    "The regional connector ... connects the region." These are the sort of insights you can only get from this channel. Excellent video, I damaged my mouse clicking the like button so hard.

    The regional connector finally makes the LA Metro feel like real Metro of a big city so you can now crisscross it in a one seat ride.
    I live near the Atlantic station in East LA so i plan to visit Santa Monica more often this summer. I took the E line to Santa Monica over opening weekend and we hung out at the beach and had lunch on the pier. I hadn't been to the pier in 20 years because parking was always a hassle and not cheap. And having to do multiple transfers on various stations before the regional connector wasn't appealing either because it just took to damn long. Thanks for the video.

    Another cool thing about the 5 shared stations between the E and A lines (including the 3 new ones), is that you can transfer between the E and A lines without needing to use your TAP card. It's a TAP free transfer because you're already on the platform. It's awesome!

    That was an excellent explanation of something that confused me as an annual visitor to DTLA via Amtrak. I'd stay at the Doubletree in Little Tokyo and you damn sure couldn't miss the construction, but I never understood why it was so important, nor took so long. Now I got it, thanks!

    I love that the reigional connector made the A-Line the longest light rail line in the world. Thats so cool to me.

    The approach into the new tunnels is so slow that I wish they lengthened the underground tunnels, straightened out the viaducts, and have more grade separation from vehicle traffic.

    The MTA sure missed a good opportunity to save tens of millions of dollars; they could've taken the line down Alameda street, build just ONE station at 7th street, continue down to Washington Blvd, turn west, and connect with the pre-existing blue line with a double-track wye.
    Another double-track wye can be constructed at the site of the old Amoco Junction; the defunct right-of-way can be re-utilized to connect the Expo line to Santa Monica.
    But THIS is what the region's stuck with now; a helluva hefty price tag o serve an area already well served by the pre-existing heavy rail subway....

    There are a lot of people who rode the old Gold Line from Azusa or Pasadena who work in downtown LA. Previously, they had to change trains in Union Station and take another train to 7th Street Station. Or they would transfer to a local bus to get into downtown. Now many of these people can take a one trip ride to 7th Street Station thanks to the Regional Connector.
    Is it now much easier to get to the Disney Concert Center using the Regional Connector?

    • @Kerry.
      @Kerry.  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, I would say. There's a bridge at Hope St that gets you directly to the Disney Concert Hall. But the Purple & Red subways also work.

    Why the awkward slow dog leg between Little Tokyo and Union Station? The trains have to crawl through there.

    i dont get how one of the largest cities in the country relies on light rail lines to get people around. like build an ACTUAL subway. not some trolley line.

      It MUST be understood that Los Angeles is the capital of world transportation stupidity; two very good rail-based public transit systems existed in southern California; the Pacific Electric Red Cars, and the Los Angeles Railway Yellow Cars served the people very well WITHOUT the need for rubber tires/steering wheels of any kind.
      Now that the region is making strenuous efforts to replace just a SMALL FRACTION of what once existed, they're making all manner of erroneous decisions; the regional connector could've been built for a fraction of the cost of what was spent on tunnelling and station construction----the line COULD'VE BEEN TAKEN STRAIGHT DOWN ALAMEDA STREET WITH A STATION AT 7th STREET, AND CONTINUING SOUTH TO WASHINGTON BLVD. WHERE IT'D THEN TURN WEST TO CONNECT WITH THE BLUE LINE WITH A DOUBLE-TRACK WYE . ANOTHER DOUBLE-TRACK WYE CAN BE BUILT AT THE OLD SITE OF THE AMOCO JUNCTION, REBUILDING THE DEFUNCT RIGHT-OF-WAY SO THE NEW LINE WILL BE CONNECTED TO THE EXPO LINE TO SANTA MONICA!!
      All this would've cost a helluva lot less than ten expensive tunnelling and station work that so much money was spent on!!
