Wrapping My Porsche Cayman... TWICE!!!

- Its so much fun working on our shop Porsche Cayman S! I've wanted to wrap the Cayman this color for forever! Unfortunately, the first color didn't work out but the second roll of vinyl we received was amazing! Highly recommend sticking with Avery Dennison Wrap Films.
This wrap took about 40 man hours to complete. That is from once the dirty car came in to when we drove it out. If your doing a wrap by yourself, it might take longer! Huge thanks to my #1 wrap installer Faith for helping! Check her insta @faith_Noellle!

It looked like the roof was left unwrapped and I thought "hey, that looks cool. I saw today while you were "sledding with your car" that indeed, you had left it unwrapped. Good pull. Years ago I had a VW Beetle and I would put 4 Fulda studded snow tires on the car and I could drive through 8" of snow. The narrow profile and large diameter would dig down into the snow and make the gearing taller. Wider tires distribute the weight like a snowboard.

Thanks for the video. I'm about to attempt wrapping my 987.1 Cayman S and this definitely gave me a starting point.
About the bumps in the Oracal: I saw another video somewhere that it's being caused by Oracal switching to a softer adhesive that's supposedly easier to work with. However, if you pull the vinyl across the body as you stretch it, it causes the adhesive to pill up into the little balls you're seeing. Apparently you need to lift the vinyl completely up while stretching, with no contact on the body.
One final thing: I'd love to see some short videos on how you handle some parts of the Cayman like how to remove and wrap the roof rails, as well as wrapping the mirrors.
Again, thanks for doing these videos, it's been really helpful since I own a very similar model.
Yeah I spent about 3 hours testing the oracal vinyl. Its absolute garbage. I wrapped the Cayman hood (one of the easiest hoods out there). I didnt let the vinyl touch it at all till I squeezed it on. Still bumps EVERYWHERE. whatever they did the the adhesive ruined their product lol. The roof rails just pop off if you pull then straight upwards. The rear has 1 pin to remove

Its pretty easy to do yourself if you want a do it yourself type project.
My only issue is my garage isn’t that large and I’m worried about dust and particles getting under the wrap when applying.

I am actually thinking of wrapping my 1991 Acura NSX in the same color (or maybe Smurf blue). How much would you charge to wrap a 1991 black Acura NSX? 1991 NSX!?!?! One of my dream cars! Personally I'd do this same color, gloss dark grey or a lighter nardo grey. That would look sick! I'd charge about $3500 ish.
OMG - my first quote is $4500 minimum and up to $6,000 depending on color I choose. Does that sound legit?
Yeah that sounds about right. The quote I ga e you was off the top of my head. I'd really want to inspect the car fully to know the work load, then finalize the quote
Summit Auto Lab : thanks for the info Clayton. Man I wish I was in Utah...I’d gladly pay you $3500 to wrap my nsx. That sounds reasonable! I know it’s a ton of work but considering I just bought a minty 2002 Acura RL for $4300....hard to justify a wrap for $5-$6,000.....I’d rather buy another fun car 🤣. Hopefully my other quotes are in line with your ball park. How long do the wraps last?

Happy to have found this video- and your stream. I'm preparing to wrap my black 05 Boxster in this same gray (1st time wrapper). Was it the Avery Dennison SW 900-832-O? Also, how did the white plasti-dip on your wheels hold up?
Man, your car turned out looking great! The gray with the black accents (mirrors, roof, wheels) really looks good. Are you going to apply a ceramic coating or other type of gloss enhancer, or protection?
I have a 991.1 C2S which is GT Silver, my favorite color, so I won't be wrapping it anytime soon! lol

A 996 911 coupe would be more actually. Not much more but the 996 has the rough engine cover wing grill thing. That adds a few hours. A roll of vinyl costs about $700
True, I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense. On the other hand, my car is black, and there is a case to be made for leaving that part black, like the old air-cooled cars. Anyway, thanks for the information.

Enjoy your videos very much. Something I am very curious about is what is involved in paint preparation for a wrap? Does all the wax need to be stripped off? If you have tiny rock chips do you need to get those sorted or can the wrap reasonably camouflage that?
The paint needs to be free from all waxes. And we suggest filling chips as the vinyl mimics the surface. If theres big chips you'll see the outline through the wrap

Always depends on the shop, color of the car and vinyl color. I'd say between $2,000-$3,000

The cost has lots of variables, like where your located, the shops experience, the color of the car and what color you want it wrapped. But I'd say $2,500-$3500 is a good ball park

I actually have a cayman question, because I couldn't figure this out when I wrapped my roof. How do you fully remove the rain gutter/rack rails? mine would come up but the very back by the hatch seemed like it would break if i pulled on it.
Great question! So in the rear of the roof rails, there is a small plastic pin. You can only see it or get it out with the hatch all the way open. Just use a plastic fork pry tool and pop the pin out and bam the rail come right off... given that you popped all the other clips holding it in

Hi Clayton... I have a 05 Nissan Altima and I was wanting to wrap it matte black with carbon accents. I was just wondering if you have had any experience with the Nissan Altima. Are they hard to wrap??
I have never wrapped an Altima! Shouldnt be too hard though! Just make sure you do your homework watch videos on how to wrap, and I'm sure you'll figure it out!

What the i was trying to find this done but places were saying 4 thousand and cheapest I found was 2999 I went and waxed my factory paint instead. Do you charge that much to change the color on a c class 4 door Clayton?
Yeah for a Mercedes c class I'd charge about $3250. Depending on the color you wanted

I always suggest getting a full roll. That way you have enough to mess up or re wrap something later.
