- E-bikes have come a long way, but the full powered e-bikes are still heavy and bulky. With the help of TQ, Christina explores how the latest batch of lightweight e-bikes deliver a ride feel closer to that of a regular mountain bike.

This is just a stealth advertisement. Hate this sort of thing. Be honest up front.
Maybe that is why in the beginning of the video it says the video contains paid promotion?? 🤔
@@passdutchy1194 Only flashes up on the first view. Subsequent views, it's gone. And contains paid promotion? It is almost entirely an advertisement. Disingenuous at best.
@@hifiandmtb still it is announced that the video has paid promotion so your complaint isn’t valid, sorry
Well, there is still preference involved so people can have complaints crazy ik. But people want content with ads. Not 10 minute ads. @@passdutchy1194
Just made the 10min mark guys, well done on bumbling this one out for the chi-ching.
Am I really alone with enjoying the sweat-purge I get from riding a long ascend with my own legs power? Why do all these clips advertise e-assist as the natural choice, only hindered by the weight-downsides of such vehicles?
Marketing, videos sponsored by ebike component companies.
Pinbike and most youtubers have become the medium where the marketing people deploy their budget
Same here. I like the uphill as much as the downhill. And I'm a heavy rider.
Think this is a week early
A lot of us just like to descend. We get a better FULL body workout from descending as well. Climbing just works the legs and heart. Descending works everything.
You’re not alone. Anything that gets people enjoying riding is great but personally, I like riding analog bikes and tempering my effort on a climb to still enjoy a descent.
Seems to be a big push in the mtb world for light emtb. The truth is, I see lots of mid power emtb's for sale to get the full fat model. Most will be disappointed with the low power models. You can always turn the full fat model down, or off for that matter. If you're gonno go, go big. Just my opinion and you aren't gonna change it with comments.
Another problem is, if they have smaller batteries and smaller motors, why don't they sell for less? Seems like they are as much or more than full fat bikes.
If youve ever ridden a full power ebike you'll instantly notice the insane amount of added weight, ive ridden a few and never felt comfortable going fast on something so heavy, it felt like I had less controll over anything. There fun for sure but I'd rather a light weight ebike like these. I don't need to go 20mph uphill and I can easily go to the max speed of a ebike down, my opinion though.
@@felixfam0481 I feel the weight of my full power but get used to it quickly. The handling and cornering is amazing due to the weight. I wish we could enjoy some down hill but I live in Fl. The full poser of an ebike is the closest I get to dh. Makes some mundane trails fun. Of course the tightness of a trail determines the speed. Most people thing when you get the ebike you become a screaming idiot when in truth you ride similar speeds, just much easier.
Or just get fit and quit riding a moped on bike trails like a geriatric
Blowing a leaf blower into an umbrella to move your bike forward will not work. The opposite forces cancel out each other. The movement there is only because of the pedaling.
In fact , you just need the leaf blower… umbrella will act like reverse on a jetski

option 4, get fitter
Friends who ride eMTB tell me it's a similar workout but way more fun as you get more runs in. I would like to see a side by side video comparing analog to electric bikes that focus on the rider stats such as average and max heart rate, total trail time vs. moving time, aerobic & anaerobic, calories burned, and total elevation gains.
They just say that to cope. E-bikes are sad and lazy
Most of the ebike riders I see look to be well into their retirement years. I hope to be shredding, ebike or not, at that age. Thanks for the comment to my comment 👍
@@stephenogilvie7422 That’s a good point and fair play to the older folks out there on e-bikes. I too hope to be riding mountain bikes well into my retirement years. I was feeling a little fired up when I left that comment, apologies for the hot take
That Mondraker bike looks amazing 😍
The baguette 🤣👌
Waiting for a lightweight Slash-e. That would be perfect.
The Mondraker Neat is the best looking EMTB on the market
Miss Mile Levy... a lot!!!
Great video guys, it was nice to learn a bit more about Tq noticed there motors recently and thought it was probably a cheap Chinese motor but really impressed with their history 🤟 p.s my option is full powered ebike with additional full powered collie/masstiff cross dog 💪
As an alternative to expensive e-bikes, may I recommend the newer expensive xc bikes? Unless you are truly unable to power a bike without assistance, consider a super lightweight easy-to-pedal mtb! If you're going to spend that money, why not get a real bike?! 😂 jk, but really...
My full suspension LaMere non-e bike weighs 25.20 pounds including pedals. For now, I'd rather ride a light bike using my own leg power, than a heavier bike with a power assist. This is my argument for not getting an e bike. I'm sure there are many others, and also those on the flip side, which are reasons to get an e bike. All are valid for one's own purpose, budget, and level of conditioning.
That's more in line with what I'm expecting from a emtb
A lightweight eMTB sounds great! I’ll buy one once I’m confident replacement electronics will be available 5-8 years after purchase.
Until then, I have an awesome trail dog!
Nah. I want a regular trail bike, a regular enduro bike, and a full power e bike with a dual crown 👍🏻
Amen
Easy to tell an ebike from a flintstone bike, the ebike rider will have a bigger smile.
I don’t mind sponsership by tq at all. What’s next? I suggest a short comparative review of all tq bikes (Fuel EXe and others) as well as any other bike in a similar weight penalty over analog (if it’s a good one).
oh i love me a good 4 minutes introduction !
I have a rottweiler mastiff mix that thinks he's a sled dog. The only problem is he needs a leader or he gets off track chasing squirrels and other small animals 😅
Your dog harassing wildlife isn't funny.
@@briannyob7799 never said I let him but he does try every once in a while. If dogs weren't trained not to they would bring kills home just like cats. It's in their nature
@andrewsiasparks good to hear that you control your dog. I've seen an off leash dog chase baby dear while the idiot owner stood there yelling at his dog.
I enjoyed learning maybe a tiny bit about harmonic pin drive. However, there is no proof in a pudding, no matter how many times you say it. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Advertising for TREK since they're cutting your paycheck and/or sponsorship?
I can't remember, was choosing a stable profession that paid a livable wage included in your "Things I Wish I Knew about Mountain Biking " video?
Price of these bikes is much to high for the range they can ride. 😢
Hilarious still seeing e bike haters. I've had a Turbo Levo SL since beginning 2020. 6,000 + miles. Not a single issue. Still going strong, 40 lb, better downhill than my Evil.
Best part of my day today was passing an e-bike on a climb.
Send me Henry I'll show him how to properly install a friggin press fit BB 😂
Do you use a hammer or a lump of wood?
@@Henry-QuinneyYou should leave Pinkbike immediately!
@@Hoderich_von_und_zu_Durchfall Immediately!
Cool ty
Advertisers don't seem to realize a lot of people will never buy e bikes because many people like bikes because they are simple and easy to work on and don't need a new fucking battery every few years.
“Character” definitely changed in mountain biking with E bikes 😂
GCN PNW
heyyyy... Why Does A Bare Frame Cost Like 3k????
Why not have one more thing that needs to be kept charged before you can use it. And plan around range and time charges take between rides. 😂😂😂 Just put a gas engine in the down tube already.
blow air mountain biking by Rob Warner circa 2003 :D
Much more i like traditional MTB,for me e-bike is for beginer.
making your "pet" tow you uphill should be considered animal abuse. Animal joints aren't as sufficient at endurance against humans, imagine you jogging your dog for an hour, you're dog definitely gets tired before you do. you're putting way too much stress on the animals joints by pushing them to keep up with you over hard terrain. There is a reason humans are known to outrun their prey.
My faith in our pack is restored. Just look at the few measly likes this blatant haul got. 😂
And the comments draw a clear picture as well. Stick to your crowd, Pinkbike!
these bike become obsolete in a season, most of the time anything goes wrong it's a write off - special tools and software work on the motors, proprietary battery housings and connections they are pretty much a bottomless pit for your money.
I've had a Turbo Levo SL since beginning 2020. 6,000 + miles. Not a single issue. Still going strong, 40 lb, better downhill than my Evil.
Probably better to have a separate channel for battery bikes.
It wouldnt enhance it for me...but im always underbiked and prefer type 2 fun. But to each their own
SL emtb will continue to develop and be pushed by better technologies, I think more so than full size emtbs.
Love my Levo SL
You killed it Christina awesome content and beautifully executed
I like this movement towards powered mountain bikes. I'm an older rider and really got back into mountain biking after a 30 year break from it when I bought a Turbo Levo in 2020. Now over 10000 kms later, a few simple modifications done at home, I'm still riding what I think is one of the best bicycles I've ever owned. While the younger rider may not want the powered bicycles yet, there are a lot of the older folk like myself (I know, I ride with them) who have been given another opportunity to be just as crazy as we were 30 or 40 years ago. Well done! Keep it coming.
Yeah, I’m in my 40s and took a ~20 year break as well. I’ll be on an e-bike, for sure.
I'm 53 I wouldn't be caught dead one. I also ride fully rigid. I would totally get an Ebike cargo bike for errand runs
So tired of seeing motor bikes instead of mountian bikes. An electric motor is a motor.
Press un-fit lol.
Nope
Lol
567 Likes 259 dislikes, dont take this as, bad content and booo e-bikes, people love them, they are just sick of stealth advertisements. Promote good stuff like FAZUA, not this shit.
Looks like trash
So another offleash dog going to annoy other riders (and wildlife) combined with elitist e-bike riders attitudes
I hate e cars and e bikes, just plain stupid!
I can't help myself but listening to a woman for so long talking about Mountainbikes is exhausting... I don't know, I just like men voices better and it is more pleasant to listen.
Hope this gets less. 👍
Number 2? Better pay attention in physics class when Newton's 3rd law is taught, instead making these useless videos.
How ugly can we make a bike?
