energy cards
@@haumph Its funny, you said that you never saw it draw three cards and the opponent immediately draws three lol. lsv tends to value this card a lot in his energy decks, although in the slower ones.
It’s specifically insane in U/R energy where getting 6 energy is trivial esp when you add its own landfall trigger
I deeply appreciate you showing ways to make other archetypes work, even if it requires playing tighter than you would have to with eldrazi or other powerful archetypes. Using your videos to study for the open next week, though I still feel like the dominant strategy is "hope to open eldrazi."
You better believe I'm hoping to just start things off by opening as many Chrysalis as humanly possible.
I think the kite will be the defining white common. I speculate that the reason this deck felt worse was because you didn’t shoot out the gate with 2/3 of them.

These opponents are surprising. Diamond players. RUw with no Galvanic Discharge in 20 cards, blows Static Prison on a 2 power creature with 16 life remaining, and attacks for 3 while behind on board. Wrong order to get blown out by Aether Spike.
3 Accursed Marauders is more believable.
Paul, you don't get to soapbox on Chrysalis pick 5 and then not take it. You are part of the problem by letting it go pick 6.

And your content is great. I'm sorry my tone was confrontational, it was meant as a joke and it doesn't read that way. It's still crazy chrysalis went pick 6.
I understood the intended tone, if it helps. Facetiousness is hard to write in text form, especially with strangers.
I may be wrong....but my read on Paul's response was that he understood the joke and the "don't tell me what to do" was in more of a "you're not the boss of me" manner.
