- I'm sharing what I have learned so far about different closures for books that don't lay flat and need some kind of cinching...from seam binding, ribbon or elastic tied around the whole book to ribbon or leather strings threaded through holes of front and back cover to button closure with either a ribbon or a rubber band closure or a Velcro (or even magnetic closure).
Check out my other videos sharing finished junk journals or sharing some tips in the journal making process. Thanks! - Jak na to + styl
Thank you for taking the time to film this video. It was very, VERY helpful!!
My pleasure. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I love this! Thank you for sharing all of this with me! Now I have new closures to try on my journals! I have to go back now and check out all the videos for the journals too!
xxDaniella
Daniella Hayes Thank you so much Daniella for watching and commenting and then looking at my other videos and commenting there, too! You're awesome (and sorry I am just replying now. I missed this comment).
Thank you! Very helpful.
Thanks! Great video!
Great video!!!
Very helpful, thank you.
This is exactly what I needed! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure. Thanks so much for commenting.
Great compilation--very helpful. New subscriber!
I like this. I need to learn these closures. LOL! I am not a sewer.. this is a big learning curve for me. TFS
Anne Williamson anneliesecreates My mom taught me NOT to sew (or iron)...lol...so this is a big learning curve for me. So that's why I started with closures that don't involve sewing. But the pamphlet stitch is very easy and I know you can do it if I can do it. Sea Lemon channel has great tutorials including on the pamphlet stitch. I have one also but the camera angle is not as good. Thanks for commenting :)
Crafty Come Lately yep did i say I was lazy too? LOL :)
This was very helpful and explained really well! Thank you for sharing these grest ideas and taking the time to make this great tutorial!
Excellent! TYS
Excited to have found this video. I'm always looking for new ideas on closures.
Very informative and helpful video. Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
tellhimthanku Thank you so much! I appreciate your sweet comment!
thank you so much for your very helpful video...I decided after the fact that I wanted some kind of tie so you gave me a couple of great options...hugs~Peggy
Yeah... I am glad. And update on the rubber band is a hair tie from Dollar Tree or another place since the rubber band will crack.
GREAT tips! Thanks so much for sharing this with us :) Melissa
Dollipop Productions My pleasure! It just came up in one of my comments with Joy (HapaChickCreative) and it was easier to do a video than to write it in words.
Thanks so much for sharing your creative closure ideas. You can expect rubber bands to dry and break...use a covered hairband instead...lasts much longer without drying out. I was referred to your site by Butter Bee Scraps.
My pleasure. And you're totally right about the rubber bands. I haven't thought about it then. I have switched to elastic band or string that I cut off what I need. And I do have hairbands to use, too but haven't used them yet. Thanks for the reminder. And thanks for letting me know that you came by way of Monique (Butter Bee Scraps). She is so amazing.
Such a wonderful overview! Thanks so much for sharing all this with us. This is going straight into my favorites playlist! TFS Big hugs, Kristina
CraftyPaws That's an honor and I appreciate the sweet comment. Makes me feel good :)
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing! :)
Jen Rey Thank you so much Jen!! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
I know Im kinda off topic but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Ezekiel Kieran flixportal :)
Great tips. Thanks! Linda
birdie2107 Thank you so much Linda :)
So glad I found this tutorial, I had no idea how to create the button and rubber band closure, thank you for sharing this ... :) New Subbie ..
+Fiona J Thank you so much. I got the idea mainly from Rachel (AKA Rachel's Jazzy Creations) and glad to share it and that it helped.
Great video, so many fab closure ideas!
Deborah Moore Thank you so much!!
You're very welcome Crafty Come Lately.
I have yet to create a journal/book (on the very long 'to do' list) but your journal videos are very inspiring.
I relate to the long "to do" list and I'm glad you're inspired and I hope you make one soon :)
I do intend to make a book of some sort - hopefully I'll get to it this year!
This was super helpful. Ty:)
Good job. Thanks for showing us some different closures. New subbie.
Thank you so much! And thanks for subscribing, too! I just subscribed back to your channel.
thanks for these awesome tips I appreciate it
Kimbo Kreations My pleasure. :) Thanks for watching and commenting :)
really loving your videos - Ruthie
Pople BackyardFarm Thank you very much!!
I like all your ideas ! But the word you were looking for on the button is called a shank! I like that idea a lot!
Ah! Thank you so much. I have such a vocabulary memory lapse when I'm on video...half due to me looking off camera at something else or thinking about the next thing and not focusing. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for putting all these good ideas in one video. Have you done videos on all of the junk journals shown in this video? We'd like to see them.
Janet Baker My pleasure. Some are mini albums and I didn't do a flip through because they are "old" (one year old or so) and some are obviously not done at all, just the cover. I really should go back and do a flip through of all my albums and I promise to do it very soon :)
Yay! Thank you for sharing this... beautiful journals!! You really have a nice collection going on there :-) I think I'm going to try the eyelet next instead of the "door knocker" or knobs I've seen, to keep it simple for now. Thinking of trying the Tim Holtz reinforcers that are just stickers but seal them well with glue - since I have those on hand... TFS xxAmy
HapaChickCreative (AmyJoy) Perefect. It's all what works best for you :) And my pleasure. I figured making the video was easier than typing or putting a few video links and telling you which minute to go to.
I hope you make more videos. No pressure of course. They are very helpful... some of the journals I didn't think I'd seen in your vids so maybe a peek at them? Hint hint...lol
Just got remided by Janet, too. Some are mini albums that I made before I made videos and it felt like cheating going back to film them but I will :)
Yes please do.. people on here share journals/art journals from past years so no way is it cheating - you created it :)
OK then it will be shown sometime soon :)
Thanks for sharing your ideas and tips on closures. Looks like you've been busy making journals. Maybe a wire cutter would make the paper clip cutting easier. Though I can see how your method would work if I didn't have a wire cutter :-) Have a good one, Laraine
lengbryce10 I do have one and didn't even think about it (maybe because it's so far away...lol). Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for sharing your great ideas for closing album :) I'm in love with the geographic paper you used in the last album. Do you think it is still possible to find the paper on the web shop? thanks again
Thank you so much! If it's the Trip journal with the map, it was either a vintage map I found online or from an atlas I bought at my local thrift store. You can do google image search for vintage maps and find one you like.
Thanks for sharing your closure techniques... Which cardstock is the one that has the old world compass?
How did you make the brownish reinforcements around the punched holes. Are they sold like this? Is there a punch for it? Thank you. Really appreciate your video.mTY
They come like that in white...Dollar Tree and other places here in the USA. But you probably could punch it on a whole sheet sticker by finding a small circle punch and the tiny hole punch.
+Crafty Come Lately Thank you for these great ideas. I've been scratching my head for an easy but secure idea for a friends travel prayer journal. For the last one with the button, could a piece of wire work instead of a paper clip? Thanks again. xo
Thanks for commenting and sorry it took me so long to reply. I think a wire would work just great. Just bend it like a u so it doesn't just slide out.
Crafty Come Lately Thank you so much. xxoo
Was looking forward to the tutorial…..the view was really too close up for comfortable viewing😔
