So my favorite interpretation of this song is that it is from Sleep's perspective and the music video is the aftermath of the events that take place in the song Nazareth. It'll make a lot more sense when you get to that song.

I saw someone say the record studio swapped the video, it was supposed to be for Nazareth - after listening to Nazareth I can see this as more of the video for that song than this one.

Very much the same. I have been trying to get reaction channels to see this band since. Obviously, it was with little affect until the Summoning happened.
“Eyes of the predator” has to do with Vore, in Vorarephilia theres “predators” and “prey”. He mentions Prey in the song also.

This was the song that made me fall in love with ST. At a low point in my life, I played this on repeat for like 3 hours and cried my stupid eyes out. It hits differently depending on your mood for sure. If you play this video on mute, and listen to Nazareth, it lines up perfectly. Great job guys!!!

I was pretty certain back when I first heard this song but after Vore came out there’s really no way it’s a misinterpretation…
Vessel is a man with a “unique taste”
Vorarephilia (shortened to Vore) is a BDSM paraphernalia (sexual fetish) either as a dominant vore who have intense sexually based fantasies of wanting to literally physically consume their partner during sexy time or submissive vore who have intense sexually based fantasies of wanting to literally BE physically consumed by their partner during sexy time… so yes, in its general sense it’s basically sexual cannibalism, however due to barriers like how ingesting an entire human is not very realistic, as well there being issues with the legality of it all even if it’s a fully consensual act, vore fantasies can’t be acted upon, are very rarely openly discussed, and rather these desires are quenched through fantasy literature and illustrations, and through deferring into primal fetish/kink behaviors.
So for the chorus lyrics

Is Vessel essentially saying:

Even other parts of the song tie into vore like talking about her looking at him with “eyes of a predator”

That’s why the mood of the song, how Vessel is very breathy & moaning, is all very sensual and yes, why there’s a very heart beat rhythm to the drums.

Everything is on point. The vocals, the instrumentation, that synth arp that repeats throughout and keeps everything locked together and possibly some of II's best drumming. So good.

This song and the way the you were are written as transition songs between the eps and sundowning. It was giving people an idea of the direction they were heading and what people could expect.

@@ToastiestWaffle I can definitely understand why. I really feel like they made this album to draw in the crowd for sure and I liked Eden better first but Tomb is great. Not sure if you've had a chance to listen to it yet but I would suggest hypnosis, descending, and high water.

On top of Nazareth being the subject for this video, I do want to point out that the outro portion of Jaws (around 5 min~ mark) matches the chord progression of the melodic portion of Gods. ^^ There are SO MANY internal callbacks of this band. It's amazing.

When he sings the line "I'm not here to be the savior you long for", the start of the line "I'm not" has always sounded like "NomNom" to me, which is especially funny with the title, told a couple friends the same and now they can't un-hear it. 🤣Still adore the song, they just don't miss, especially Vessel and the things he can do with his voice and the way he writes lyrics. I love the new album, don't get me wrong, but Jaws, Levitate, Hypnosis, Descending, Dark Signs, Higher, Missing Limbs, Drag me under, Nazareth...omg...I'd have to name them all. They are the ones that hooked me. ❤

The song is ridiculously good. He knows how to grab you and drag you in with the lyrics. Not to mention that voice 🤤 He could sing the phone book and I wouldn’t be able to turn away 😂 The lines “and I’m not here to be the saviour you long for Only the one you don’t” makes my brain go nuts for some reason. It has latched onto those lines and won’t let go. Between that and the chorus I’m hooked to this song. Going to the next song kind of hurts. It’s definitely an infinite repeat for me.
I can respect that some people arent into sleep token but i most definitely dont understand why they arent. Sleep tokens music makes me feel so much, just in one song you can feel so many emotions.
I adore this song! They played Jaws on the US 22 tour on some stops and I got lucky - singing along to that is one of my all time favorite show moments.
the ostinato that repeats through this makes a return in the start of the song High Water off of This Place Will Be Your Tomb, if you're listening closely. thematically, these two songs tie together very very closely, with this being the start of the relationship and High Water being the end. if you had to condense the album trilogy into 2 songs, these are it, imo.
I definitely recommend either giving this song a repeat listen right before going into High Water, or listening to the two back-to-back when you're done.
Jesus! II’s ghost note groove is beyond SICK!
My theory is that sleep is a fallen angel like lucifer and vessel his human counterpart - Adam. Those two ladies are the representations of Eve and Lilith.
They say as above so below and the pair Adam-Eve are a mirror of Lucifer-Lilith in the other dimension.
This video solidified this theory for me with the two girls that present as opposites. Throughout the discography, vessel also sings about that someone that he lost, mistakes he made, how he is either descending or ascending and of course, how he wants to go back to eden.
The same regrets can be seen as the regrets that Adam/Lucifer has.
This video and the Fall for Me (tomb) video really match this theory quite nicely.

I think thats interesting because throughout the whole story prior to that line, he was into the vore and being bitten and all that. then in that song its the turning point of the story, taking back his old life. now he's got a "normal" response to being bitten instead of one of pleasure

Dude, that repetitive synth just carries the whole thing so well. It always ends up sounding like ambulance sirens by the end in my brain.

Hi Eric and Kyle. Long time listener, first time caller here. Ryker Road is one of the best CZcams reaction channels out there. I have been enjoying all of your Sleep Token reactions throughout 2023 and into this year. You are doing a fabulous job!
I wanted to comment on some of the things you mentioned in this reaction.
This has to be the video for 'Nazareth', the second track on the 'Two' EP. The similarity between the lyrics and the story of this video are simply too obvious to ignore. I am not sure how this ended up being released as the video for 'Jaws' instead (edit: oops, should have read some of the comments below).
I believe at one point an 'Three' EP was intended to be released in 2018, featuring 'Jaws', 'The Way You Were' and 'Blood Sport', however this obviously never happened. 'The Way That You Were' was released as a single instead.
I believe the plea in this song to... "show me want you've lost... show me what wounds you've got..." is answered in 'The Way That You Were.'
Like Eric, I believe the ending in this song is intended to sound like a beating heart. 'Jaws' is unique in that it's the only Sleep Token song Vessel has explained some of its meaning (in a Kerrang! magazine interview). He says: "Our jaws are the tools we have to rend apart. They show our concealed aggression, and take something once hidden and burst it apart. You don’t know someone until you have seen them destroy something. Jaws is an exploration of the frustration which accompanies the sense that someone close to you is hiding their true self.”
My interpretation of this song is the person hiding their true self is Vessel, and the plea was made to him by his lover during their relationship, which has now ended due to her passing.
I know you have a schedule of Sleep Token's songs to react to, but missing ' The Way That You Were' will leave you with a missing part of the jigsaw. Also the video, which features Vessel and is difficult to comprehend without seeing it yourselves.

Through a lot of their songs I have noticed they have that "boom clap, boom boom clap" beat that is most prominent in rain. Not sure what that beat would be called but that's how my brain thinks of it
When the drop hit, it feels like sudden heavy rain started pouring to me. Very uncalled for and very much aprreciated.
I think alot of people forget vessel is called vessel for a reason and some songs are supposed to be sleep speaking through vessel. Not saying i know for sure that this is one of those songs but something to keep in mind when listening to ST.

From my understanding, and fellow Worshippers correct me if I was misinformed, the girl with the piercings (whose also in the video for "The Way That You Were" ((also a fucking great song))) is Vessel's ex.
The video is deff' more artsy though and could be interpreted in different ways. I like to think of it as a smexy but toxic poly relation ship between three people that ended very badly. I saw Vessel as the cockroach (CC winged insect) almost like a voyeur too.

Jaws is such an awesome song! When you guys were discussing who all was involved in the music video my brain saw that there were potentially 3 people there. I see it as Sleep and Eden were in the bed, but then the cockroach was Vessel. Could be reading too much into it, but in Vessel's lyrics he has referred to himself as an insect of sorts like in Take me Back to Eden "I'm a winged insect you're a funeral pyre". Idk if it makes sense at all and how it plays into the grand scheme of things, but that was my interpretation of the characters represented in the music video. Great video guys! can't wait to see you get into Tomb!

The 2 girls in the video could mean this girl has 2 personalities, the one who vessel loves and the one who vessel hates, and looks to me that the negative side of this woman is taking over ( guns and blood ), we know how it ends.
