this is the 400th time listening to this song and must say, it gets better every time
Same !!!
For fun, check out the Berkley School of Music version too
So many people (looking at you, Lumineers) cover this song as a sad song about longing or going back home to your parents. That's not it, and Hayes gets it. "Home" is the person you're in love with.
yup, david byrne has said this... “The most direct love lyrics that I’ve ever written,”
My most favourite song in the whole wide world and it most definitely is a love song to me :)
I've heard a lot of covers of this song, and haven't noticed the distinction you are raising. It's a love song, but the melody and lyrics have a tinge of sadness, as every great love song does?
That's why my son and his wife chose this song for their first dance after they got married.
Never had the thought that it was about anything besides the (perhaps slightly melancholy) feelings of love from one towards another, or between a couple.
That guitarist is beyond epic with his technicality. It's surgical. Love it. Great vibes.
Surgical is a great way of putting it. Talented as fuck.
How about “forensic”, meaning admissible as evidence in a Law Court as proof of excellence?
The alternation of pickin' & strummin' towards the end is particularly pleasing.
Guitarist Eric Kuhn.
For sure, playing the guitar solo over and over, really nice arrangement and execution.
what a great cover! happy accident finding this gold
that guitar player absolutely KILLS it. what a sound. I wish i could jam like that
Checking in 11 years later to see if you can jam like that yet
It honestly is the best cover I have ever heard of this track! I have listened 1.000 times and it still transmits me so much positive energy! Hope to see once live after pandemia.
Don't get me wrong, this one is GREAT, but check out Lotus' version. They covered it live in 2014 at the Vibes festival. Their version is my favorite version of a cover of my all time favorite song.
@@zmeeds17 that one is great but don’t you think it sounds like a TH cover band? Singer doing his best Byrne shtick. I means it’s great but this version is just so earthy …
@@mostlyharmless88 the singer in the Lotus version is a "guest" singer. Definitely trying to do his best David Bryne impressing from Stop Making Sensr out there for sure. Lotus most certainly is NOT a Talking Heads cover band by any means. They did this one for a festival and bust it out on rare occasions. What I love about their version is the wicked guitar solo and overall groove to it.
Then you have never heard Shawn Colvin's cover. Imo that is the best cover of this song... but this one is excellent!
@@zmeeds17 Shawn Colvin, dude!!
Great example of the best way to cover a song. Change it enough to suit the band's style without changing TOO much.
Dunno. I've listened to 100's of covers of this song. Covering just about every genre of music known to man. There is a reason it gets covered so much and in so many different ways, over and above it being a great tune.
There is something ineffable about this song that makes it one of the most malleable tunes ever written. It can be twisted, turned, and morphed in so many ways while still being recognizable as the song it is and sounding at least decent, if not fab.
Its the thing about this tune that fascinates me most.
I'd be honored if some Talking Heads fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of THIS MUST BE THE PLACE (re-interpreted as a ballad) on my YT channel in tribute to one of the most unique & iconic bands of the late 70s/early 80s era. Raw acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace.
I think David Byrne would like this version.
👍👍👍👍
My fav part of this cover is how they change the lyrics from “and you love me until my heart stops, love you til your dead” to “and I love you til my heart stops, love you til I’m dead” it’s a change that makes the world difference in terms of me liking this version over the original. More romantic.
for a live performance the sound engineer pretty much EQ'd this perfectly !

The people that come to song know we are all in the right place🤙
We are indeed 🎶
I just played this twice. Man alive, I'm blown away at how damn GOOD this cover is!
Impressive.
Sean Hayes is the man. He deserves to be much more famous than he is. I’ve seen him live several times. Never disappoints.
Well shit, I’m a longtime Talking Heads fan (40+ years) and it’s rare to see & hear other artists cover a Heads song and pull it off. But this is simply the most brilliant interpretation of a truly brilliant Heads tune. This is magical. Take a much deserved bow lads. Bravo 👏👏👏👏
Sean's voice shines and flows. But the band really honored this great song as well. Had me sailing the whole way. All 3 times!
Only 3? :)
such smooth notes coming from that fender
.......
Anybody Now the Bass Tabs For This Song !
The guitar player was the sh!t! This is by far the best cover to this song. DB would be proud! I can listen to this version all night long! :-)
He plays with his thumb on the fretboard!
This song never leaves my head. It's simply a classic. Lots of great cover versions on CZcams; this is one of the best!
I have been a huge Talking Heads fan since their first album came out. I have listened to this song so many times over the years and it has meant a lot to me. Your version is by far my favorite ever, even anything Talking Heads ever came up with. Kudos to you and your bandmates on what seems to be just a normal routine session for you guys. I will definitely be a fan of Sean Hayes from now on.
100 %
Likewise ... so up beat !!!
These guys are just so mature in their playing. I love it!
Fantastic...whoever did this recording. Fucking technically fantastic...the song is poetry of course but this is free form extraordinaire.
Yeah, a great recording. One of the best videos on youtube.
Man and Guitar become one; life-giving melodies emerge...
Home is where I want to be. But I guess I'm already there
Nice band and tasty guitar work.
This is THE best cover I've ever heard. Mindblowing.
Great tune, great cover. It's really hard to get that balance of twangy guitar, bass, drums and vocals on this song... especially in a live act (and by this I mean you nailed it!).
ive never heard of this band, but what a good singer, nice guitar work, and a really nice version of this great song, brilliant.
Same here.
Awesome cover of one of my favorite songs!
This guitarist IS this song, the original is a mixture of mostly keybords, with the funky guitar to the side, this guy..THIS funky GUY covers both in.the.pocket.
The guitarist (Eric Kuhn) hits the ground running and never looks back. And Sean Hayes' voice is perfect here.
This is really amazing. A wonderful cover of one of the coolest songs ever made .
This cover blows me away. Great job!
It is an individual interpretation. For some it can be a literal place called home. It can also be home in a relationship. It is lovely that this song can be absorbed in so many different ways. Some take a "weakened heart" as a physical illness. Some see that as a weak in strength of the mind. To me, it is a love story between 2 people.
Maaaaan!!!! I'm still at work and got a world to do left but THIS, THIS just made my day and give me the lift i need!!! What a great great great fucking cover, hands down!!!!
love this version,beat is magic.
fuck yea this is raw
01:21 "Damn i messed up the words!" ahah
I really like it, well done.
Really wonderful version... thanks
WOW!!! That sounds @$÷*#@& amazing! I have never heard of Sean Hayes before. What a treat for my ears! ❤❤❤
Nice camera work! Soft zooms blend well with the mood, b&w is beautiful -- nice single camera capture, and having a well-balanced recording doesn't hurt either.
Tom McAfee Thanks for the kind words!
who is that groovy man on guitar?! I don't know anything about Sean Hayes, but I'm digging this cat like catnip
Eric Kuhn is his name.
He doesn't play with Sean Hayes anymore, moved back east, has his own band.
@@quicokirk thelightswitches.com/ is his new band
best cover for "naive melody". EVER!
I've been scouring CZcams for a good cover of this song. Arcade Fire and The Lumineers are both complete garbage. Sean Hayes saves the damn day. Great stuff.
RandomHero95
Walk the moon does a good cover too!
me too! and I agree.
Shawn Colvin does a nice cover.
Shawn Colvin owned it!
check out Perpetual Groove's cover
4:28 holy shit
Listening now, for the first time. The lowdown, warm vibe of the beginning of the song grabbed me big time...made me feel good, made me smile..Naive Melody is one of the most romantic pop songs ever written, methinks. It is also one of my favourite songs to sing (I have been singing 30 years and miss it live)
This fellow can sing. He's kept it in the same key, faithful to the song, and has adapted vocal skill and style, to accomodate an uncomfortable key., transposing...fucking brilliant..
Arrangement?? Don't get me started :)
Thanks to the OP, Fast Atmosphere
that guy is tickling that telly so fine!!!
The fragrance of her alluring charms brought home to him the lost world we dream coming true for once we find our soulmate and never wander to drown in the cloudy halls of misconceptions judging and comparing everything that touches consciousness along the lines of the great judge inside the little brain being reflected against itself in self-defenses that slowly wither down any chance of self-redemption by the way of thou and I there came to be not what was expected and time passed then who are we to expect with great anticipation to feel worthy of anything better how cheap and self-absorbed without redeeming qualities now only the thought remnants of times in a life when each day started and ended with your thought.
Smooth sounds.
i just stumbled over this again and realized just how brilliant the pal muted telecaster chicken pickin is here- beautiful.
I just got the 40th anniversary of Stop Making Sense 4K Blu-ray collection but I cannot get myself to watch it for the first time. With this Sean Hayes' cover, I've got plenty of time ♥️ such a powerful cover, uplifting sensation.
Well, I keep coming back to this song....I just love it.
Sean has an actors face
And cheers to the band

Died and gone to heaven
Great band.
I cannot get enough of this cover!!!!!!! Better than the Heads.
Easy now.
So f*#king good!
That was immense, thank you
That was some GREAT shit.
80, great time in music, no autotune, no fake, just music.
what a discovery. haven't felt like this since the very first time i heard counting crows long ago.
Great voice, nice vid, great cover.
love that guitar playing
Great groove. Best cover. One of my favorite video. Thanks for posting.
Reminds me of Josh Rouse
Brilliant cover and tremendous guitar work and Sean is as wonderful as ever! Thanks so much!
Know this, David Byrne says this is the only love song he ever wrote while in Talking Heads!! ❤
Yes
I love how the song has people talking and cheering in the background. Hits differently.
Awesome awesome cover! Glad I came across it!
Can not stop listening....going to learn those guitar parts...guitar awesomeness, and the whole cover
Why do I keep watching this video over and over. Well done guys 👍
👍🤘😎
IN May 2021 I just discovered this song and I can't get enough of this!!
Home is eternal life. Home is Heaven,
Wow, what a nice touch on the guitar!
Much like Talking Heads version. But Sean really takes this song and owns it and makes it his own. Same roots, but different tree.
Hot damn, this cover is fire. Home is this band and this dude lives there.
Just discovered this love DB,Sean Hayes and brothers outstanding
My favourite song. Well Done Great cover. Having watched all the vid It is fooking awesome.
My favorite song too. To hear Sean Hayes my favorite musician singing my favorite song is such sweetness to my life❤
Very Cool, wait a minute… the coolest!
I think I love 😍 this...
beautiful.
Love it!
Refreshing. Keep it alive. So ONE sound ! and still so much talking heads.
This is truly awesome. I've gone a-searchin' for covers of this song every mos and never stumbled on this. Surprised there aren't more great covers of this truly great song. This no doubt would be still upvoted even if there were more great covers. Like this artist and this cover interpretation even w/o the lamenting synthesizer.
Tripp Knightly
Walk the moon does a good version too!
About 20 versions now on line ... from hillbilly bluegrass ... to xylophones ...
It may be sacrilege, but I swear I almost like this as much as the brilliant original - what a grooooove😎😎
Love the guitar player.
Would love to have the original audio of this. The background crowd adds to the vibe so well
LOVE the Shawn Colvin version!
About the 1000th time I watched this. No discredit to Shaun and the rest of the band but Eric Kuhn, you are the man that makes this really special. Have you tabbed that anywhere?
Found this while listening to an L.A.B. playlist. I love it! I will be exploring more Sean Hayes band!
wowww close or even better cover ... respect. Thanks these songs from Talking Heads still performed
hi oh! Blinding cover! guitarist got the chops going on! Beautiful.
this might be the best one camera video I have ever seen of a live show.. thanks whoever did it.. perfect timing on zooming in on that solo
The less we say about it the better; ta ta ta tttttta tttttta ta ttt taaaaattttta
One of the best singers out there. Keep making music!
Bass ,drums, guitars, singing, all very good thanks from Australia cheers
Epic. Touched my soul.
this is how to cover a song, really nice job, you used the guitar instead of something else... you get an A+!
Well f*cking done! I was bobbing the whole time! Haha
great cover
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
