  • There are many ways to practice Morse Code Sending and Receiving.
    Long Island CW Club -
I have had the opportunity of being a member of the Long Island CW Club. I highly recommend joining. The learning experience and the club, community experience are uniquely and wonderfully combined there, and I am lucky to have that connection.
CW Academy / CW Ops -
I have had two great instructors in the beginner's and intermediate course who provided a path and opportunity to learn, experience, and improve in my cw / morse journey. I may have to repeat some coursework to stay on top of my game, but CW Academy is a good experience.

..I could not agree more...I frequently having CW playing in the background, while I'm doing other things. It used to amaze me how much I understood, but not concentrating on it...

I’m glad you left this comment. Thanks! I remember when 10 wpm was such a challenge, and sometimes if my concentration is off it still can be. Now I’m working my CW Academy programs at 26 wpm and I see the benefit of the different practice suggestions. We all have to just press on. cuagn de Bill K0WHW

Great advice! Not sure why I haven't setup qrp mobile in my truck even just for listening. This is inspiring and thank you for sharing your thoughts! 72/3 de N4AAJ

Thanks for stopping in and taking the time to comment. One day I was sitting in a parking lot waiting on my sister. The radio was there, I was there . . . I ended up hunting two POTA contact that day. It wasn't a lot but beat the heck out of just sitting there. 73 de K0WHW @Bill-HRT

I know my CW but I have trouble putting it into practice. I agree I over think, been with hams that ‘fluff’ their way through it, I also think that I’m disappointed that I’m not better and a lot just boils down to self confidence. Unfortunately access to someone who can help is very limited. There are crash courses which tend to be over subscribed and a zillion miles away. Great vid thanks 73.

I understand your frustration. I believe one of the fortunate side effects of the last couple of tough years is that more people including me are better versed in the use of zoom, internet conferencing and the like. I have had wonderful experience with the Long Island CW Club and CW Ops. There are many good classes and the opportunity to make like-minded friends. I’ve found many good contacts with the skcc group as well. I find the straight key focusing and therefore beneficial to my cw with that key and the paddles. I guess I make these videos to remind myself and anyone else who needs encouragement to keep trying what works. Thanks for taking time out to watch and comment. Share this with someone who might benefit. de Bill K0WHW

@@Bill-HRT The very points you make are the reasons why I subscribe and enjoy what you do. We are human after all and can all get carried away at watching vids showing how great everyone else is. Every day is a learning day irrespective of age. I must try to do more on this topic. Take care and keep the faith. 73 Mike

Good advice. When I feel like I'm getting frustrated with my copying skills, a 2 or 3 day break from my daily copying routine usually does it. I also noticed when I was sending, I was gripping the CW paddle like I was holding on to someone falling into the Grand Canyon....LOL. Also, I noticed that I was sending at 20wpm, which is fine, but I'm having an off day, I need to back it down a bit. Getting every letter processed is the goal, but I still have dropped letters even at slower speeds...but it's all about making progress and moving forward, right!

Hey, Kyle! I appreciate you stopping by. Thanks for sharing. I find that what seems to be one skill can often benefit from different perspectives and different ways of approach. Thanks for sharing yours.

Good video! I am a QRP CW fan. Now subbed...73!

Thanks for the sub! I definitely appreciate it. I hear people, some I know and like, putting down QRP. It's like fishing for a particular fish that doesn't bite easy . . . When you get it, you got something not a lot of people have. QRP takes a dedicated skill to understanding the limitations of your rig and antenna, and a good intuition about propagation. We are in the same club. See you out there! 73 de Bill
