  • The MS Sula (Orca Norway) is based in Skjervoy, in the far north of Norway (in the Artic Circle). I spent 6 days onboard the liveaboard looking for Orcas and Humpback Whales to swim with. As you'll see from the video it was a very successful week swimming with these magnificent creatures.

    I always have tears in my eyes when I watch videos like this 🥺.. Of course, because of joy 😊...it's my biggest wish in life to travel to Norway 🇳🇴 and swimming with orcas in the wild ❤

    What an awesome weekend! Such majestic creatures! Orcas and humpbacks swam together. Sula did a good job. It’s better to see orcas in the wild. Boycott sea world and all water amusement parks that abused orcas! Stop whaling!

    I envy anyone who has the balls big enough to swim next to a pod of whales!!! The majesty of these animals is just awe-inspiring and leaves one at a loss of words. This is the type of stuff that "wildest imaginations" are built on 💯 My new favorite pastime is whale watching on CZcams 😍 The Orcas have stolen my heart ♥ 🥰♥️ Thanks for sharing...

    dreaming about it!!!! Amazing video! Congratssssss 🥰🥰🥰

  • @christophercreighton5897

    The camera work and editing is fantastic because - I'm guessing - there is a human limit as to how much gear you can get on the boat and then in and out of the water. Spectacular results showing us your fantastic experience. Thank you for sharing it!

      I’m pleased you liked the video. Thank you for your compliments. Because we’re in and out of the water a lot during the day, it becomes physically tiring. If you had bigger cameras then it becomes even more tiring. Having a GoPro was perfect as they are so small and light. What makes it so tiring is that you’re wearing a heavy and definitely more cumbersome dry suit (because of the colder waters).

    BEAUTIFUL CREATURES!! I often wonder if Orcas have a soul.

    • @LaraLinx
      @LaraLinx Před 15 dny

      Of course they do!
      Any sentient animal has a soul, from Whales to Cats & Dogs. Where there is intelligence & love there is a spirit, a soul.
      And just for reference, most whale species not only have bigger brains than humans, but they have a larger frontal lobe than we do. That is the part of the brain that controls things like memory, emotions, social interactions & much more.
      Orcas have their own Matrilineal culture & languages (unique to each pod around the globe). They are fierce yet playful. They mourn their dead.
      Modern Whales (of all types) have lived on this planet for 34 million years. They were here first, long before us.
      I bet they wonder if WE humans, who have committed so many atrocities against them over the last 500 years, have anything that resembles a soul! 💙

    • @SteveColliganUK
      @SteveColliganUK  Před rokem +1

      Hi there, the orcas are only there from November to January because of the herring. Daylight is reduced during those months, but November has more daylight than the other 2 months. This is when I went and my preference. Plus it’s not quite as cold as December and January.

    • @SteveColliganUK
      @SteveColliganUK  Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@tenover the sun doesn’t get that high during the winter months, so lighting isn’t at its best for the GoPro. So best not to overdo the high settings. The iso was on auto, and filmed at 4K 25fps. Obviously it depends on what part of the world you are whether it’s 25 or 30fps. Don’t use a filter as this will cut down the the much needed light. Enjoy your trip - you’ll have an incredible experience.

      Hi Alice, I’m pleased you liked the video. The company I used was Orca Norway, they have 12 guests onboard (MS Sula). When that boat is full they put on a second boat for a further 12 guests. And if that boat fills up they start to fill up a third boat, of 12 guests. They do 1/2 week trips as well as a full week. Yes, at that time of year (November to January) there are the beautiful northern lights. I saw them every night. I hope you manage to go, as it’s a once in a lifetime experience to swim with Orcas. Don’t forget, there are also lots and lots and lots of humpback whales as well as Orcas.

      @@SteveColliganUK thank you for your reply. May i know how much you spend for the orca trip? I want to calculate the budget ... is i take 3days i will meet the orcas? Because i read in their website if the weather good, and its nature. Thanks

    • @SteveColliganUK
      @SteveColliganUK  Před 6 měsíci +1

      If you go onto the OrcaNorway.com website they will have the latest prices for 1/2 week and full week. The orcas and humpbacks are there at that time of year. Yes, you could be unlucky with the weather and not get in the water. That’s why I would always recommend going for a full week and increase your chances considerably. The weather would not be bad for a whole week, but possibly for 1-2 days if that. The weather is quite settled at that time of year. We had one day where it was too windy, so we just watched all the humpbacks from the front of the boat.

      I'm pleased you liked the video. The season for Orcas is from late October to January. I went in November and would recommend that time as there would be even less daylight in December and January, plus colder too.

      @@SteveColliganUK thx for the reply! Thats great to hear as I am planning to do it in Nov of this year! If you don’t mind - how’d you end up picking orca Norway? Looking at waterproof expeditions as well. Also - any other specific tips or info that you could tell me / recommend that I should know? Key things? Greatly would appreciate as it’s hard to find many ppl that have done this trip!! Thanks!!

    • @SteveColliganUK
      @SteveColliganUK  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Orca Norway are the company that started all this. They are 101% passionate about the welfare and safety of the Orcas. But I’m sure Waterproof would be too. The Orca Norway boats (up to 3 of them depending upon number of people booked) are smaller, older, but more character than the newer Waterproof boat. There’s pros and cons for both. I do like the look and space of the Waterproof cabins though. That’s a big selling point actually. With Orca Norway you can book a 1/2 week, or full week. Definitely do the full week as there may be days when you can’t get in the water because of bad weather. Take a GoPro, or similar, but don’t use any filters, as not needed. It’s tiring, so get yourself fit. We were in and out of the water 14 times the first day. Orca Norway provide thermal jumpsuits for when you’re on deck whale and orca spotting. They also have daily lectures in the evenings on orcas and humpbacks. You’re pretty much guaranteed to see the northern lights. If you’re into photography, then also take a decent camera and tripod. To be honest, mobile phones are actually excellent alternatives at picking up the northern lights even when your eyesight doesn’t see them. It is cold at that time of year, so lots of warm layers is essential. If you hire one of their dry suits for swimming with the orcas, then make sure you have warm layers to wear underneath. Incidentally, drysuits are extremely buoyant so there’s zero chance you’ll be able to swim down underwater. This is not a problem at all as you’ll see them at the surface and below you. It’s an incredible experience that you’ll 100% enjoy.

    Epic. I just started my research into the various companies that provide this type of trip and your video has been really helpful! It's great to see a firsthand account (rather than an advertising video). How long were you able to stay in the water before getting out? How often were you able to get in the water during the 6 days trip?

    • @SteveColliganUK
      @SteveColliganUK  Před rokem +5

      I'm pleased you liked the video - thanks. It's such an incredible experience to be in the water with these beautiful creatures.We stayed in the water as long as the orcas stayed. Sometimes the orcas were just passing through and so we were in the water for less than a minute. Sometimes the orcas would be playing and would be around for several minutes. And if they were feeding on the herring, then it could be 10's of minutes. I remember doing 14 different drops into the water on the first day. All 12 of us were in the smaller boat at the same time being dropped right next to the orcas. We went out looking for orcas and humpbacks on all 6 days. These are wild creatures and so nothing is guaranteed, but when these trips run they pretty much guarantee some kind of interaction throughout the week. You'd be extremely unlucky not to have some priceless memories over the whole week to be honest. There were 2 days with no orcas, but plenty of humpbacks to make up for it. I hope this helps and you get the opportunity to get out there.
