Torts is awesome. He's the one dude in the past 20 years, who absolutely demands accountability from his players, the media, anyone and everyone. I'm not a believer in coddling professional athletes.
You have a job to do, whether you win or lose, you have to show that you can do your job, for the stupid amount of money you make. If they play their hearts out and lose, he will stand up for them, and give them the credit they would deserve. If they he's calling them, well, then I have zero doubt that he has reason to.
Torts has always demanded this of his players over his career. If players respond negatively to it, then he's right, they don't have what it takes to play in those situations.
I wouldn't exactly disagree with you, but it gets to a point where it's like, "is his method getting the most out of his players", and i think history shows us that torts success as a coach is a finite thing, sure it works for a bit, but eventually players get over it, and i don't blame them. It feels to me like it goes from proper expectations from a coach, to disrespect

I never liked the Flyers until this year, the underdog story combined with the endless entertainment that is Torts… I really hope they make the playoffs, they are hella fun.
Man everything went to hell for the Flyers when Sean Walker got traded. Before the trade deadline, I was 100% sure that these guys had a playoff spot. Now, there's a real chance these guys won't even get in.

Sean Walker had potential but that’s not the reason why this team is starting to slow down. Ovi really stepped up and we couldn’t get any gaps on the capitals. We also went through that brutal schedule. This team was expected to be amoung the bottom 5 in the whole league they are overachieving there expectations even if they don’t make the playoffs
Injuries have not helped at all either with Drysdale and Seeler being out for a month or so.

That's the thing, even if the Flyers make the playoffs the main reason is the rest of the division severely disappointed this year. Flyers are a very average team that has some bright spots.

Considering it’s year 1 of a 3 year rebuild…. I’m happy as a flyers fan. This season has been fun to watch. I’ll be gutted when we’re knocked out but I can’t complain after enduring the last decade. Future looks fun in Philly

Torts has had them playing play off style hockey all year just to compete with more talented teams. Fatigue is setting in and they are having difficulty playing that north south style of hockey that torts uses. Hopefully they get rewarded for their efforts and make it to the first round.
I'm a Pens fan, and we all know they will never make it to the playoffs. But I do hope the Flyers make it in ... they've been quite good and very competitive for most of the year.

I have no clue how it's going to end, but the Metro imploding has been super interesting to watch. I could legitimately see the 3rd Metro spot be under 90 points with how spots 3-7 have been playing. There's a solid shot Detroit ends up with more points in WC2 then whoever finishes in that Metro 3 spot. Any belief I had in Philly is fading fast. In a heated playoff race with under 10 games to go they lost in Montreal 4-1 and at home versus Chicago 5-1. Two of the bottom teams in the league, the latter of which had a sub .200 points% on the road, and they lost both handily. Their remaining schedule looks easiest of any of the teams fighting for the last 2 east spots, but I'm questioning every single game for them now. If they lose even 2 of their next 3 against Buffalo, Columbus, and Montreal they're in big trouble.
Torts need for attention outweighs his need to win. He can't stand the thought that anyone but TORTS would be the face of the team. Philly deserves him.

I'm so glad he wasn't here in Vancouver very long. The guy is a Diva and was a huge distraction. Tocchett is the exact opposite of Torts. Calm, Collected, great with the media and we love him for it.

I agree with him. Everyone in that team is depending on the other player to give more, I don’t think this team has what needs to get to where they have to be
Torts still cannot explain why he healthy-scratched their captain. He’s made himself the centre of the entire franchise. And I think the players are picking up on that, and it’s killing their motivation and undercutting any attempt he tries to light a fire under them. Why would you listen to a coach who seems to care more about being the centre of attention than getting the team in the playoffs?
This is why Tortz style of coaching doesnt work and also how this only works for few seasons. It is different to be demanding coach but torts is just psycho and anything is never hes fault.
I am a Leafs fan and I like the Flyers. If they won the cup that would be cool.

Is it just me, or is EVERY playoff team losing to the teams that have struggled most of the year? NYR, COL, FLA, etc are all losing to the likes of CBJ, ANA, and PIT.

This is the correct answer. Every cancer by zodiac is like that. He is really the only "player" on that team fighting right now. I noticed there are good players on that team, but only when things are going good, the second it gets tough they fall apart. In all fairness to those players Torts got out of them way more than he should already. Roster simply does not have it. They can only play as a team, as a single body. I really don't understand why the team is not fighting. They don't have to win, but they have to feel their life is on the line. Torts is the only one that is feeling it and wants it. Others simply don't want it bad enough.

I think Torts needs to realize his comments are great for headlines, but not for the mindsets of the players. They wouldn't be their if they weren't winners.
While they did leapfrog Washington for the third metro spot, Washington has 3 games in hand on them, and the islanders 2 (I think)
Capitals have 2 games in hand being 1 point behind(with the same amount of regular wins).
Red Wings have 1 game in hand being 1 point behind(with 1 more regular win)
Islanders have 1 game in hand being 2 points behind(3 less regular wins)
I would be disappointed if the Flyers don’t make the playoffs. But I should be happy even if they don’t because they were not supposed to be anywhere near a playoff spot this season. Being a sports fan can drive you crazy.
As a flyers fan, I 100% agree with Torts. He's one of the best things to happen to them in awhile
NOBODY ever expected the Flyers to make the playoffs. They were close then they lost their goalie (Carter Hart). Next year perhaps the Flyers will make that jump to being a playoff team. I like the management team of Jonesy and Danny, and Torts has done a great job! Flyers indeed have a bright future. In a couple of years the Devils, Flyers, even Buffalo and the Red Wings will all be very good again. 😁

Think the Flyers earned the point vs the Isles. Could not believe how NYI iced the puck instead of springing for the empty net until the Philly goal at the end of regulation. Flyers have a chance, especially if stellar goaltending happens.

The horrid OT turnovers they're doing and in key situations is very worrisome.
The Flyers were never a cup or playoffs contender.. this is a great video for New Jersey, Islanders, Pittsburgh, Ottawa.....

As a lifelong Flyers, this is typical Flyers and why the team has been stagnant for a decade.
We are in a rebuild so this was a throwaway season where you play the young guys, and get a top 5 pick. Tortorella is the wrong coach for this team.
We are waiting 2 more years for Michkov, along with have massive cap room that summer too. Instead we have a coach that is burning bridges with every player, including the Captain, and is going to be fired when the Flyers are ready to really compete.
I don’t think the Flyers are collapsing, the cracks were showing as we’ve had the worst PP all season. That was eventually going to come back and bite you.
So we will get a mid first round pick, either make the playoffs and lose in the first round or miss the playoffs. This is why the Flyers haven’t won a Cup in 49 years, they REFUSE to fully commit to a rebuild and we continue in mediocrity.
Flyers will make it. Torts is right about everything. They are NHL players they can not crack under pressure.
Sabres coach Don Granato is, they say, the opposite of Torts - a player's coach, team loves him, doesn't call out players publicly. Many Sabres' fans now want a John Tortorella-type coach. IMHO, bad idea.
Difference between their results is night and day. The Sabres couldn't be bothered to half-ass 90% of the games they played this season. Philly (a team that was projected to be in contention for the #1 pick this year) has been holding down third in their division most of the season.

Torts may be the last true coach in the league by the time he retires or is forced out for any of his ways by the "new" nhl narrative...this is a dying breed of coach seeing the end of players playing for the team and wins and not just the individual awards/money
