Thanks for your honest opinion about the city; I totally confirm that as someone who lives here! Magdeburg is not a charming city, and even as a customer, you don't even get a simple smile most of the time! I live here for my studies and I don't really like it so it was interesting to see how tourists might experience it (Especially non-German ones). Have fun on your next trips!
Maybe the fact the de cathedral is protestant since 1567 is the reason that all the catholic richness is gone. In 1631, Magdeburg was also plundered by the emperors regiments during the 30 years war. Many citizens fled or died. The city was destroyed. And the bombings of 1944/45 didn’t help either.
In my opinion, it is a miracle that the city still exits after all the difficulties it had to face during history.
It is not a charming place. But it is resilient and strong. And if you open your eyes, you can see it.
But the extra charging at the Johanneskirche was not cool.
I plan on going back and giving it a second chance. The fact that it was sooooo hot didn’t help
Feels like they just charge you more if they suspect you are not a local and a tourist.
That’s exactly how it felt
Religion has no money today. haha
That’s honestly what it felt like! Like a shakedown for god!
@@SethinBerlin I think they have enough money in Rom but the have not enough priests today.
It seems strange to me to earn money at the entrance of the a church.
