I built a shelter in the red woods with a group of strangers who were homeless drifters like myself. We lived in it during an intense 4 day rainstorm. We rebuilt a shelter as a group after day one improved it and moved locations and never were at each others throats even once, even found another guy in the woods and had him stay with us too.We all became like family in just a couple of days.

That's the issue with this show. Everyone knows the option to leave is always there. In a real survival situation that's not something anyone can just fall back on and of course that knowledge is in the back of everyone's minds when things start to get ugly. I think if they were not able to jump ship, the psychology of the whole endeavour would have been different. When you know you have no choice but to cooperate, you find a way.

Not to mention that he is loud, though that is a personal issue nothing more. Credit where credit is due. His pushy and loud character was helpful putting some haste into the group reaching the beach though, definitely did his part that day. I want to do this! if i fail i fail but i so want to try this. Get away from social media. Get away from bills. Get away from dumb bs that we stress about. Have some real things to stress about. Food and water. Shelter. Thats real worry. We could all do some good going back to the basics for a little while and realize how lucky we are. They have the ocean right there full of food. id be trying to catch fish like some sea mammals do. They push the fish towards the shore by surrounding them. they have enough people they can do it. They had basic fishing gear i thought they said. Yet i havent seen anyone break any out yet. They need food bad. If they can gt some food they will start to feel better. Become more positive. The old man pestered Paul so much, he left. He was the real leader of the group; decisive, strong, tough, meanwhile the old man wished to doze off and complain when things didn't go his way. He never should have come on the trip because he wasn't committed. He is an old man who is bored and lazy.

Kinda, but no - the leader listens all the opinions presented, discusses the options with the team and then makes a final decision where the group's direction is going. Once it's decided, no more discussions on the matter - time of chat is over, action time! Only decision implementation related tips and criticisms are accepted. And if someone steps out of line you talk with them first, but if it continues to repeat - you get rid of them, as they're not only undermining your authority, but also decreasing efficiency and morale of an entire group.
Especially in such a survival conditions - these are the grown-ass men on uninhabited island and not some drama queens at kindergarten for everyone to tip-toe around. ABC of organizational behavior (and common sense I would add - you don't need a degree to know all this).

I know this isn't in any way similar, but I feel the galvanization motive is deeply personal. I went through basic training in the US military. I went in older than most, and I liked my personal comforts. When I started to falter, the others seemed to write me off. So I bounced back and doubled down. I completed basic and was recognized by my peers as the best leader. I was told that the men thought that I was done for. My own drill sergeant thought I was a wash out. Being able to push through is a tremendous boost to morale no matter the circumstances.

I woke up at 7am thinking my sack was caught on a spring or something. I reached down expecting to be caught up.. nothing but a sharp burning sensation exactly like a bee sting. I rolled over & pushed my covers off me slowly. Then I felt a sting on my foot. I picked the blanket up & seen the scorpion.

I do feel like in a situation like this, you cannot waste a single ounce of energy trying to get people to stick around or get motivated to work. Either they're committed to the group's survival or they should be cut loose. You shouldn't have to convince anyone to stick around. It seems like half of their energy is spent dealing with drama. I'd rather work with 7 out of 14 highly motivated individuals only than deal with the emotional drain of the remaining ones. This should've been one of the first rules set after they introduced themselves. Guys like Paul, Andy, and the kid should've been left behind as soon as they introduced discontent. Fear and negativity spreads like a disease, and these guys are patients zero.

From day one Andy was put off that they were leaving him behind when they were cutting through the forest and that along with his personality has made him very resentful of the group from the start. You then take into account the other builders natural tendency to lead lead or take charge, and Andy's age.... It just seems like the other guy would have been a much better person to keep then Andy.
