  • This is my thoughts regarding the Sennheiser E614. Imo it's a tiny little XLR microphone that sounds great for money and for the small size. It's an extremely portable little microphone that's underrated and should get more love.

I call the e614’s sound quality “accurate”.
And yes, it was designed for percussion instruments; drums and cymbals.

Just got one myself, definitely requires a lot of gain! Im using it about an arms length away and am fairly quiet, but its good for what I wanted.

I love this little mic! And yip it does require gain. I've been using it more up close for commercial reads.

Thank you for this review. I've been looking at this as an overhead for dialogue. This is the most that I have found about this mic. Think I'll pair this with a Triton Audio Fethead Phantom.

I'm not sure but, apparently mic activator such as Triton only works with dynamic mics.

Hi, just wondering if you ended up getting this mic to pair with the Triton Audio Fethead Phantom? If so, how did it turn out?

I happened across this mic about a year ago. For a mic designed for drums it has an astonishingly satisfying ability to capture voice. I use it currently as my boom mic for interviews and voice overs. It takes 48v phantom power and retails for $199 and, as you said deals can be found. Personally i have not found it selling for less than $129 used. Add a pop filter or foam cover and you are styling!!
    I love this mic!!

I actually really like this mic too. That said, I agree with you in that they don't go used very often. I think it's also partly because not a lot of people know about this mic. And what's sold was already sold. But it's a shockingly good mic for the price and size. Definitely a sleeper.

@@Dracomies i agree. The impact of marketing is massive. The motivation to experiment among consumers is pretty much non-existent. Which is a huge part of why I evangelize for certain equipment and for experimentation.

@@RANDassociatesinc It's honestly my recommendation for travel rigs. People tend to go on extremes with travel rigs. But this is just right. Extremes meaning an MKH 416 or insert __badUSBmic. But this mic is portable and is honestly good for paid work too.

@@Dracomies while i have an ME66 and lavs, for my paid work, i prefer the sound of the e614 in most circumstances.

Ya know, there is this thing called sophistication where we use a standard of weights and measures. When you attempt to convey the dimensions of an item you usually get a rule or tape measure of some sort, read it and then relay that information to the other party.
