Whoever curates this channel is a true hip hop head. This is an incredible set of chops. Dilla had an incredible ear.
Dilla focused on drums when he chopped this. Interesting technique
Even though it's an interesting sampling technique, it's still difficult to master that technique
...and, he focused on removing vocals, making it an instrumental and sounding like a loop. He made it sound like he did nothing. Maybe cuz of his humility. Maybe. But probably cuz he just loved how that part grooved and simply wished he had a section to loop. So he solved the problem and made 1. Dillas otherworldly skill is not finger drumming & "human feel" (tho that's excellently done) - but no - it's this. It's how and where he chopped a sample and how he played it back. He played the pads like a keyboardist plays keys. Sound & pattern. Keep sampling, people. But play em. Like dilla. No, not just like dilla, but how dill might be doing it today. Honor great musicians (and great people in general) by pushing forward from where they were forced to stop. Add to the chain.
@@24rival13 yall stupid that's how like 80% of people sample 😭 it just wasn't as common cause it was harder to match the tempo right
J Dilla a prodigy when it came to the hip hop scene. Amazing.
I will never get over how Dilla almost threw out this beat
I actually get it lol.
I think beats we put our heart and soul into making, people don't care.
beats we make in 5 min. for fun and its trash, people love it LOL
He didn't wanna feel like he was dissing Pete Rock cuz he did something with this sample, too. Thank Questlove for snatching it and giving it to Black Star
I’ve always loved when producers use a tiny part of a sample with vocals then chop to an instrumental part really quick, there’s such a charm to it being cut off like that. I’m so thankful that I discovered the legend who pioneered it through this channel. Great visualization of it too.
Jay Dee's beats are from another level
Pete Rock touched it first used it as an interlude on one of the Pete Rock & CL Smooth LP’s (The Main Ingredient maybe) Dilla took it to a whole different stratosphere.
thats why he told questlove to never put it out. Coz he feared he would outshine his mentor pete rock
Love the chops J Dilla was able to achieve in this beat, guy was a true master of the craft.
The editing, the sound everything on these videos is so satisfying, specially if you're watching on an OLED screen
Read the title Little Brother and almost thought this was 9th Wonder produced record 😅. Always appreciate some J Dilla. Genius producer and mind.
Would have loved to hear Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh rap over some J Dilla beats. 😔
I think I heard them say that this song inspired the name of their group
The way Questlove explain Dilla process is amazing
Oh man I remember seeing this years ago in the Red Bull Music Academy when ?uestlove talks about this chop.

I love the way you visualized it
Super impressive, this is top tier sampling
Perfect video! Such an impossible concept to describe depicted in a very simple and engaging way. Very much appreciated. I plan on using this as a visual aid for a speech in class I am doing on J Dilla.
The chords are beautiful in this song.
Nobody sampled, chopped, or had an ear like James Yancey. Sadly, I doubt anyone ever will again
Beautiful graphic and breakdown

They don't even sound like chops. It's so fluid.
Dilla had ears like a bat. Ive seen people try to recreate how Dilla did it and can't get it as crisp and fluent. Dude was something special.
J Dilla was not a human I refuse to believe he was human
R.I.P. J Dilla
WTH 7 SAMPLES to drop that?!!! Genius
Please do more little brother tracks 🙏🏽
Just for clarification, this isn’t Little Brother the group. This is a song titled “little brother” performed by Black Star and produced by J Dilla.
Only Dilla could pull something like thay
Is it even pitched down or slowed a little? Shit sounds crazy!
Do 6 Foot 7 Foot next!
Also, Can you please do Murs day by Murs next.

People throw around terms like "Musical Genius" and I never hear Dilla brought up, which is wild. Only a genius could have put that beat together like that.

Dear Tracklib, can I get permission to use a snippet of this in my non-profit content? I'll promote this service naturally, I'm just doing my thing to pay homage to these legends. Hope you can recognise it's all the love and respect that I have for these guys art.
Do death parade my roc marci
Dude, how tf did Dilla manage to piece this shit together? These chops dont reach over 5 seconds and he managed to make it sound fluid
Quest love talks about the moment he pieced this together on a Redhill interview i think.
@@SFTbeats ooooh
@@hoodlum6776 yeah, Redbull* not Redhill
This was not done in a program where you can see the waveform either, this was done on an old school MPC! I mean, he's not the greatest of all time for no reason.
Perfect ear for pocket
