      OMG, it's SO painful watching CZcams. People do all this fancy editing and then BOOOOOOOOM the unnecessary "Outro" music plays and nearly blows your speaker system, because it's always at level 11 volume. You have to turn the volume up to the max for many podcasts, until their end credit music plays and then the volume destroys a whole city block. I can't handle it.

    Finally a review of the CBX that doesn't exaggerate it's dimensions. It's only an 1" wider than my 80's Suzuki GS1150, and that's at the cylinders. Down low at the crankcase ends it actually has more lean clearance. The throttle response really is immediate the CBX carbs were the ultimate in carburation perfection. 45 years of ownership and I'm still in love with my 79 only my demise will end that.

    Once again Ryan has come up with a gem of a video. As a former owner of THREE CBX's, one '79 and two 81's. I found them to be actually no more difficult to keep running well than most other machines of that era. The sound was intoxicating, and once sorted, they were reliable. Getting old and feebler, I sold my last one after 20 years of ownership. Good memories for sure.

      Why can't a motorcycle engine have 1 intake and 1 exhaust manifold like car engines? Why do they need 6 carbs and 6 exhaust pipes?

    • @alexandermoschonas2597
      @alexandermoschonas2597 Před 5 měsíci +34

      @@chadkline4268The 6 exhaust pipes isn't true, technically cars also have a an exhaust pipe per cyl they just call it a manifold because they're welded together, in bikes they're not but it's the same part with the same function.
      6 carbs help because the inside cyl run hotter than the outside ones and this changes slightly the amount of fuel they need. Cars can get away with 1 big carb because the engines are way bigger in displacement and less rev happy than motorcycle engines. The smaller the engine gets and the more revs it reaches the more fine the tuning needs to be so having 1 carb per cyl helps with that.

    Back in 1980, I was so tired of chains, I purchased a shaft drive bike. The CBX was in the showroom and I really wanted it but I wanted a chain less. The salesman really wanted me on the CBX because they had trouble selling them. Rumor had it back then, new old stock CBXs could be had for cheap. A couple of years later I got tied up with a small group that rode early on Sunday mornings. In that group was a guy that rode a CBX. It wasn't stock. I still remember hearing the howl of that engine while the bike quickly got smaller in my vision. Distant memories that are as clear today as when they were made. All these years later, could have and should have been sorted out. I didn't. I still love the memories. Thanks for bringing those memories back with this video. Merry Christmas to all!

Being a Traffic cop at the time meant that I could, actually, wring it out. It was the smoothest and fastest thing I had ever had between my legs. But I didn't buy it. I knew I would kill myself on it one day. In 2012 I bought a CBR1000F. That's when I found out what fast really meant. But I never thought it would kill me. I purchased a Black 1980 CBX off the showroom floor. It was an awesome engine on a so-so chassis.
    I added an Ontario Moto Tech 6 into 2 header and the Honda engine guards. It sounded like a Porsche Carrera!
    Otherwise it remained stock and perfect until I sold it in 1992 with 13k miles on it.
    I rode that bike from Iowa to California and back in the summer of '81 by adding a bolt on windshield and a backrest / luggage rack.
    Stayed in KOA campgrounds every night. It was a trip I've never forgotten.
    When I sold it I gave the guy the original pipes, factory service manual , and the tools and shims for valve clearance adjustments.
    I wish I would have kept that bike, or at least the extra "stuff" I threw in, but that's life.

    Awesome video! You should do one on the last of the litre sportbikes without any rider aids whatsoever. Not sure what year that'd be, but I remember my 929RR didn't have any, not even a steering damper, making for some very hairy off-ramps and late-fall rides on wet pavement (no abs, no TC, no quick-shifter, no slipper clutch) with 130ish HP on hand.

      The perfect bike does not exist. For example the motor not vibrating at all must be good for some and not enjoyable by others, the same as having no torque on low rpms vs a lot of power at high rpms or having a motor too big and heavy for the chasis. Some people may love it but others don't, there is a motorbike for every age and everyone but non is perfect for all.

    I feel so privileged to have lived through the years when bikes like the CBX were being sold, as we will never see their like again. Bikes these days are incredibly capable and packed with tech but they all seem to lack character or an automotive soul even. Bikes from the 70’s and 80’s certainly had faults but many of them were able to just ingrain themselves in our psyches and as a result are just as desirable now as they were back then. Thanks for another great year of content Ryan and we look forward to more of the same in 2024. ❤🏍️
