It was 2001, and Justin Strubing came in hot with one of the best video parts of the year. Here it is, from Foundation's Art Bars Subtitles And Seagulls.
Blue Torch!! Thank for that. I remembered the shows name was Blue something. I used to record it on VHS too. Mostly for the music. That show turned me on to a lot of good tunes like Folk Implosion here.
Classic bag of tricks, skates fast and a good style, take note up and coming pro's, he ticks most of the boxes. Don't get too bogged down by tech, this guy makes an ollie look special
this was my era of skating. art bars, misled youth, modus operandi, the storm, fulfill the dream, menikmati. these were the videos i would get psyched on. in the days of the VHS tape.
Art Bars didn't get enough credit. Cuz it was artsy. Strubing one upped himself in That's Life. His That's Life part has to be top 20 video parts of all time imo.
His speed means more leg strength than most tight ass jeans.. Skates a bit like Machnau, gnarly-- but Strubing has less flashy arm flapping and body english. Super quiet gnar-style indeed
he's the og busenitz. just would blaze at everything and in runs. you should stop callilng these classics and call me, awesome ass vid parts you youngsters have never seen.
@Framework17 oh my god, how could i forget about the end?? and when 411vm was a real legit thing. adio's one step beyond was a big one for me too. or the first flip sorry video.
Over 20 years later and who can do extended crooks, extended b/s tailslides like that *in the streets* ? (despite everyone "skating for fun", now). There was a time in (street) skating history when *elitism was what dominated. Now, everyone thinks their hot shit for merely 'riding a skateboard'/ owning a pair a vans. Again, your average 'skateboarder' today can't do/ does not do 90% of the stuff in this vid, let alone attempt such simple tricks at a like-speed, like Strubing, here. This vid is from year 2100, not 2000, imho. And what about the footwear? My gawd. Idk what happened with the modern skate industry's choice to render all skate shoe styles as these cheapy, low profile shoes. The early 00's had some models that were stylish as hell. The Emerica Marc Johnson 1s and 2s frequent much here in Art Bars. Such an awesome shoe when it was available. Why we're still a culture limiting ourselves to low-profile, "old school" Vans-y looking shoe models is beyond me.
@666BliSS haha I do agree with the rip off of vans by every company these days, but they do look cool! I remember back in the day when i used to wear work boot skate shoes haha
On VHS, for a year, I watched this nearly everyday.
same here
I remember seeing this part on blue torch TV lol
Me too, bro. I recorded it on VHS to watch with my friends before the session
Robert Cesena Yes thank you !! I loved how they would just feature skate video parts .
Blue Torch!! Thank for that. I remembered the shows name was Blue something. I used to record it on VHS too. Mostly for the music. That show turned me on to a lot of good tunes like Folk Implosion here.
Amazing, amazing part. Because of his style and speed alone. But his trick selection is also fantastic!
Classic bag of tricks, skates fast and a good style, take note up and coming pro's, he ticks most of the boxes. Don't get too bogged down by tech, this guy makes an ollie look special

Tweaked-Ass melon at 2:41 was supurb, I remember seeing a photo of it in Transworld way back when.
the kind of spots he skates reminds me of things that would be in parkour videos hahah
yeah it says it's folk implosion but it's actually an instrumental version of a serge gainsborough song i can't remember what it's called though
@Framework17 oh my god, how could i forget about the end?? and when 411vm was a real legit thing. adio's one step beyond was a big one for me too.
@Dawer8D it was actually in tony hawk 3 years before skate came out.
the first time i heard of him was in a strange notes
only one word can descripe what im felling now : sick
ive never seen someone push their fastest to do a back smith on a knee high ledge. haha
He had a great blunt
His speed means more leg strength than most tight ass jeans.. Skates a bit like Machnau, gnarly-- but Strubing has less flashy arm flapping and body english. Super quiet gnar-style indeed
Body English? No, just no.
he's the og busenitz. just would blaze at everything and in runs. you should stop callilng these classics and call me, awesome ass vid parts you youngsters have never seen.
