2020 RAM 1500 Eco Diesel | Getting Rammed

- We do a quick review on the new Ram 1500 Eco Diesel at the launch event. We discuss topics with the designer of the new engine and all the pros and cons of driving it on and off road. With improved towing capacity, power and fuel economy it makes sense for those who use the truck for utility purposes. The big question is whether or not those married to Ford F150, Chevy Silverado or Toyota Tundra would jump ship?

Leave it to these bois to make a otherwise generic press event fun to watch. I now cant unsee the Goose standing on that boat seeping testosterone to the Titanic soundtrack. This was the high point of my day!
Car reviewers hate him. See how one man is disrupting the million a year youtube car review industry with this one simple trick! (It's easy!)
👍 nice Ad 😆
He is a car reviewer though.
Cracked me up when he threw shade on the Silverado cylinder deactivation blown engine issue at 10 mins in and how the Chevy guys will just go buy another Silverado when Chevy denies their warranty because you're 60,001 miles into it.
Funny because it's so true. Ask me how I know.
Why would you buy another
@@harveymorgan1749 I didn't. Learned my lesson with my first Silverado. But I see lots of people that keeping going back for more.
@@kimokahikolekalihi what u replace it wit
@@harveymorgan1749 older 94 Toyota 4x4 22re. Back to my roots. Cheap, deadly reliable, easy to work on, go anywhere. Just won't tow much but I don't tow anything. Just need a farm truck. Sold the 07 new body style ltz Silverado. I miss it. It was very nice, super roomy, quiet, easy to drive but it was like Chevy forgot what quality control was. So many issues with that generation.
I’m sorry man
Italian reliability should make a very unique truck ownership experience.
Maybe. But when it comes to Diesel engines, Italian industry is actually an established player. I don't think that would be the case, if their engines were junk.
@@dsugioaga The JTD engines are damn near indestructible.
Fucker do you even have any experience with Italian cars? Here in Europe we drive fiats, alfas, lancia and many more on a daily basis. FIAT is a huge brand and their diesel engines are beasts. I've driven an alfa 159 2.4 jtd for over 300k miles and no problems, try that with a BMW or audi and even a Toyota diesel, which is very unreliable.
FX Nice Alfa, the styling on the 159 is badass.
@@RK1FX FCA in the U.S. models is not proving out well at all and the dealers are not backing customers for repairs either. The list of issues across models is large. One example from researching vans, they constantly blow headlights, the rear doors routinely chop off the wiring harness just from opening and closing, the transmission design breaks down and FCA doesn't stand behind the product. We're talking headlights that fail every oil change when I have cars ten years old with the original bulbs in them. Engine issues, transmission issues, the dealers turn their back.
Good to know you can fit your water bottle in the truck bed. Finally someone gives urbanites the storage space we need.
I usually have the dealership install a roof rack for that purpose, but it's fine in the bed I guess.
"Getting Rammed"
Mr goose, you sir have some of the best titles I've ever seen in the car community here in youtube. That goes hand and hand with your amazing production quality.
Also goes hand in hand with some of the other frequent jokes on the channel. ;)
Picture this, driving in the sticks, pull up behind a raised Ram with a 12" smokestack centered in the bed spewing smoke like a coal factory, on the bumper says "Dodge the father, RAM the daughter", a truck I will never forget.
Hey man I just wanted to say how much I love your videos, and the time you put into them. You inspired me to start my own channel. You’ve got a unique style!
This is yet again a great video
I love the way how you in depth with each vehicle in terms of design, engineering, and manufacturing
And you just go straight to the point
Keep it up Mr. Geese👏👏👏
I absolutely love the opening track but even more so the shot of you doing the Titan re-enactment on the soundtrack of Celine Dion. That is just... you've outdone yourself. Plus, the bromance with Jack is just amazing.
"Oh Jack, your Ram 1500 Eco Diesels tailpipe is so girthy and long", muttered Mr.Geese as he caressed the rear side body panel.
"Just wait until we get it all wet and dirty", Jack said as he opened his Rams tailgate. "Oh!", moaned Jack as he reached in the trucks bed, "Mr.Goose, I need you to reach with your fingers and your hands deep inside the trucks bed to get the fishing rods...I can't reach".
"Don't get all hot and flustered Jack", said Mr.Geese with a wink. "After transitioning from male, to female, and back, it seems that I've gained a few inches...heh heh".
Mr.Goose sauntered over to the rear of Jack's pickup, and reached his hands deep inside....
go on...
You do realize we have issues ? Right.
I know I am pretty randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream new series online ?
@Ronin Omari Flixportal =)
@Leandro Tristian Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it !!
The best car review channel on CZcams - I thought that no one could ever make me watch reviews of vehicles I would never buy (trucks, SUVs or muscle cars), but you sir have done the impossible. Excellent content, witty discourse, fantastic production. Thanks for making this and keep it coming!
P.S. The intro music is seriously great (Tim Hirst - Up Again, for those interested).
Absolutely pulled off that hat LOL. amazing work! Time and time again. Thank you guys!!!
I can't get over how lovely your intro montages are coming out! You talked about wanting to bump up the quality of the exterior shots and it really shows.
Sold my sports car a month ago for practicality reasons and now I'm a truck guy. Geese has a video for nearly everyone that likes 4 wheels. Thumbs up dude.
Wife: looks at bluetooth title when we get into the car "um.... what is that?"
Me: "oh yeah it's a car video let me show you. Remember you like this guy we saw his Mazda 3 video before we bought yours."
Wife: "you know.... never mind...."
I really like the back and forth in these reviews. It's nice that you two don't 100% agree on everything and you counter, but build off of each other's points. If this engine proves to have good longevity, it seems like a really great option in the truck segment if you actually need a truck.
I will say it again, the level of your intros is off the charts! Well done again.
Savagegeese is just getting better and better.... and better. Thanks for these videos, they are for sure part of the highlights of any week.
Absolutely my favorite channel. Fantastic reviews!
8:07 This scene is everything, my life is now complete... I can die content
They trolled the whole event.
"We towed a boat with it and 'you' looked exotic."
When u pull up on acid n ur homie says wanna fly?
Never Let Go
Setting the bar so high, fellas. I laughed, I cried... powerful stuff, and equitably nerdy. 👊🏿🧔🏾
Where did you get the black emojis? My phone has decided I'm either Asian or a Simpson character. 🤷 Also, I can only express confusion as a woman, apparently.
I like how both of you guys give different perspectives. Love the intro too lmao.
You guys have an amazing channel, consistent improvement and love the addition of comedy!
Of the few channels I watched that covered this event, your chat with the chief engineer was by far the most interesting. Thank you!
Prax yes, and it’s nice to put an intelligent face on the Italian aspect of FCA Ram, which is often criticized.
Warning - If you live where it gets below 0f or -18c do not buy a Ram with Air Ride. The air ride system does not deal well with cold weather. When I traded my '15 Ram Limited this summer, I believe I was on compressor 5 or 6 and three of the four air bags had had to be replaced, the last two out of warranty. In warm weather the air ride is great but it does not do cold weather well at all.
Yup. My mother has a 2012 grand cherokee and all 4 bags were replaced at 70k miles, at 300$ each. The compressor is still original though.
@@flagovhate She was lucky on the cost of the air bags, I paid $1100-$1300 (Can$) to have a bag replaced on my Ram 1500
@@DougsMessyGarage that's crazy. But i also listed USD prices. I'm in Canada too, price from Ontario dealer was 500$ each bag, but my father ended up getting some in Quebec for 450$ CDN each. He replaced them himself so saved himself probably atleast 1000$ in labor. Luckily that's the only issue we've had with this FCA product, it has 170k km on it, and has been through plenty of -40c winters lol
@@flagovhate Other than the air ride, I really liked the '15 Ram. In fact, when I traded it in, I traded it on a '19 Ram. The new truck definitely did not have the air ride system though.
@@DougsMessyGarage i have a 2017 Ram quad cab express and i don't think I'll be getting another ram. My truck only has 42k on it, and it's already had a front strut replaced, from tie rod and AC system empties itself every winter. I also have occasional transmission issues where it won't shift properly or won't go into gear. Also the rotors are almost finished and thats 42k of highway driving. I like the truck, but i can't imagine owning it long term, it's only a lease. Only reason I'll consider another ram is because of how well my local dealer treated me. So we'll see, lease is up in a few weeks.
I've look at every video review about the 3rd gen Eco-diesel I could find. This really is the most informative that is out there. I have heard that 80% of the engine parts were new but now I know what and why. I currently own a 2014 Grand Cherokee 1st gen Eco-diesel with 120k mile and I still love it. This engine sound more bullet proof in a better package, depending on what the new Grand Cherokee standard length looks like, the Ram 1500 may be my next daily driver. I just have one issue with your opinion of brand loyalty. I have owned and worked on every top pickup brand out there and I have found that; if you get a good truck to start, regardless of manufacturer, it will always be a good truck. Everybody can make a lemon just hope you don't buy one. Hey Savagegeese,,,,, keep it up.
Love your work, truly unique. In 10 years THIS will be the norm of motoring journalism. I wish more than FCA knew what is good for them. sorry English is my 4th. language
Mark, glad your schedule is allowing you to continue making excellent videos. Jack is turning out to be a fine padawan apprentice. Keep it going. 👍
i mean the production level on this channel is the best, usually i don't comment but i cant stop my self butt to comment and opening of this video was amazing & bro ur witty script best combo.
I like the song at the beginning
You know the name? I want it
Glad I'm not the only one!
tim hirst - up again
Mindaugas Vysniauskas thx man.
Man your show is so amazing, music, camera work,...outstanding....
Nothing on this truck says to me, "Long term reliability"
You can say that about every new car today.
... How so? What's not reliable about it? Sure there could be some failures, it's an engine w/hundreds of parts, but others can go on a long time w/proper mx.
@Alfredo Tirado just roll the negative equity into another new car! What could go wrong???
Then get a shitty 20 year old corolla like your god Scotty Kilmer
@@iliovecaRS Yeah, because all the 20yo RAMs are on the junkyard now
LOL. The bottle of water in the tray.
Great video once again, love the water bottle tests. Keep it up. Thank you.
The RAM does not have independent rear suspension. It's coil sprung ,but still a solid rear.
yah, I was like "well this is news if that was true lol"
Thats correct I think we have been throwing around semi independent before we talked about it. And we were also talking about the Pacifica too much.
@@savagegeese Love the channel so far. Great mix of technical data and humor.
I can’t stop watching allll your videos! I swear I’ve been on CZcams for days! Amazing stuff I can’t repeat myself enough
Long term reliability? ..... rain on the parade.
Happy to see you guys make it up to the Iron Range! Nice review, the truck looks good.
Very good video probably the best summary of this truck but also the mind set of truck guys no matter what most are brand loyal
im not surprised that they didn't make Reliability a priority... instead priority to serviceability....... More money for Ram dealerships and rental car companies!!
I'm not surprised. With all the restrictions that they are under, it'll be hard to make it more reliable too. Emissions is the main restriction. And what's good for emissions isn't necessarily going to help with reliability
Serviceability is a design target in the heavy trucking industry as well.
Ultra low friction parts = burning oil.
@@zephxiii serviceability is designed into every single Honda, Toyota, Subaru etc....it should be automatic in design
@@SantanKGhey1234 Let's not nitpick words here. They vastly improved the serviceability of parts
Hope you and Jack's adoption process is going smooth! You guys are so brave
Father and son going on a fishing trip, how sweet!
That intro track is amazing.
Nice hat! What difference price of motors between hemi and eco diesel ? Does v tech come on eco diesel?
Damn this savage, his intros and endings have been fire.
Did they have a 2 for 1 sale at your guy's eyeglasses store?
This channels reviews are next level.
Awesome intro!!!!! Well done!
That intro song is legit awesome!
Towing the boat sequence - comedy gold! 👍
so FCA made a delicate engine that both increase power and fits regulations.
"Squeeze as much power out of it as possible! Fuck the reliability, strain those parts to their absolute max, just make sure they'll last as long as the powertrain warranty!"
Up Again by Tim Hirst....and the car/truck seems pretty good too
I'm a nerd and I love it at these engine reveals the components on display and Savage's biceps flexing as he holds the intake. Beefy
The CD-ROM holder at 0:32 holds the code for a stage 5 tune. Check it out.
I've always been an ecodiesel but I could never afford an used one if I could find one! But I'm really excited for the I6 duramax! Always a huge fan of I6 layouts!
I enjoy the water bottle toss in the opening test. Should do it more in your reviews
Fix it again Tony, I would need to have my head examined to buy one of these
Guy I work with has a 2012 dodge 5.7 loaded up truck that has 290 k . Not one issue . My wife had a 2015 SHO with 180 k . Not an issue. It’s the luck of the draw.
The questions you asked so good
Two videos in the same week, yes !!
I’m so glad the bed of the truck passed the water bottle test. Lol
My wife doesn't understand why I enjoy watching car review by a 'geese guy'. Needless to say, I made her sleep on the couch.
My wife thinks Mark is creepy and boring, well she married me so dont know why that is a problem all the sudden?
You guys make a good team. Dry humor like true sons of the midwest.
You know midwest humour when you hear it.
I was gonna say Titanic just starting the video and baaam , mark got me with the skit! Dude is hilarious 😂😂
Interesting! This is like a music video! Keep them coming.
First!
The quality of your 4K videos cease to amaze me SG. Watching full screen on the 65" 4k TV and this catches my eye from 6:33 to 6:38 LOL.
Dang I missed the release of this, looks like you guys got to check out the Gilbert OHV park. What a fun place to be! I hope you guys got to see some fun stuff and not just the core roads.
the intros alone to Savagegeese vids are a piece of art alone
Ram Kills it with the interior. I am a Ford guy but if someone purchased a Ram for me I'd take it. GREAT VIDEO GUYS. THANKS!!!!!
@guy proulx wow you really put an effort to troll as many comments as possible. Why don't you direct that time and energy in attracting a female so that you can actually build a life instead of rotting away in your basement.
In another life you probably did soundtracks for movies. The music for these reviews is so good.
This whole episode was a fever dream
How long is that warranty on the engine?
You should do now an interview with a few ram ecodiesel owner to compare how the engine stack again the old one,
The cummins engine was the only reliable part of a ram diesel lol.
Yes
not true!!! you had a reliable schedule at the dealership for work and the fuel in it are both reliable as hell...
Did not interrupt the interviewee. 10/10 lost art. Let em ramble, clip it later if you need to. ♥️
6:33 fly is like “ Don’t mind me, nothing to see here” XD
👍👍for the opening
Love the song
I was wondering if you would get to review this beast. Im honestly intersted in one of these. Especially cus u can get a bare bones truck with thatbdiesel engine as an add on! Though if i can afford it, that rebel looks sweet !
Now that Nissan as Cummins are splitting ties they should now put the 5.0 turbo diesel in the 1500 (but maybe a bit detuned to meet regulations)
i think ram is hands down best looking truck inside out - interested to see how is that diesel gonna do in long term - last gen had alot of problems
Too bad we can't bring back the old 2-stroke Detroit Diesels to fix all those reliability issues.... Sure, they made a lot of smoke, but if it could run a bus or a semi for 600000 miles, it'd probably last twice as long in an under-stressed application like a RAM, here it'd be hauling around a quarter of a bus in weight only :P
Good view, good car, good song, good interview with an engineer. This VDO make me want to go to jungle.
But I didn't see the practicality of RAM in this VDO.
Excellent intro
8:10 just when i thought this would be a serious take on a review, lmaoooo
Never heard a word from the chief engineer about a goal of improving reliability. NOT A WORD.
But will the cam gear spin on the camshaft and grenade the engine still? That was a neat feature of the previous ecodiesel. Super. Maybe now the engine will last long enough to have super-expensive emissions related failures.
The only thing that really matters is what kind of warranty will it come with. It will be in the shop often.
Hopefully turd gen improves
I liked the intro and tunes! I understand skinny jeans arent for everyone though.
Your cinematics are getting in the way of my truck review.. and aren't you too siblings for a Ennis/Jack reference?!?
I wonder, coated piston rings?
Haha that titanic secene ..
Still waiting for that Chevy Trax and Ford Ecosport comparison video, as well as the Mitsubishi Mirage with a stuck-on-back-up-camera review too!
I second this too. Those modern p.o.s's all need a dedicated 'cinematic' video on.
@@smilepermile888 Good 300k subscriber special idea perhaps.
Very entertaining, and nice review. The Ram interior gets kudos, but reliability, price and overall exterior looks are more important to me. FCA is aggressive with RAM discounts (a big plus - paying north of $50k for a new truck is hard to justify), and no real issue with exterior looks (other than too much chrome badging on some models). Reliability is anyone's guess, but history for any new or relatively new model usually equates to recalls or production redesigns down the road. FCA puts a lot of cutting edge engineering into their cars and trucks, but the "trade off" usually comes in the form of recalls and reliability. Overall though, leaving aside concerns about reliability-very nice truck.
50k an amazing deal now days these things are selling 70k plus
havent seen these videos in some time . Now who is this new sidekick guy ? wheres the other guy ? the sarcastic mechanic looking dude . he was the Best !
Wonder if anyone has ever counted the total number of parts in say a 1970 c 10 vs the total number of parts in a 2019 truck or any brand for that matter. Got to be double the amount of parts ,right?
My family has been Chevy for 30 years. Everyone will be leaving Chevy vehicles with in the next 3 years. Personally I’ll be getting a Ram Rebel black appearance group with ram boxes. It will work perfectly in Pennsylvania for the constant changing weather.
There are some of us who are Truck guys and even though I drive a Chevy Avalanche I watch these truck reviews to see what truck meets my needs with good reliability for my next truck. It may be a Ram.....
Is there a light attached to the engine? 2:40
Yes. There are a few. They use one in a later scene.
speciale? italian reference or typo?
This is cool and all, but when can we get a 4th gen Dakota, with diesel option no less?
Keep it up, fellas!
