Chinese heaven is also one of the most organized divine bureaucracy in the world. Instead of all the infighting like in Greek/Norse mythology, Chinese gods work towards the same goal for the most part, and Gods are willing to work with demons to achieve a better goal if needed be.

I wonder if it's a reflection of the cultures and beliefs of the countries/societies where those myths originate from? Western gods tend to be more combative and conflict-prone than Eastern ones, who tend to be more peaceful and diplomatic by comparison (except for some, ofc)? Idk, just my personal observations. If you dive deep into Western vs Eastern cultures, you will find lots of different and contrasting elements.

my Chinese friend, in response to a Christian who was trying to convert him, retorted "why should I pray to your god when we Chinese have so many of our own, many even better than yours". this statement reverberates my mind even now. China is so rich culture and they should be proud of their ancestry and inheritance.

    • @MGComics
      @MGComics Před 6 lety +33

Rajeshwar Sharma mm Not trying to convert or anything lol But what I even see some christians miss is ...because of the philosophy probably of loving everyone that does come in the New Testament, however I'm not convinced by the Old Testament. Jesus said to love the women, the men, the sinners or people who made mistakes, the sick, the healthy, those who shared their faith and those who didn't, the "cursed", the poor, the rich, etc. I'm sure chinese gods are amazing, though I'm a bit ignorant to what extent their teachings affect humanity. For me to try to love and respect everyone sounds deep, beautiful and complete. It conducts to peace, to being honorable, to be honest, to respect others (family and elders of course, but literally everyone) which for me conducts to the biggest values of life, and even solves ethical problems. So for me it's more about their philosophy than believing someone to have powers (on any religion) ♡ I try to approach this in a more rational manner rather than basically magic. I may be wrong on the belief but I do believe that Love for myself and all humanity are 100% right. Again I don't stand by the old Testament, it makes me doubt a lot... but at least Jesus's teachings ring Truth to me. Hope this clears a bit of this topic! I don't talk on the name of christians or anything (to some of them I may not even be exactly christian, because I'm catholic, Idk how to explain this in english rn), this is just what I have researched ♡ And If you want to teach me something I don't know about chinese gods feel free ^^ I like to learn. Currently I want to read Confucius who is considered super wise, though I've heard that he still places the unit before the individual which I'm not 100% convinced about, but hey, I will check it out! I like keeping an open mind and learn fascinating things about other cultures.

The Chinese people's beliefs are complex, just like Chinese culture, because after 4,000 years of development, it has never been interrupted. China's popular ancestor worship and bloody sacrifices in the Shang Dynasty, Taoism appeared in the Zhou Dynasty, Taoism for the Chinese It is very important that many of China's mythical figures are from Taoism. In fact, Taoism cannot be regarded as a kind of religion. It is a kind of philosophical thought. The same Han Dynasty Buddhism was introduced to China and was localized. Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism were finally Incorporate together, in which Confucianism requires everyone to strictly demand themselves and make their morals perfect, but Confucianism never talks about life and death. Confucius said, if you can't understand the meaning of life, how can you know the death?

I am a staunch Buddhist, but I am curious about some of the Chinese gods having watched Sun Wukong in Journey to the West 1986 series many times. With the exception of Tathagata (Buddha), Guanyin Goddess (Goddess of Mercy) is the most powerful and often comes to help Sun Wukong and the Tang priest. At the end of the journey, Sun Wukong was appointed as the Victorious Fighting Buddha. The thing I want to know is this ~ who is more powerful? Sun Wukong or Erlang Shen? Erlang Shen is the nephew of the Jade Emperor, the 2nd most popular god after Guayin, the best warrior general in Heaven.

I also compare it to the legends of other places (such as similarities with Ymir and Pangu as well as Nu wa and Prometheus) as well as scientific theory due to my own religion combining all religions and emphasising modern science.

Chinese Mythology is very complicated and incredibly massive, since we adopt characters from literatures throughout the dynasties as gods, sometimes we also pray to historical figures (关公,诸葛亮), and often times land gods 地祖公, stove gods 灶神, wealth god 财神, sky gods(天神的翻译?), etc. We also pray to our ancestors literally, setting up shrines for elders that had passed away.
Religion for Chinese people is embedded with heavy essence of culture especially Taoism, I don’t have a specific religion but my family do follow the customs of both Taoism and Buddhism. However, Chinese in different parts of the world would worship different gods, for example in Taiwan and some coastal parts of China people pray to Ma Zu (妈祖), who protects sailors or those who travel on the sea.
I'm a Malaysian Chinese and we pray to all kinds of gods, my home also has a shrine for GuangYin, land god and sky god, and we're a modern family. Basically it’s normal for us to have a shrine(not massive ones lol)for gods, just like Christians put crosses in their homes. Even if we might not be particularly religious we just have them as a tradition.

The Communist government even uses the Confucius who is in the Chinese culture to establish and continue their power, but it is with the precepts completely distorted.
As for the resemblance between religions, I agree...In fact, there are few real distinctions.
In fact, including the Chinese way of praising gods as well as the Hindu, they are similar to how one does with saints in Christian strands...And the existential philosophies too, so the Orient is not so different from the West religiously.

All the mythologies all over the world have so many similarities!!
I thaught that Indian and European mythologies r very similar, but that was explainable bcoz of Indo-European connection. But even Chinese legends r so similar. Like the *flood myth* of Chinese, Indian & Biblical legends(but same flood myth is common in almost all the cultures).
Guan-yin is exactly same as Hindu deity of compassion, Gauri. But that is explainable bcoz "Chandi"(a many handed and many headed form of Gauri) became popular in Buddhism as "Cundi" which was transported to China along with Buddhism; she became Guan-yin.
But there r many other amazing similarities like story of Pangu which is *exactly same* as Hindu Vedic story of "Hiranyagarbha"; and such "Golden egg myth" is also popular in some European cultures. And *Yang-wang* is same as Hindu deity *Yama.*
Yin and Yang is similar to "Yoni and Ling" symbolism in Hinduism.
Also dragons are similar to Nagas and Monkey King is similar to many legends in India like that of powerful Hanuman (except that he was not that mischievous but kind).
Is it possible that all the cultures were part of a global ancient proto-civilization??
