Dude, you just uploaded an almost six hour audio book while working on an actual paperback one; stop apologizing for the time it takes. You can't rush quality. Thank you for taking your time.
Well said. The quality of Dan's work is unmatched, you can't rush content of this caliber.

It’s just he’s so good we can’t wait for the next one. But really I agree.

Could you imagine being married to Dan?
"Hey Dan, is it raining outside?"
"Yes hun, but let me tell you how bad it rained in Flanders"
Dan's Wife "Hun what time is it?"
Dan, "What time is it? What does time mean, does it mean the same to everyone, is time universal. Think about how Einstein viewed time, or how time can vary as you speed up in a rocket ship. Some cultures view time as existential as something to be measured by a completely different standard. Ill quote professor (insert name) in his book called (insert name) he said quote".............
........10 minutes later.......
Wife walks away knowing it was her fault for asking.
4.5 hours later: "...and the final truce was signed in a railcar in Paris, on the 11th hour of November eleventh, closing one of the darkest periods in history, WW1."
He'd probably just refer her to a primary source.
@@Mixima101 your right about everything except it would not be 4.5 hours later it would be 11 hours later.
Well, where do we start? What is rain? Everybody knows water is H20, but where does the hydrogen and oxygen come? The oxygen is produced in heavy stars, but for the hydrogen you have to go back at least to the big bang, but even here we must ask, what was before the big bang?

"I'm not a historian" ...Proceeds to teach me more than my history teachers ever did.
@Jakob Patrick lmao
@Jakob Patrick mad?
@Jakob Patrick I was about to leave the same comment. Highschool history classes especially are worthless.
History teachers aren't necessarily historians. My history teacher from high school was great, but I wouldn't qualify him as a "historian." My college history professor would probably be a good historian, though, if he wasn't one already.
Frankly, Dan Carlin is more of a historian than a lot of history teachers. The history process is one of picking a subject, researching the subject, analyzing the research, and more or less coming to some sort of meaningful (and new) conclusion/insight. Dan probably does that a lot more than a lot of history teachers do.
High school history teachers don’t get to spend weeks on a single topic. They are forced to teach hundreds of years of content by state mandated curriculum.
The art work for this cover is awesome.
Dude they have always had insane artwork, I agree this one is perfect.

Thanks Dan, this series has been fantastic.
"As for the Japanese, they would be ground to powder." was an amazing cliffhanger of a line to leave us with last time.
"All of these Karmac deaths will be paid in full with interest..." another amazing cliffhanging line
As the grandson of an Australian that fought in PNG for 2+ years.
Toward the end of his life he started to talk about his wartime experiences occasionally.
He confirmed the fact that prisoners weren't taken unless intelligence wanted some taken.
He said jungle fighting often descended into medieval hand to hand fighting with whatever you could kill someone with.
The Japanese gained strength from their cultural upbringing, my grandfathers unit gained their strength from wanting revenge.
My father said the same about his time in Vietnam near the end of his life. He said even though the VC were no match for him and his guys in the jungle hand to hand, they just kept coming. I had no idea what he went through. I took him into my friends airsoft shop, and set I'm up with an m-16. He he shot one shot, handed the gun to me and said: 'I want to go now. And I don't want to come back here again boy, understand "? I didn't understand, he was an armed individual, etc. I suppose the gun triggered him.
Respect to your grandfather.

Highly recommend the mongol series and Ghosts of the Osfront. Dan has a lot of his older podcasts at his website behind a paywall, but it's well worth it
From a man that has studied these last stands of the USA and has once been in a very minor last stand, the last ray of hope makes men do demigod level acts. Never ever underestimate the power of a man that sees the light at the end of the tunnel to save his battle buddy.
And now we have Americans killing each other over parking spots, or worse yet; "disses". Unbelievable.
Thank you for your service. My Grandfathers didn't make it.
Fastest click of my life, excited for part 3!
Dan, making my heart skip a history beat
@A No homo
My grandfather was in WWII. He didn’t talk about the war very often, but would sometimes say he thought little of MacArthur, saying, “Stick with Mac, you’ll never get back.”
I only just got done re-listening to parts 1 and 2 yesterday, so this is just perfect.
Same! I finished relistening to part 2 on the drive home from work today, and was so stoked to see that this dropped.
Been refreshing my podcasts everyday waiting for this!!!!!!
As I'm listening to this, I'm typing up some letters that my great-grandmother wrote back in the late 1930s. She was living in China at the time. Pretty chilling stuff.
high school history teacher says: Dan Carlin, you say you are not an historian, okay, you're not an historian, however by the power vested in me by myself as a person who tries to facilitate learning in an American high school in the 21st century; I hereby declare: DAN CARLIN IS A TEACHER. 'nuff said, case closed.
At 4:21:01 "Mabuhay Macar's Army" Mabuhay is Tagalog for "long live" and "Macar" is the Filipino nickname for General Mcarthur.
Dan you never need to apologisse for not getting content out as fast as it used to , the quality of your work is always 200 out of 10 and if it takes a year for you to make 1 episode , then we will wait and happily await it , you cant rush perfection :)
Japan was a culture that bred horrible people who enacted horrific atrocities - there is no question that humanity is better off without it. We are all very, VERY fortunate that humanity's better side conquered such evil. It is an invalid notion to question the necessity of the use of fire bombing and nuclear warheads in this case. May the memory of the Empire of Japan forever lie in detritus.
Listening to mr. carlin is like listening to a buddy who knows a lot about history while chilling with a great whiskey and just enjoy the ride.
"you're outmanned, you're outgunned, you're outequipped-- what else have you got?"
"guile."
Imagine, if you will, that Dan Carlin says the word "again." And then he says it Again... and Again... And Again... And AGAIN....
Again, try to imagine Dan Carlin saying "again". Just try to imagine it for a moment. It's mind blowing.

On some level, isn't that what all historians are saying?
I seriously just laughed out loud hard in the car to this. Probably the best comment ever

Been having a really shitty couple of months, but thanks to this I feel like things might be turning around
"Ghosts of the ostfront" is still the best series of Mr Carlin
Wrath of the khans is pretty damn good and Celtic holocaust was hard to turn off once started.
Wow what a gem. Beevor, Hastings, Keegan, read them all and this keeps hitting me with fresh analysis and niche information. Loving it.
Easily the most underrated channel on CZcams. For Dan Carlin to only have 400k subscribers should be some kind of crime against humanity. You won’t find better History content on the internet.
Been waiting for this notification every day for months. Thankyou kind sir. 🙌🏽
If there was ever a live event where Carlin is on stage doing this, I'd totally go see it.
With pictures, maps, video clips, historical footage heck yeah
Carlin's ability to explain the viciousness and brutality of these wars is amazing to behold. He gets the point across in a way that hits.

Asking the question of "how many Japanese soldiers have to act this way before you assume they all will," I think it's just a matter of when it happens twice in a row. After that, an Allied soldier is mag dumping into every pile of bodies he sees.

Is history class made intentionally boring to keep us numb to all the b.s and feel good narratives? Dan shatters that concept, love this guy!
Best episode of the series so far, hands down. Overall this one is right up there with Blueprint.. absolute classic Dan Carlin.
38 minutes after posting and 22 comments and 50 views, make me so happy people love history.
me too. many people in America are genuinely interested in history but get turned off of History because a large portion of the history teachers in the public school system here are usually coaches first and history teachers second, often only regurgitating dates and names in a boring fashion. Those who have studied in the field should be in those positions to foster the passion for History in young students properly
