Different Closures for Junk Journals & Mini Albums

  • I'm sharing what I have learned so far about different closures for books that don't lay flat and need some kind of cinching...from seam binding, ribbon or elastic tied around the whole book to ribbon or leather strings threaded through holes of front and back cover to button closure with either a ribbon or a rubber band closure or a Velcro (or even magnetic closure).
    Check out my other videos sharing finished junk journals or sharing some tips in the journal making process. Thanks!

      Anne Williamson anneliesecreates My mom taught me NOT to sew (or iron)...lol...so this is a big learning curve for me. So that's why I started with closures that don't involve sewing. But the pamphlet stitch is very easy and I know you can do it if I can do it. Sea Lemon channel has great tutorials including on the pamphlet stitch. I have one also but the camera angle is not as good. Thanks for commenting :)

    Thanks so much for sharing your creative closure ideas. You can expect rubber bands to dry and break...use a covered hairband instead...lasts much longer without drying out. I was referred to your site by Butter Bee Scraps.

    • @CraftyComeLately
      @CraftyComeLately  Před 8 lety

      My pleasure. And you're totally right about the rubber bands. I haven't thought about it then. I have switched to elastic band or string that I cut off what I need. And I do have hairbands to use, too but haven't used them yet. Thanks for the reminder. And thanks for letting me know that you came by way of Monique (Butter Bee Scraps). She is so amazing.

      Janet Baker My pleasure. Some are mini albums and I didn't do a flip through because they are "old" (one year old or so) and some are obviously not done at all, just the cover. I really should go back and do a flip through of all my albums and I promise to do it very soon :)

  • @amyjoystudios
    @amyjoystudios Před 9 lety

    Yay! Thank you for sharing this... beautiful journals!! You really have a nice collection going on there :-) I think I'm going to try the eyelet next instead of the "door knocker" or knobs I've seen, to keep it simple for now. Thinking of trying the Tim Holtz reinforcers that are just stickers but seal them well with glue - since I have those on hand... TFS xxAmy

    Thanks for sharing your ideas and tips on closures. Looks like you've been busy making journals. Maybe a wire cutter would make the paper clip cutting easier. Though I can see how your method would work if I didn't have a wire cutter :-) Have a good one, Laraine

      Thank you so much! If it's the Trip journal with the map, it was either a vintage map I found online or from an atlas I bought at my local thrift store. You can do google image search for vintage maps and find one you like.

    How did you make the brownish reinforcements around the punched holes. Are they sold like this? Is there a punch for it? Thank you. Really appreciate your video.mTY

    • @CraftyComeLately
      @CraftyComeLately  Před 7 lety

      They come like that in white...Dollar Tree and other places here in the USA. But you probably could punch it on a whole sheet sticker by finding a small circle punch and the tiny hole punch.

    +Crafty Come Lately Thank you for these great ideas. I've been scratching my head for an easy but secure idea for a friends travel prayer journal. For the last one with the button, could a piece of wire work instead of a paper clip? Thanks again. xo
