The title _Songs for Dark Gods_ and knowing that there is a terrifying, Ganesha-like entity named Chaugnar Faugn in the Cthulhu Mythos only makes this piece of art more appreciated.

@@rageagainstthewashingmachi2877 Indeed, it can be. The person you are leaves a mark in your works, however faint. But I prefer to look at the example of Chaugnar Faugn more as the defilement of a sacred symbol. Not in the same way the upside down cross is associated with the Devil. More like an unexpected, horrifying truth behind the known reality. Not a nightmare hidden in shadows, but rather a monster hidden in blinding light. That's why I see Chaugnar Faugn as terrifying.

Wisdom and knowledge are not dark, but the same cannot be said for the methods used to acquire them. Especially wisdom. Wisdom is what comes from harsh experience. The coin used for its purchase is trauma. So yes, any god of wisdom and knowledge has a dark side, or is primarily dark, or at least, that's my opinion, and I really don't want to elaborate on why I hold it, because that would make me dip into my purse of memories and trauma.

*Vikata* = Ganesha's form/avatar when he destroyed demon Kamasura.
*Vignaraja* = Ganesha's form/avatar when he destroyed demon Mamasura.
*Dhumravarna* = Ganesha's form/avatar when he destroyed demon Ahamkarasura.
In some of those stories, Ganesha takes a certain form and might not physically fight, just intimidates the demon away by his mere appearance.
But in the rest of the stories, he physically defeats/slays the demons who were hurting others or wrecking havoc.
So in conclusion, not many people, even Indians or Hindus specifically, often realize, that all Hindu gods/goddesses, have,
One form/avatar where they create, one where they destroy, one where they are known for marriage/fertility, one where they are known to gift devotees wealth, one where they are artistic, one where they are education/knowledge gifter, etc.
People know those gods/goddesses SEPARATELY, but they often don't think, that those are all different forms of ONE main god/goddess.
It's the god/goddess's way of telling us, how the world is balanced by all those things, creation, destruction, materialism, education, knowledge, arts, etc. And hence they help the devotees by taking different forms for individual purposes. (Sometimes one god/goddess has 2 or 3 purposes at same time).
All Ammans (female goddesses) are merely different forms of ultimate female goddess Lalitha Devi.
We Indians commonly would've heard how Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge/education, Laksmi is goddess of wealth, Durga is associated with fighting/war but mostly protects her devotees from evil, Kali also protects devotees from evil but she is more known to be prayed by people who want to defeat enemies/win war/fight, not just being safe.
Not many people realize that all those goddesses with totally different themes, are actually different forms of ONE main goddess.
It's the same with Ganesha, Vishnu and Shiva.
They all have their own forms, where they handle different tasks/themes. People are just used to seeing Ganesha in his calm form only. So they assume "Ganesha = peace".
But believe me, once Ganesha goes into WAR mode and takes a unique form, peace is not his option.

The background is actually Ganesha. The Indian Elephant God, The son of Lord Shiva & The first god in Indian culture to be worshipped on every occasion.
By no means a bad omen or a Dark God. People who don't know anything, especially outsiders do whatever they like to make an edgy background.
There are many bad gods in Hindu religion but Ganesha is not one of em. Also he doesn't have those tentacles that are depicted in this background image. 👍😀
