I'm honestly glad it didn't turn into a ruin like half the neighborhoods in the city which is thanks to immigration. It's one of the most alive parts of the city. Plus they're some of the most hospitable people I've met. You could learn a thing or two.

I'm a recruiter for a branch of the US military in this area. I've been there countless times in military uniform and civilian. I've nothing but good things to say about this city. This place is a melting pot as there are people in almost every continent of the world. The food is amazing and very low cost. I'd highly advice anyone to visit if they can. My family and friends would agree.

My neighbors are 2 Iraqi Muslim doctors with 2 children. They are some of the most respectful, honest, kind and amazing neighbors I've ever had. Some of the comments here are absolutely disgusting and I am deeply disturbed by some of the remarks and accusations made against the Muslim community. Remember that we White people have fled religious and political persecutions just around 400 years ago. The vast majority of Muslims fled for the same reasons, but unlike us they didn't kill millions of indigenous people nor did they bring slaves from Africa.

The first Muslims to arrive were from Yemen in the early to mid 80s The City of Hamtramck was named after Colonel John Hamtramck, a French-Canadian soldier. Hamtramck joined the U.S. Army in 1775 and changed his name to the Americanized John Francis. He fought with George Washington during the American Revolution, as well as with Anthony Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. Made commander of Fort Vincennes in present-day Indiana, Hamtramck was active in the negotiations of a peace treaty with the area’s Native Americans. In 1793, Hamtramck was named Lieutenant Colonel in the Legion of the United States led by General Anthony Wayne to secure the Northwest Territory. After being cited for bravery, Hamtramck was appointed full Colonel and was made first commandant of Fort Wayne in Indiana. In 1796, Hamtramck led the garrison to secure Fort Miami in Ohio. He fought with George Washington during the American Revolution, as well as with Anthony Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. In 1793, Hamtramck was named Lieutenant Colonel in the Legion of the United States led by General Anthony Wayne to secure the Northwest Territory. Dearborn has a lot of Muslims but a lot of the Dearborn Muslim community lives in Detroit, Garden City, etc and drives in so it skews the numbers a lot.
