Girl I feel your pain!! I've tried wash n go's several times. Failage!! I am going to try it one more time when the weather get's warmer and since my hair is longer now.
I can relate with your experience with the wash and go. I haven't given up yet...once the weather gets warmer and I take out these Marley twists I will try again. Check out CZcamsrs African Export and cynthiarf since I think their hair is similar to yours for wash and go tips. Hope this helps. xoxo
I actually love wash and go's! (IGNORE MY PROFILE PIC lmao, I am 1.5 years natural & 4c) I am way lazy with my hair and I find my natural coily curl pattern shows up more when my hair is wet. I've tried doing wash and go's with gel and it just didn't work for me: my hair was super sticky and wet forever, and blow drying it just made it crunchy. I've seen other youtubers that swear by gels though; me personally, I prefer to spritz with oil + water mix and then seal with Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie (or whatever other curl enhancer). I think it just comes down to finding what works for your hair and your lifestyle though, and if wash and go's aren't working for you, don't force it! ^__^ Do whatever makes you and your hair happy~
I have been researching wash and go methods for my kinky hair also. The fist time that I tried a wash and go with store bought gel my hair never dried. That has deterred me from trying a wash and go again. If I do take the chance and try again, I would use a conditioner and flaxseed gel, and it would have to be summer so that the air isn't so dry. The homemade flaxseed gel is better than any other gel I have used because it is not drying to my hair.
First let me say there is absolutely nothing wrong with your results .. Its more of a wash and fro'.. and its gorgeous.. That being said..Wash and Gos are my go to style.. simply because I'm lazy and I don't have the patience for a twist-out all the time for curl definition... No my version is not a true wash and go because I do have to apply leave in, oil, and then a gel as well as re-wet my sections as I move through my head but I can do that in under 15 minutes and get it to last for some time so its worth it to me... For those who say that is not your real curl pattern I ask How is that any different to manipulating your curls doing twists that take you 30 minutes or longer? (rhetorical question not really a question question) But I digress... I would re-consider your gel aversion if you want to try again for a more defined wash and go... XOXO ~Toni
I think the problem was you didn't use gel in your hair at all. When I see wash and go's on youtube, It's seem like everyone use some type of gel to form their hair and usually it comes out great. I know you're not big of gel but you should use at flaxseed oil gel instead of just regular chemical gel. its more natural and it doesn't leave your hair crunchy. lol
I think I have to suck it right up and do that lol :) I'm just worried that my hair will turn out a) with some heavy residue b) crunchy c) a terrible combo of the above! Thanks for the advice, and the next time I try out a wash and go, it is going to be "going" with some flaxseed gel :) Thanks again!
if your hair gets "curly" when you wash then usually you can go with it whether you put product or not there would be a curl pattern. You are gorgeous!
I think you shouldn't give up because I have a similar hair type to yours and I found out that I actually can do wash and gos after I was my hair I Moisturize my hair doing the LOC method and then use aloe vera gel "Fruit of the Earth" brand to seal everything in then I lightly blow dry it pulling it down with my hand

There was a time where my subscription box was flooded with people trying to demo wash and go's.

Have you tried curl activator gel? I have really tight s-curls and it worked for me when nothing else would. I haven't tried Curls Curl Jelly, but curl activator gel is a staple. Make sure to seal the moisture in your hair before the gel to ensure softness as it dries. :) I hope this helps, let me know if you try it.

Next we have to proceed to scrunching or shingling the hair to define the curls and coils. Next we have to use a dryer, or let it air dry for hours in order to let the white stuff from the products disappear. The name "Wash 'n Go" suggests that you wash your hair, apply a moisturizer and/or sealant and then go out the door. That is not what happens with us--unless you have a looser curl pattern. I have 4c hair, and I can do wash and gos. However, that is because I cut my hair in a low tapered cut. This makes it look cool with just some moisturizer and a little shaping. I can go out the door right away after washing my hair.
Flax seed gel is fabulous, but it does dry my hair, and it does leave it crunchy. But the definition is the best! I use rachelcpr's recipe. Also watch Longhairdontcare's latest wash and go video. She uses curl activator gel with ecostyler gel. That combo WILL WORK! Your curls will be defined and there will be no crunch.

U shud let it dry in twists and don't use a washout condish as a leave in.. Prob put so more products in ur hair too so it's not dry
