Allan Moffat and John Harvey teamed up in the #5 Rothmans Holden Commodore to win the inaugural round of the World Touring Car Championship at Monza in March 1987. Despite finishing seventh on track, it was later found that the leading six BMWs had been given the "Jenny Craig touch" as commentator Mike Raymond put it, and were disqualified.

John Harvey. A quiet achiever of the best degree.
Is Allan Moffat the most humble Motorsport legend ever ? . Yes yes he is
2nd to Larry Perkins
A close 3rd would have to go to Jim Richards.
IMO the Rothmans Commodore was actually the best looking of the HDT VL Group A's.
Rudi Egenberger had a scrutineering hassle? I can't believe it
Well known for it
Well he didn’t have the right sticker on his EFI . Either did Andy Rouse ; then Rouse put the sticker on and it was all good to race.
Legend Moffat.
Moffat says they never ever got the trophy for the win.
holy crap - i never new about this - well done - always loved the look of the pre walkinshaw vl - pity it didnt have twin over head cam - 4 valve heads and full injection in place
Guess they didn’t need it.
It took GM till the C8 Corvette 2021 to work that out .
Direct injection and 32 valve 4 cam would have been good for another 100 hp. Although Lotus did a Multi valve quad cam v8 in limited numbers in the 90’s.
Our prison overlords would never let us have that stuff
@@BruceLee-sw4ms Not needed, look what they did with the Holden V8 and the Chevrolet V8, as long as it has good combustion chambers a pushrod V8 can go very well.
@@JohnSmith-rw8uh a pushrod engine hasn’t won a major international race since the 1960’s. USA race between themselves , that’s not international.
If I recall correctly I think BMW got done for the front guards being cut down an inch from standard at one race. There was also a rumor that some teams had come up with a system of putting a gallon or two of fuel in the roll cage.
The Aussie V8 shows the Cheaters how it's done...Legally!!Well done John Harvey and Allan Moffat.
Jim Larry and alan❤
50kg underweight! now that is gumption
That look on their faces at the podium, where’s the trophy. Like the Seinfeld soup kitchen chef no trophy for you.
I had to laugh when they said they were as fast as anybody. The Andy Rouse sierra RS was 2.89 seconds faster in qualifying……
A classic example as to why I do not follow motor Sports to this day. The Alfa Romeo did this type of thing in America Years ago and Datsun won but the cheats having lost the series Alfa was not made so public. John, Australia.
Kind of the same when 3 young blokes get kicked out the cricket after being accused of racism by an Indian player. Their faces all over the tv. 3 weeks latter a half baked story saying there was nothing in it
Xcellent outcome VL Comodores .
BMW 's Cheating on a Diet of 50 kilos . Gr8 2 see them all get disqualified
So Moffat and Harvey did a 'Bradbury" before he did. Who woulda thunk it.
