Dear Jennifer, Thank you for your kind comments which are very much appreciated. It wasn't me who did your unicorn but it's great that you're still pleased with it! Illumination is wonderful in that it lights up (sorry!) a piece.

The flesh side is very smooth, and doesn't really have the 'tooth' for good and crisp writing. However the flesh side is good for painting. Thank you for your kind words and I'm pleased that you found the Calligraphy Clip useful.

You have beautiful things in your possession and beautiful writing.

Thank you Patricia. With regard to future videos, may I suggest that a local Art School would be delighted to assist with the technical filmmaking aspects in exchange for the opportunity to learn from your expertise about vellum and parchment. I'd certainly have jumped at the chance when I was at Art School.

Hello! Oh gosh, really enjoyed your video. You remind me of someone I knew a while back. She was a magnificent illuminator and her penmanship was exquisite. I still have my indenture and also the poem about a unicorn. Its the one that starts with ' The ( the T has trefoil leaves and the letter is done in lapis with white lead decoration as are the acanthus leaves and background is gilded in leaf) unicorn and I are one : he also pauses in amaze before a maidens magic gaze'.
I really enjoyed your presentation. Makes me appreciate the stuff I have
ps, just looking at the vellum it looks hairside, it looks like its been shaven on closer look. Also, its yellowing. Should I get it reframed? I don't want it to perish.

What is your view on permagenata? I have used it and it is very nice to use.

I thought you're supposed to write on the flesh side, because it looked more "suitable" for writing, only to find it wrong here. Thank you for this helpful video, if it hadn't for you I would've had absolutely no idea about how to use vellum correctly.

Celebrating the life of the animal seems like a nice way to look at it, but unfortunately it was probably a miserable 'life' in a factory farm. The leather industry is not a small industry, it is massive & contributes a great deal to animal cruelty. That said, I'm not here to judge you & none of us are perfect.
I myself am vegetarian & yet I still buy suede shoes, but I avoid it in all other products.
The way I like to look at it is, I'm trying my best not to fund animal cruelty by supporting meat consumption or leather goods, but I'm not 100% perfect, I made my effort for over 25 years.
I know it's wrong to buy those shoes, but I still do it because I like them.
As I said, this is not a judgement on you, just an observation on the "way to look at it". I'm not an activist, & I think humans should be able to eat meat & use animal by-products. I just don't like the factory farming aspect. If it was local, small farms & free roaming animals it would be something to celebrate.
Apologies for the slightly off-topic comment, your video was very informative & I learned several new things!. Thank you.

Thank you CobraDove for your kind comments on the Calligraphy Clip. Let me explain, however, that, not being a skilled photographer/camera operator with one hand means that I can't demonstrate and take the film at the same time. I also want the camera to zoom in and out, rather than have it static on a tripod taking just one shot. I also don't earn enough to employ a professional to film, nor do I have friends who are skilled and certainly not who can film at a time convenient to me. So my husband does it. You won't be surprised to know that he's not a professional film maker either! So the choice is either no film at all or a wobbly one. You don't get any ads to sit through before these Calligraphy Clips and I have heard from others that they are useful. So no film or a wobbly one - I choose the wobbly one.

Patricia Lovett ok, I understand. And thank you for the most gracious response to my bitchy, annoyed comment, forgive me as the camerawork invokes that annoyance, and I'm annoyed at myself for my own lack of self-control in commenting in such a short manner. Let me give you (your husband) a couple of tips then, as your videos certainly are worth it. Your knowledge is amazing and it's worth learning this so your viewers can enjoy your videos to the fullest. Just pass this on to your dear husband :). Amateur videographers think that they have to move the camera around and "look around" like our eyes would, but when filming, you have to resist that urge and keep the camera absolutely still and not look around, so to speak. Any zooming in or camera angle changes should be done in the video editing process. If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPad mini, you can use iMovie and it is very, very simple in that application. You literally swipe your finger to split the clip and then click on the plus magnifying glass sign and push your fingers to zoom the clip view in. I recommend that for people who don't know about video editing or videography, and I use it myself as it's so quick and easy. I understand if you don't have the will or the desire to learn this, but I really recommend that you do… It is a very easy application and pretty intuitive. I have an utmost respect for the work you do here, the artistic lettering and the illuminated manuscript art form. I am going to attempt one myself for a dear friend to illustrate his baptismal document - he is being baptized out of the beast system of commerce and will be accessing the trust as promised in the legally binding documents that are the two Bulls, or the Bible. Most people do not understand that to be born again actually brings you out of the legal fiction dead status into Life, as the HEIR and only then do you have claim to land and the promises offered, as you are born into into a new legal jurisdiction, no longer a surety or DEBTOR, but CREDITOR to the system. It is the Way, the Truth and the Life as you are no longer a participant in creating debt (the beast system of pledging). Then, you are walking above water (admiralty Law), the Sea of Commerce, a higher jurisdiction, walking Jesus' walk, and all is provided for by the trustees (public servants in office of the Minister), as per the promise. Am learning from your videos and looking forward to watching them all to help me in my endeavour to recreate illuminated text! As you see by my channel, I do study law/legal/scripture matters, but I am an artist and have most of the materials to accomplish the manuscript document. Cheers from Canada!
