    ALL of their albums are different from each other and really need a couple of listens, I wouldn't go as far as to say they are concept albums but they do all have an individual 'theme' and sound motifs.
    I've followed their journey since their 1st album and they way they have evolved is spectacular, nobody else has done what they have IMO.

    There’s a “Disk 2” to this album that no one ever talks about. It’s a collection of songs that didn’t make the album that came out as a bonus a couple months later. It’s not really a cohesive album, but there are some great tracks on there.
    Also, OK Computer is required listening. It’s often in the discussion for the best album of all time.

    "OK Computer" has more of a rock base but it is so wide open and spacey and experimental and it is the lead up to "Kid A" and you can hear the transitions - and just like this sound may not be in the same vein which led you to love "Kid A" - 'OK Computer' I think will work the same way for you - the song quality - the tunes and moments are unforgettable throughout - and production is next level, the themes and writing - as "Kid A" and "In Rainbows" are cited as 2 of the best albums of the 2000's, "Ok Computer" is most often cited as the best album if not just the 90's but of all time. However, hey, we all have our vibes with music so maybe it won't be up your alley. But I'd say it is worth it. Radiohead change their sound on every album, though with some common through-lines...OKC notwithstanding, "Amnesiac" is pretty much "Kid A" part 2, they recorded it in the same session - it isn't as cohesive but there are many treasures in there. And the album between that and "In Rainbows" - "Hail to the Thief" - this is where they link what they were doing in the Kid A era to how they got to "In Rainbows" so it may well be something you enjoy, or who the hell knows! Music is so subjective. But one thing is for sure - this band operates at a level rarely found in the history of modern music and however you choose to delve into it, the fewer your expectations the better (easier said than done.) Also, and this isn't exclusive to Radiohead but it is certainly a hallmark of their music - a lot of songs sink into your brain and may not just take a few listens but for me it has been years before a song I used to skip became one of my all time favorites. Remember, while Thom Yorke is the songwriter, the number 2 in the band is lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood whose 2nd gig is an orchestral movie music composer, and he is the real deal, he has 2 Oscar nominations - so he is putting in elements that are deep and really sink into the subconscious to reveal themselves god knows when. I seriously recommend watching "In Rainbows: Live From the Basement" as it is a pinnacle moment in the band history and seeing them perform all these songs live - just 5 guys, no crowd, no tricks, creating these soundscapes in real time and it sounds arguably better than the studio version - it really creates a connection and an "ah hah" moment that takes the Radiohead journey to an entirely different level. Well done, thanks and peace!

      So appreciate all the context here!! Honestly reading this has gotten me so pumped to check out there other work, as I am so intrigued by the artists who choose to push boundaries when it comes to their craft. The idea that their records don’t blend together but rather feel so uniquely crafted is what gets me so excited about music in general. Their willingness to take risks and try new things. Amazing. Thanks so much for your comment and I hope that you’ll join me for the rest of my Radiohead journey!! More to come sooooon!!

      @@sickocam Right on man - from a pure 90's alt rock guitar crunching band with the first album, to a huge leap ahead and some amazing song writing and new sonic ideas on the next to breaking through on the 3rd with "OK Computer" to all-time global legend status, then taking what is called 'The Biggest Left Turn is Music History ' on the next "Kid A" (I loved 'OK Computer' SO MUCH al I wanted was like Part 2 and they came out with this sound from like Neptune or beyond that was so different and to this day, I think nothing else sounds anything like it -'Kid A' that is - it turned me off my favorite band for a few years, that is how different it is - thank god I came back (it was "In Rainbows" that brought me back)and now I love 'Kid A' - masterful - it isn't one of those 'oh it takes a few listens' for me it took a few years, not to say that'll be your experience as the sounds 23 years later seem to resonate more with the generation now that I was when it came out) - it took me coming back with fresh ears to appreciate that album and now I see it as one of the most unique pieces of art as music you'll ever find - they just keep changing every album while retaining their core, and it throws you off a lot as you go, but the song writing and sonic universes are always there. and with patience, growth of tracks that don't sound right initially but sink in later, as a super fan I am biased and respect other people feeling this way for other bands and that is what makes music great - as I also feel about say Pink Floyd, but if you like these concepts, this is a band that absolutely is worth the journey.

    Arpeggio (Italian: [arˈpeddʒo]) is a type of broken chord in which the notes that compose a chord are individually sounded in a progressive rising or descending order. Arpeggios on keyboard instruments may be called rolled chords.

  • @henryorwhatever
    @henryorwhatever Před 6 měsíci +2

    my interpretations for weird fishes/ arpeggi is that the narrator would be seduced with a relationship, he was at the bottom of the sea and would choose to go with the person because who would want to stay at the bottom? after the relationship fails, the narrator would then be at the bottom of the sea again, where weird fishes comes into play. the saying “there’s other fish in the sea” could be an explanation of the use of the animals, and the lyrics shows how there’s weird fishes and worms surrounding him. the only thing he hasn’t found yet is an actual fish that he wants, and instead he keeps getting weird ones and worms (failed relationships). weird fishes/ arpeggi is one of my favorite radiohead songs and i hope you can enjoy/understand it a little more bc of my interpretation! =)

    Arpeggi is just Arpeggio without the o. According to Wikipedia, the best encyclopedia that anyone could edit, an arpeggio is "a type of broken chord in which the notes that compose a chord are individually sounded in a progressive rising or descending order".
    I'd say Weird Fishes has a bunch of rising and descending, especially with the context of its music video.
    Oh, if you want more In Rainbows vibes, the album has a B-Side album which I'd argue is about as good as In Rainbows itself.

      I love Faust Arp, even though in the context of the album it almost always felt like a filler or pallete cleansing track. Maybe not to the extent "treefingers" or "fitter happier". Sometimes my first instinct would be to skip it, but by the end of it I've always wished that it was 3 minutes longer.
