By chance I had the opportunity in 1972 to listen to Dollar Brand in a concert (solo piano). I was hypnotized, did closed my eyes and went on a journey... This opened a door for other genuine jazz musicians like Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, John Coltrane, Archie Shepp and many more... With great gratitude ❤
It was 1996, a friend told me to get this album, heard it, nothing was the same anymore. It changed my taste in music permanently. Ibrahim I thank you for bringing this Joy and peace into our fragile human lives!
Ditto!
I saw him at the Nimbin festival. I was able to sit on the floor beside him in a house up out of town. He would start off with a simple rhythm and add onto it and build on it. As someone who grew up with jazz it was mind boggling. Other dimensions. The festival is having it’s 50th anniversary in March 2023.❤🌹j.
Same experience in for me in late '80 with "Water from an ancient well", a treasured gift from a dear friend.
And me
I remember my late brother, eish, lala ngoxolo bra wam, hoza mtwana still like a fish in the water in 2023
DOLLAR BREND S IDEAS IS VERY GOOD TO EVERY BODYS MIND
One of the greatest compositions of our time
A master piece indeed! An immortal piece of music that will live on as long as there is an African Market Place.
depuis plus de trente ans que je connais cet album...je le trouve toujours aussi inspiré, magique, riche, original...une perle de l'African jazz
I just want him to perform at my wedding before its too late. Who wants to get married real quick
🤣
Fasho

Eine ganz wunderbar schöne Musik, in der ich schwelgen kann...
Found this in tape form in a dusty old bag of tapes given to me by a Northampton jazz pianist who introduced me to much good music . The eighties hold fond memories of such people and places , many thanks for reminding me !
My grandfather loved this song
Had the pleasure of seeing Abdullah Ibrahim in Ann Arbor 4-5 years ago at the Hill Auditorium. He put on an incredible show, the whole time with a cigar in his mouth.
I love that place, I got to see and meet Zakir Hussain at the Hill Auditorium with his Masters of Percussion tour
goddamnit Ryan, why didn't you tell me he was coming to Hill! haha
I saw him at a really beautiful little concert hall in Detroit, prolly 15 or 20 yrs ago, just him alone with his piano, so intimate & so beautiful!! ! !
for the life of me I can't remember the name of the place!
at Hill I saw my 1st & worst Dylan show in 88 I think. saw Harry Chapin there more than once, dad & I got to meet him! I saw Elvis Costello do the 7 deadly sins show there, great! Saw the GREAT Cecilia Bartoli there, a2 folk festival a few times... can't remember any others at Hill
Joyous music full of life and beauty.
I used to have a cassette of this way back in time...and could never stop playing it!
one of the mellower offerings of ibrahim.. so soulful... i love those lilting melodic phrases which are his folk signature.. africa rocks! 🎶🎵♫¸.•*¨♥✿♪
African talent at its best, i appreciating this old man's music 👌👌👌. Thanks the dollar brand.
Jazz is the king of all music
🖤 Y África la gran madre de todos 🖤
What a song.
GREAT MUSIC THANK YOU YUM YAM.
Gone a those days
Have loved his music for decades as an important collaborator on Paul Simon's Graceland.
Abdullah Ibrahim doesn't appear on Graceland.
The cover of this Album says it all. The way the first track comes in as you glance at the cover you cannot help but play that image in your head, the soothing sounds grab your emotion like you are kid seeking attention.
Just the version I was searching for. The very best of Abdullah.
thanks for uploading these African classics.
Dollar Brand has been a musician from Cape Town and not known in Denmark except for a few intellectuals of the time when he started up as a musician.
When I lived in Maseru Lesotho with the old flag I knew of him as I grew up, never knowing Denmark - beautiful Kaap Staadt🙏
Chocolat (1988) brought me here
Um dos melhores concertos que vi em minha Vida. Pelo menos, até agora...e já vi muitos acreditem...
Vi este Homem a Solo ao piano em Concerto no Teatro de S. LUÍS em Lx. Porrugal. Sou Portuguesa com muito orgulho e honra.
Este Senhor também é Honoravel, acreditm.
Adorei. Amei. Foi à + de 20 Anos. Para mim parece que foi "ontem"....
Gratidão
Most high profile music, the quality, the harmonic sounds,
This was the album used by my uncle to introduce me to jazz. Thank you Micro Maaga. I never looked back after that
A great African Talent
"Dollar Brand"
mercy, mercy, mercy; in my mind Mr. Cannonball Adderley would have admired and loved this album the same as i do.
love this album
Appreciation from me...
This is the "Dollar Brand" I most remember. Now of course we know to call a great man by his real name. Abdullah Ibrahim. So in some things times change for the better I guess. Some things.

young as I am the song gives me life hey, you old people listened to real music not this nonsense of today
And you my young friend, are on your way to having great taste !
Hey,who you calling "old",kid? And,while I'm at it-"GET OFF MY LAWN!!"
please just shut up and enjoy it no one cares
there's so much good music today you're just ignorant of it
The title song (from the film Chocolat, 1988) is the best.
