I back the Dutch farmers, but the solution here is to help them transition to regenerative methods so they aren't dependent upon artificial fertilizer, the production and application of which are problematic for the climate. Since artificial nitrogen fertilizer is fossil-fuel based, it's a finite resource. We need to learn to live with a lot less of it anyway. As for confiscating farmland, that's BS.

But we have to follow the same rules as Germany, which is much bigger and much less densely populated. I'm Dutch. Our farmers have pushed back nitrogen more than 70 % over the years, the government report stated. We are the #1 country in the world that has the cleanest soil and lowest nitrogen. Farmers around the world are following our example. This government has plans to make THE WHOLE OF THE NETHERLANDS and a chunk of Vlaanderen into one big European city. That's why they want the farmers gone. It has nothing to do with nitrogen. That's just the excuse.
Farmers here are committing suicide as we speak. Many other sectors will suffer from this.
It is never a good plan to make yourself dependent on other countries where your necessity of life is concerned. We already saw that with the gas we are dependent on from Russia, who is at war with Ukraine and now Russia has closed the gas tap because Netherlands supports Ukraine.
The government is already exproperating farmer's lands. It's ridiculous, outrageous and very irresponsible behavior.

Right now the electricity network is being prepared for the extra electricity that all those cars and solar panels will need and produce. During the day the network is overwhelmed with electricity. Because of this they have in areas stopped connecting solar panels to the network. It's going to take years to transition.
Also the Netherlands exports alot of food. It's the second largest exporter on the planet but is a tiny country. The country could cut production and still easily feed the population. The problem is that the nature is dying from the emissions. One of the fastest ways to cut emissions is to reduce the cattle! They can farm other things like fruit, grain or vegetables but don't want to. Cattle pays better and they already have the stuff for cattle. The smartest option is to reduce the livestock because it's not even being eaten in the country.

For the general public, the most prominent sources of NO2 are internal combustion engines burning fossil fuels(mostly diesel engines). Outdoors, NO2 can be a result of traffic from motor vehicles. Agricultural workers can be exposed to NO2 arising from grain decomposing in silos. - Wiki
