Restoration Old Caucasian Qama Dagger

- Hello folks! Today, I'm restoring the Caucasian Qama dagger. I exchanged it for some of my old things. The dagger has an interesting stamp, I have never seen such a thing before. The dagger does not look like a Georgian dagger one and the more so, it was not possible to find out, if any of you know, please leave a comment. Thank you in advance, but I'm starting the restoration!
Initially, I used a rust remover liquid to begin with, then washed and dried. Sanding of the blade began with sandpaper 120 to 1200. All the dirt and rust was removed at the end with a soft brush and a solvent at low speed. Polishing is not about me, so we move on to the handle.
The handle for the dagger was made of beech (there is no dry buffalo horn physically!!!). But I spoiled the first blank and started the second one. I have already chosen walnut wood. Rivets "nails" for the handle, made of ordinary nuts and an iron pin.
I also started to make a rivet with a beautiful head in the Caucasian style, but it broke (the soldering could not withstand the blows when riveting) and I had to use a brass rivet with a hole in which I placed an aluminum rivet with a smaller diameter and riveted everything together, later applied the decor to the rivet.
The scabbard was made of wood, covered with natural thin leather. The tip was made of a sheet of brass and the tip for the scabbard was made of a brass pin and an iron nut (pre-processed in the same way as for the rivets of the handle).
The suspension was made of steel, it also did not work out the first time, apparently it was not steel, but stainless steel may be. Therefore, in the end, everything turned out fine. I did a final review and a short test of qama dagger. It was very interesting whether the handle would withstand the blows. Everything went well. Thank you for your attention and good luck to you!

Приветствую! Да в этом я убедился уже точно. Каждый клинок ведет себя по своему. Бебут все покусать хотел и получилось раза 3, этот не разу, но зато противился, мама не горюй. Но в итоге сейчас он успокоился, лежит в ножнах в шкафу.

Завораживающий процесс реставрации! Судя по тому что не все получалось сразу видно что кинжал с характером! Жаль что мы не знаем историю этого кинжала и его хозяина который им владел. А так же мастера сделавшего его.
Привет! Мне удалось найти перевод точнее подписчик помог, оно переводится так. " работа Малика" а этот мастер работал в Тифлисе в 19 век, это я узнал уже у своих.

Интересно, как предки не имея таких инструментов, клеев, припоев делали такие шикарные вещи (кинжалы, ножи, шашки, сабли и т.д.)? Наличие всего этого, не умоляет ваших золотых рук! Я в восторге!
Я всегда этот вопрос себе задаю! Как? А заклепки какие делали, лично у меня парочка из латуни. Ну шедевр, скажи мне повторить сейчас? нуу при наличии фрез и тд будет сложно. Благодарю за внимание
Судя по тому, что дол смещён в сторону с обеих сторон, смею предположить, что это дагестанский кинжал,во всяком случае, северокавказский. Именно на северном Кавказе дол смещён в сторону относительно линии рукояти. Клеймо, само по себе, напоминает вязь, так что, кузнец, скорее всего, был мусульманином, что также относит к северному Кавказу. Работа ваша, как всегда, прекрасна, смотрю с огромным удовольствием!

Шикарная работа! Из ржавого кинжала, получился вполне себе боевой кинжал, да ещё и с ножнами. С, моей точки зрения, петлю (подвес) надо вставлять наоборот, тогда кинжал будет висеть на поясе под наклоном. Ведь кавказские кинжалы, носили строго посредине , а не сбоку как шашку. А, с таким вариантом петли, он будет висеть практически вертикально, а это не совсем удобно....

Alex, soldering brass with tin-based soldering wire gives an extremely strong union, but doing the same with iron or steel is exceedingly weak. For that, you need to braze them with brass-based soldering wire (which gives you an union almost as strong as a welding. Almost). Of course, for that you need a propane-butane blowtorch (a wee bit more hot than a common soldering torch), but those are not exactly a difficult piece of gear to get.

@@ScrewsAndTools On that note, I can confirm that a small touch of acid (I use HCl, hidrocloric acid, a common household cleaning item in my country, dunno in yours but any acid will work, just a matter of how long it takes) will eat the galvanizing in no time, leaving you with a good surface for soldering.

Здравствуйте. Давно хотел узнать по теме кавказских кинжалов, какими существенными признаками отличается Кама от Ирбиса?
Добрый вечер. Кама это просто название холодного оружия на Кавказе, а Ирбис на сколько мне память не изменяет, видео современные ножи типа охотничье и складные.
@@ScrewsAndTools в том и дело, что внешне они практически одинаковые, грузинские Кама и дагестанские Ирбисы. Дело в том, что у меня дома два сувенирных кинжала, детский (30 см) двудольный грузинский Кама (скань, эмаль) и 43 см однодольный дагестанский Ирбис (резьба и чеканка по мельхиору, мусульманский арнамент на лезвии и ножнах). На ирбис у меня даже паспорт есть от изготовителя. Видя многообразие видов обоих клинков, возник вопрос о их существенных различиях, которых я не нахожу
Как интересно! Я вот признать о такой стороне не слыхал. Т.е. про название Ирбис. А вы можете показать мне в инстаграме или Фейсбуке?

Алекс привет ✌️ отлично получилось 👍 То, что не полируешь полностью "в ноль" это лучше. Сохраняется дух, дыхание времени на предмете. А среднюю заклёпку нужно было просверлить пластинку насквозь чуть больше самого стержня заклёпки и припаять чтобы кончик чуть-чуть торчал с лицевой стороны. Когда будешь бить с обратной стороны то площадка не отвалится и не расплющится. А с наружной сточить. А если на отверстии площадки сделать фаску с лицевой стороны то паять вообще не надо. Получится заклёпка. Шляпку можно обточить в полусферу или сточить заподлицо. А в целом всё отлично 👍👍👍 Удачи 🤝
