    I used to have this figure. Sold him when I got the Titans Return version (which I then also sold when I got the Kingdom version). Fun fact, this was the first ever Galvatron, since the original toy, made to depict the original character (other Galvatrons being either characters who shared the same name, such as the Beast Wars II character, or alternate universe counterparts such as Energon Galvatron).

    It’s insane how well the tank mode looks. I love that at a glance you wouldn’t think it’s Galvatron due to its colors. Like it looks like Megatron especially since that’s the “go-to” alt mode for him now. This thing is a weird mess.

    Dang, I guess I got really lucky! I got this new back when it came out, played with it a bunch, and it still has a place on my shelf, no pieces ever fall apart or shift, other than the rear backpack things. It's always been a TANK of a toy.

  • @RadSco

    Galvatron was supposed to be a Voyager, complete with a third mode that roughly resembled his G1 form. This Generations deluxe is what happens when a voyager class toy is forcefully downsized into, well, a deluxe.

    Many years ago, I found this toy in a local Rite Aid toy section. I used to check on it from time to time as a kid, to see if it was still there. Many years later, as an adult, I came back to the Rite Aid toy section, and found that in all those years, no one had actually bought it. The packaging was damaged and taped back together, and the price had dropped as well. I ended up giving this little one a home, and I never really had any issues with it.

    Great review of a very frustrating toy. Tip for the backpack that makes it a LITTLE more tolerable - If you flip up the panel at the bottom you'll have 2 pegs you can plug the treads onto. They don't hold on super well, but it's better than them flopping around all over the place. Keep up the good work!

    I just found this guy at a thrift store for like 5 bucks in a bag of other toys. He had all the parts minus the missile. Although the alt walking tank form isn't great, the regular TANK MODE IS AWESOME. I'm actually thinking about painting him up because the mold for the tank is really well done. I'm actually happy I got him. The joints on mine are solid...it's the arm cannon that just dangles though.

    This Galvatron is a great idea... in theory. Megatron is constantly a tank nowadays, so a Galvatron that is also a tank, make sense; more so when the original is already mobile artillery with treads. Since we now have a great G1 Galvatron, I would like to see them basically remake this Galvatron, at a voyager scale like he was originally planned as. (But as Animated Shockwave came out around the same time, they didn't want two gray voyager scale tanks sitting next to each other)

  • @tswizzlemcbizzle
    @tswizzlemcbizzle Před 7 dny

    Ironically, on my figure, it was the fusion cannon arm that came off. And that arm isn't on a ball joint, which means I must've had to really finagle it off when I was a kid. Only figured out how to reattach it recently.

Yeah I saw this guy and thought, "yeah a Galvatron figure, never had one of those before and its a Universe figure so it must be good!" Glad I only paid like $7-10 dollars for him. Jeez, this level of floppiness and disassembly never happened to my copies of universe galvatron. I say "copies" because I got a takara repaint of him a few years ago. Yes I know I am insane.
    EDIT: also forgot to mention this but the little backpack flaps actually DO havesomething to plug into. there's small tabs on the bottom of the hinged panels that plug into a hole thing on both sides. You can also flip up the "tank legs" to give him his shoulder pylons, though they're jutting from his back which is inaccurate, it still looks good.

      Glad im not the only one who noticed the miss transformation of the backpack, and also agreed mine is generally sturdy as well mine the left arm ocassionally pops off but thats really only if im trying to transform him quickly and man-handling him like a f*ckwit

    • @Sleesus
      @Sleesus Před 2 lety

      @@TatsuChi The biggest issue I have with this figure is how back-heavy it is. If it's in a neutral stance on a shelf even the slightest breeze is gonna make it just topple over backwards unless you kinda mess around with it, at least on the ones I own.
      Seriously though, the head not clipping into place on the one in this video makes me wonder exactly what the heck happened. Is it a defect? did the pegs get warped or worn down somehow? Reminds me of how thrilling 30 Blitzwing had the shoulders that wouldn't clip in on a lot of copies, but a bit less widespread I guess. My copy of that Blitzwing figure unfortunately got both the shoulder defect AND the head exploding one, though I didn't realize it had that until like a good few years after I got it and the head began doing the split at a corner of it. Weirdly it stays together fine unless you actively pull it apart.

    The color swapping is such a weird aspect of this toy. It almost seems like the intent was for Galvatron to turn into a perfectly ordinary Earth tank... that is if it weren't for the bright orange laser barrel.
    Maybe that would have been disguised better if this figure had been larger, but at this scale and with that sci-fi barrel, he really should have been redesign as a futuristic cyber tank and kept more of his character defining purple visible.

  • @DragoonMS
    @DragoonMS Před 2 lety

    That he was a tank makes me wonder if maybe this was a concept for a Galvatron upgrade to the G2 Tank Megatron especially considering that the Classics Deluxe Megs was G2 Tank Megs, AND that I do recall that on a TFWiki article, Simon Furman was quoted as saying that had the Marvel G2 comics continued, Galvatron would've eventually returned...
    Not sure about the "GALV", but the "25" is definitely because at the time it came out, it was just in time for the 25th anniversary of The Transformers franchise...which kinda doesn't make sense considering that Galvy didn't pop up until 1986 (making that figure's release too late for the Movie's 20th anniversary in 2006, but also too early for the Movie's 25th anniversary in 2011). 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️
    Besides, a lot of the design concepts for the abandoned third mode went to Animated Shockwave's crane mode for his Longarm form. And yes, this figure absosmurfinlutely should've been a Voyager. How so? Even with JUST the Deluxe class Universe/Reveal the Shield Targetmaster Cyclonus and the Generations or Titans Return Scourge, the Titans Return Galvatron simply scales better and looks better. (Not counting Kingdom Galvy, cuz that's clearly meant to go with Kingdom Cyclonus & SS86-5 Scourge)

    I have a definite soft spot for this guy. He's too fragile and complex for the size but he's interesting. The thought of him clip clopping across the battlefield in feety-tank mode is adorable. With a bit of work and part transforming the turret so the barrel is on top of the rest you can get it looking a lot better too.

I get that we now have much improved detail and (sometimes) articulation, but the pay off is so many joints and points of movement that it's less a transformation and more of a jigsaw puzzle that just flops around, and random, janky extra bits that just hang off the back. I have this Galvatron, I tried transforming it once, got halfway through, and gave up. He's been a tank on my shelf for 14 years.

    I just dug mine out. After along time i got the new legacy Galvatron. Anyway, this little guy kept breaking apart as i turned him from tank to robot! 😂 I don't remember it being this bad.

    I got this figure as a kid and couldn’t even transform him once, and I still can’t because he’s missing pieces and limbs

    I have a similar issue. I’ve got a really shitty ROTF ironhide, so I just leave it in that awesome truck mode.

    I think this swapped budgets with the obviously oversized Hot House/Powerglide. That should've been deluxe and this needed the ultra budget. Universe Galvatron LOOKS nice but obviously they cheaped out on him.

    OK, so I never had this toy, and I know that it’s bad. But when you set it down at the very beginning and the arm fell off, all I could do was audibly say the word “oh.“
