- In this week's portrait painting video we break some rules. The goal is to show that it isn't about knowing the rules to portrait painting, but rather knowing the principles behind the rules.

Hands down THE best oil portrait tutorial I have ever had the pleasure of watching. You are very generous with your time and knowledge.
He is generous indeed.
I MUST SAY THAT THIS IS THE MOST DETAILED, AND BEST TUTORIAL ON PORTRAIT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!! REAL TIME AT LAST!!!! SHOWING PALETTE AND EXPLAINING DETAILS STEP BY STEP!!! SUBSCRIBED FOR SURE!!!!!! THANK U THANK U THANK U!!!
I don't say this often, and when I do, it's from the bottom of my heart.
In this day of greed and me, me, me... one seldom finds someone who cares about the starving artists enough to freely offer them a hand up, as you are doing.
To that, I must say that I am deeply impressed, and I admire you as well as the ones who raised you to be so caring.
Thank you,
Kathy

@@DCweldingAndArt Thank you Derrick. 😊
The most helpful tutorial I've seen so far! I've done it using goauche and it turned out so much better than my prior paintings! Thank you so much!!!!
Always the best I can’t get enoff thank you for your generosity. I watch 5 hours a day. mr young Sargent.
The BEST portrait painting tutorial. Reveals all the intricate details that other painters online tend to not explain in detail. Thanks for sparing this much time for us. A big like.
Absolutely a great tutorial! Your comments throughout about the colors, rendering form and color temperature we're priceless to our learning experience. THANK YOU!
breaking the rules netted one of your most succesful paintings. The drawing/proportion, values, are all on point. Nothing is overworked or overly tight. Even the palette looks organized. Worked steady and efficiently. Very nice approach and in my eyes, looked like a break-through.
I love you for these slow, detailed lessons. Such a gift for us all. You're wonderful to do it.
Dear sir ,it was lovely watching your video,no artist has explained this way we can only watch them painting ,there won't be any details about colors rendering etc etc.
I am indebted to your tutorials . Remember that after extensive search for about 3 years you happened in my painting learning.
May God bless you.
I am 55 and by 60 i will myself become one.
Thank you once again ,your instructional video made it possible.
Thank you again.
Karthikeyan G from India's remote village.
Yupari, you are so talented and it is so kind of you to share your process with us so openly. Massive thanks.
SUPERB. Helped me understand why placing features in dry media has been so confusing, AND gave me courage to do so in wet. Thank you so much for blessing me with this video.
yes, I was a bit unsure because I am a sculptor I always had a tough time mixing paint did not go naturally - so I gave up painting in lieu for carving stone, drawing etc. but now I am going to give it another try
Изумительный Художник, его ещё зовут Солнечным на его портретах очень много Солнца!
I’m an acrylic artist and can’t believe I sat through this whole video....now I’m writing all your great tips down!
Phenomenal! What a fantastic tutorial! ♥️
An excellent lesson on tone, color and proportion when painting a portrait. This artist is a considerable colorist with a sensitive touch.👏
This is an awesome lesson man! So many CZcams artist don’t show the pallet nor the reference. Much thanks
As a person with no painting talent what so ever - i admire your beautiful videos and art, it is a mysterious magic for me, seeing step by step how this wonderful art is created. thank you !!
I dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
Talking is done by the left brain, painting by the right. You are excelling in both of the activities simultaneously. It is incredible.
I believe he is narrating how he did it if you watch when his lips come into view they are not moving
I love portrait art, there's something special about a face... The face is the mirror of the mind, the eyes of people reflect the desires of their heart... I guess life is a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see... eyes are very similar to paintings in that regard, eyes often times say more then words can... if you can say it in words there's no need to paint it...
I am an acrylic artist, and even though you work in oils, your portraits are very inspiring. Well done!
I really appreciate all the time you take and the detailed explanation given in each phase of the portrait painting. This is one of
the best explanations of every aspect of portrait painting I have seen. Thank you for your efforts. They are really appreciated.
Great to watch the way you mix your colours on the palette and you really describe your principles and process beautifully.
Yupari...you are my favorite artist to watch. Thank you
the result of the panting is just amazing,i love it
As a beginner, I was just in awe. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and helping me understand value and proportion. Rosa from South Africa.
A brilliant portrait tutorial from a natural and extremely talented teacher. Thanks! Love the portrait too. You paint like one of the old masters!
You are a gifted artist and teacher, thank you for the detailed instructional video!
You are the one and only person to do such quality oil painting portrait videos. Thank you so much for your work and instruction.
I very much appreciate the what where & why that you explain as you go along, your work is wonderful.
Thank you for this wonderful video! Your kindness reminds me of Bob Ross!
A most excellent instructor and expert. So good. Great work.
Another stunning painting. I am amazed by the likeness to the photograph and it all seems so easy for you. I particularly am impressed with the myriad of colour tones that you mix from just a few base colours. I wish that I had just a fraction of your wonderful talent.

Excellent work. Been watching your work for over 12 months. Very well thought out lessons. Keep it going. Best
Incredible how this beautiful image evolved. Fine work indeed!.
You are amazingly generous to share. I’ve learned a lot . Thank you sooo much . Blessings to you ♥️
You have more of a linear approach, which is very interesting. You are able to keep the color relationships accurate.
watching this video again and am very happy to learn more subtle tips that I might have missed earlier. Also feeling sad that my previous comments have not even been read or responded to by Mr. Yupari. That means he would not even know positive comments from satisfied and happy viewers like me would go unnoticed! Thanks for the video and you are our great inspiration. Thanks again.
Unbelievably good! What a likeness! Don't think I've ever seen better.
Your video's are so valuable! Thanks for sharibg this!❤
Just listening to you speak, it is very evident that growing up, you did not spend near as much class time drawing as I did... where on earth did you find the time to get so good?!
My way of saying 'Awesome job, keep up the good work!' 👍
I'm glad you slow down how to paint realistic people... most of the time, other Art Instructors speed up the film too fast, & I can't tell what paints, brushes, or pens they're using, etc...
So helpful when starting out in painting portraits. Thank you so much! Your painting was beautiful. You have a real gift from God.
I loved the explanation of lights and darks. You make it look so easy for beginners. This was a wonderful show! Thanks for sharing your talents. I believe I can do this just intimidated with mixing.
il mio primo tentativo, grazie Yupari
Dude I just took a semester of art class in just an hour and a half, great teaching!

Absolutely wonderful result. Yupari, you are a Bouguereau in the making.....Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your decisions and thoughts as you work through your process. It is extremely insightful. I've been trying to unravel the "mysteries" of alla prima. Your videos I think provide some of the missing information. Thank you again Yupari!
Well, that was a shocker of a lesson to say the least. I've never seen that approach, but I'm new. I think your logic makes very good sense and the demonstration proved it so. Thank you very much for kindly sharing your time and experience and most of all your skill with me. I much appreciated hearing your thought process while you worked; Very interesting.. Be well and have a lovely day; Bye now from daisy :)
Extremely useful! BIG thanks!!
This is amazing, i hope it inspires lots of people to have a go ! Im watching this because theres so much rubbish on tv
My sister is a nationally recognized artist, and artistic ability sort of runs in our family. So I have seen great talent. But you are on a much different and higher level. Fantastic ability and to grace your audience with a running dialogue of the process. Incredibly beautiful work, Thank you so very much !

This is so helpful - really appreciate your commentary. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I used this method and got really good result right off the first try. Your explanation in repetition throughout was beyond helpful. I cannot thank you enough.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Very nice video and I loved the stroke by stroke moving forward video. I hate those fastforward videos that makes watching very dizzy. Wow...what a wonderful finished outcome you showed us! Inspiring. I had to put off painting due to my husband's illness that lasted almost one and half year! Simple flu and cold like symptoms but eventually it turned out to be some bacterial lung infection and figuring out what bacteria exactly are causing this illness and finding a remedy took so long...and in such stressful situation I could not concentrate on my painting activity. Well, now he seems to be out of those symptoms since last 2 months, I feel urge to start my painting activity again and this is the first video I watched to get inspired,,and I must say yes, it did inspire me! Thanks so much for your patience in explaining each detail. Blessings.
Thank you for such great illustration , not many artist take their time and show step by step how to draw portrait , you deserve a million thanks.
Very nice. Great artist.....God bless you my child.
Much respect from a fellow artist! ❤️

Very impressed of your portrait tutorial love the way you did it. Thanks,
"Wow! that is sharp! Beautiful and wild how you can make it so realistic with colors like blues and greens, reds etc. and turn it into skin & blonde hair. . Fantastic. Glad to have taken the time to watch you at work. Santa Maria, CA
Very good lesson. The colors used were surprizing and correct. I like his narration too.
Gorgeous Gabi 💖
Learned so much. Just discovered you. You are most relaxing to listen to. Thanks.

Finally a step by step tutorial. I love u man, thank you for that excellent video, very informative for me a beginner and late bloomer artist. Excellent teacher. You got a talent young man. Thank you for sharing it with the world. God bless you.
Your colours are what you want to see not what you are actually seeing - nice work none the less
wow!! im amazed!!
Thank you!! I appreciate your talent and this video so much!
Well modeled. The color of the light on the model, her base complexion is a lot warmer, more yellow in tone.Accents warmer.. Just in general. Though if you are painting classically, not visually, by eye, ignore my observations. You are experimenting with many different methods. That's great. It's fun watching the paintings emerge.
I like this portrait lesson very much!
When you said “uh oh!” You scared the beejezus out of me. Awesome painting dude:)
This video is very helpful and I very thankful. Will try to use the principles from here to Acrylics.
