  • Edit: Part 2 is now out, with more complex synthesis and sounds. Here:
    • Sequential Pro 3 Part ...
Close encounters of the synth kind: A few patches on the Sequential Circuits Pro 3, a great analog/hybrid monosynth with three oscillators (2 VCOs and a wavetable), three analog filters and a ton of other features.
Much more can be done with this powerful and versatile instrument; in the limited time had so far, I mostly limited myself to dynamic, playable analog sounds.
No external effects were employed. Also no eq, compression or anything else. What you hear is the straight output from the Pro 3.

Probably the only video on CZcams where someone actually plays the damn keyboard instead of just making noises and turning knobs! Awesome demo/sounds man and cheers for tarkus! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Can’t wait for my PRO3 to arrive!

Thank you! You can also check my other Pro 3 video, which in my view includes more mature sound design:

That synth sounds great and I think may be one of the best sounding synths out. It covers a lot of sonic ground. Sure its mono. Perhaps Sequential will come out with a polyphonic version of this Pro3. I would by the poly version in a heartbeat as I think the Pro 3 is easy to program and sounds great. A well rounded synth. I believe a poly version of the Pro3 could compete with the Moog One as long as it hit the under $3,500 price point for say 8 voices.

Yes, absolutely. I'd even say that in some aspects, it would be even more versatile than the Moog One. Maybe with a few improvements, like the ability to use two filters at once, in series or parallel.

That would’we been the only poly synth you would ever need!!👍

really loved these patches. a lot of videos focus on the gritty nasty sounds this thing makes. but you had lots of nice smooth sounds!!

Thanks a lot! I tried to focus on organic, playable sounds. In the second video, though, threre are some more dark/complex patches.

Great demo and great playing! And very very nice to finally watch a video of the Pro 3 without any never ending sequences! I have ordered this synth and hope it will arrive next week :-)

Thank you - yes, I tried to concentrate on playable sounds. In my view, sequencers and "paraphony" can be fun and interesting (I have included a couple of paraphonic patches), but not as much as pure sound design, finalized to expressive playing.

I will... but I'd like to optimize the patches, buiding several others, etc. - and at the moment, I have millions other things. It will take a while.

Thank you! After a long hiatus, I recently resume programming the Pro 3 a little bit. I would like to reach an entire bank's worth of sounds, organized and optimized, then offer them for sale or download. Fact is, I'm submerged by other commitments and deadlines, so it will take some time.

Thanks for your interest! At the moment, I am working on more sounds, using some more advanced synthesis techniques. Once I have assembled and organized a whole bank, I may offer it for sale or download.

really like this vid, great sounds and playing. I wasn’t watching your hands, wondering, how are you finding the feedback? Controllable, or does it too quickly get out of control?

    • @carlomezz
      @carlomezz  Před 3 lety

I find the Tuned Feedback being absolutely progressive and controllable via modulations, etc. Like any other saturation circuit, it gets nastier as you feed louder or more dissonant stuff to it, but it's not difficult to find the sweet spot. I find the Distortion parameter a bit less useful, but the Tuned Feedback is one of the best assets of the Pro 3.
