Maybe because underpaid employees shouldn't be sent out to collect shopping carts that far away as any decent human being would put it back. Then again, having worked in retail for unfortunately like 5 - 6 years, many don't.
Our Safeway definitely sends people out once a day in the the neighborhood picking up abandoned carts. Carts are a huge expense that the city fines them for abandoned carts, so it less expensive to recover them them. And provides a great job for 2 young people
You can buy those two crates for cheap and just put them inside the grocery cart at the store.. still you will be putting your groceries in the bins and taking them home without spending the almost 300 bucks on the cart

Not to mention, you get a bigger cart than this one and itâs all for free. I just repair with JB weld and galvanized metal tags from Dollar Tree. My current one I just repaired. It's going on 4 years now. My second one I preemptively patched. When my current one can't handle the weight of everyday shopping I've move it to lighter tasks like taking out the trash and recycle. I've given a few single moms, older folks and homeless carts with extra bags sp they are set. And yes I give them reinforced carts.

Second of all, they donât have nearly as much room as the grocery cart the store provides you for FREE. Therefore if Iâm not being paid to use one, I donât want one.
