I just got a mini today! My first electric! I am a very small handed short woman and this is perfect!
"oh no i cant record a good take of my own solo! My hands are tired!"
*enter the mini strat*
🤣🤫
Cant believe I got it wrong. Think the mini sounds excellent!
Try again, you'll get it right!
Yeah I thought tbe mini had more punch
Have you tried a Mini?

I have been really impressed with most of the Squires I’ve played lately. Looking for one for my daughter. That is her favorite color.
I never would have guessed the mini would perform like that..pretty cool.
X clean tone just flipped my world. Been wanting one of these, but now I'm definitely going to be on the lookout.
I actually got it right, but to be fair I have both in my house and haven't put my pro II down since I got it a week or so ago. I was super surprised at the tone the Mini puts out though.
ya those ceramic pickups are really raw and loud. also put down the Pro II while showering. it's not good on the hardware 😆🎸👍
I concur. I could tell the difference, but the mini didn't sound bad at all. As Landon said, it's not really a fair comparison.
Entertaining. I like the cleans on the mini,. It's when you add the dirt that the pro 2 really shined.
Best guitar channel on the net, I would like some amp video on your amps. great tone
Man, it was pretty difficult to guess which guitar was which. Overall great comparison. Keep going like that 👍
awesome video!!!, cool comparison.
I did get the blind challenge correct, but I was a bit surprised that there wasn't more of a difference in it. The mini pretty much sounded like I'd expect anything up to the Affinity line with Squier's ceramic single coils. That is, not bad at all, with plenty of attack. (By the way, did anyone else hear "Paul is dead" in that end bit?).
Paul Rudd!! 😝
Yeah, I got the first sample wrong, and then the second sample confused me with my initial choice. Yes, that mini sure has some bright snap to it, sounds really good. Thanks again, Mr. Bailey.
the ceramic pickups have a louder output for sure
I enjoyed the comparision! Liked ;)
Thanks! 😀
Come for the guitars, stay for the dad-jokes 😄
leave for the bathroom 🎸👍
Awesome video Brother!!
The Mini I ordered will be here Wednesday. It will look great next to my 50 MIM Daphne Blue Strat. If the tuning statbility is good I"ll end up giving it to my great-nephew to learn guitar on (and probably end up ordering mysellf another one).
I thought they both sounded fine, but nothing sounds good when I play it :-p
Thanks for the fun video Landon!
I feel the same.
cheers!
That mini sounds great! Impressed!
I think the mini would be pretty cool. I’m gonna look into them thanks
Is it possible to put a mini strat neck and put it onto a regular size strat body? Thank you
wonder if I play that with my big hands.. will it fit?
Less string tension on the mini?
I got it right but I was impressed how close they were.
Heard the clean tone I'm sold.
Love the sound of the mini!
Genuinely shocked at the result. I got that totally wrong and was absolutely certain I had it right! Wow
CZcams audio cannot be trusted! proof
Man it was hard to tell the difference, but that mini sounds really good.
Hi Landon what size strings did you use for the mini?? Thanks.
everything is stock
Got a Strat mini in pink for my 10 year old daughter last year for Christmas (with a Vox Pathfinder 10 amp). She loves it all. and the guitar is a perfect size for her. I’d love a pro II Strat for me.
ah nice! that would be a cool combo!
@@landonbailey Yes sir, she makes a glorious... noise... with that set-up!
Awesome guitar! 👌
how hard is it to show them side by side comparing the size?
quartz hardness
Shorter scale rules in the lower end. Sounds less compressed and big.
I experienced that by the Epiphone LP express I bought for fun. And it rocks my socks out 😂
I have a Les Paul express too. Even though I have 1k€+ guitars from schecter, a custom superstrat from a french luthier, I have the express in my bedroom next to my mini MS-2 from marshall and I found myself playing it at least as much as the others.
And once again, the amp wins the tone challenge!!!
Princeton wins!
5 points Griffondor!
I have a couple of zero watt amps, and acoustically, they sound amazing.
Can't stop laughing at Michael Bolt-On jokes!!! HAHAHAHA!!!
now I have to keep doing them!
@@landonbailey Yes you do!!!
This might be your funniest intro yet. Guitars and jokes. What could be better?
😆 more guitars too?
Nice to hear the Mini, I know tiny people who need a Strat!
Got them right, but the Mini wasn't really anything I couldn't listen to. Maybe there's better feel for the playability that would sway any decision ?
That mini sounds great!!!
Well I bought a mini for my kid. I hope they play it. It sounds amazing.
that's awesome! cheers
Thank you for this video... however, I wonder if you could produce a brief video demonstrating rock and other lead guitar sounds achievable with the Mini. My daughter is just seven years old, so the Mini makes the most sense... Still, she will blow through the basics of guitar in short order and be left wanting if the Mini does not produce some decent lead sounds. Not knowing if you play lead (sorry, I simply do not...please don't be offended if you are a world-class shredder and Jimi Hendrix contender), if you do not and can recommend some videos where the Mini is demoed for rock and jazz leads, I am confident a great many parents will appreciate it! Cheers!
czcams.com/video/FOOZWRF_-ps/video.html
Got the mini strat as my first electric guitar lol, still learning 💅
Rock on!
Same!!
I have very small hands. Is the neck width smaller? I have a strat but it’s too big for my hands. Hope the mini is easier to play for small hands.
It is
@@landonbailey I like the daphne color but fender doesn’t sell that color on their site. It’s just on Amazon. Why is that? What does Amazon exclusive mean?
I have a friend that is very short, I would love to give one of this little guitars for him to see if he can adapt. I'm not kidding. He is less than 4'11" tall.
really thinking of that orange mini they got on amazon
The Squire sounded better as clean and Fender sounded better distorted. That's my subjective opinion since the meaning of "better" isn't written in the stars. I got me little Squire because I wanted small guitar. One thing to notice is the tuners are not the best and I bought Fender tuners to replace them.
I have a mini with 11-46 strings on it. Low action. Plays and sounds great. Just as nice as a full size.
This would be a really nice fit for me , since I have really small hands 😅 It’s also quite interesting seeing these guitars : they certainly are not toys! Great sound🙂
If I had one of these I probably wouldn't have given up guitar.
hi, where did you find this blue model with a maple neck?
I bought from Amazon Canada
@@landonbailey merci !
That mini would be a lot of fun.
I don’t really get it, I have a mini strat, should I get a full size strat?
why do you have a mini strat?
@@landonbailey because I got it when I was 7 and now I’m 13, I also have a full size gretsch streamlinner
I was lucky to get it, thanks to the difference in the clean tones. Great video! I'm thinking i may want to start playing short scale guitars
That's what I'm doing, though I'm turning my Squire Mini Strat into something that would cost $6000 if it came standard from a manufacturer. My Mini Strat already sounds better than his $2000 Strat and I've only installed new PUPs, which is a very simple task that only requires knowing how to cut wires, strip the ends and slightly twist them together while having the right size of wire nuts to twist one over each of the connections (In Mini Strat only 6 connections). Finding great PUPs can be a challenge, finding better PUPs than the ones that come on the Mini Strat would be just taking a guess, based off of knowing nothing, for PUPs from a good name manufacturer like Seymour Duncan. If single coil is what you like then do not go for anything other than single coils, no stacks(The Single coil appearing humbuckers aka Noiseless Single Coils) or Mini Humbuckers that fit in Single Coil slots and you'll be satisfied. But to make a better decision just watch the reviews of the PUPs you think you want to get. With simply an audio patch chord, like 1/8 to 1/8th audio chord, you, on most phones, can plug one end into your phone and the other end into a decent to good stero that has an aux and listen to the PUPs being demonstrated that way. There is nothing wrong with CZcams audio, it's the same quality that was uploaded by the user, the shitty audio is just the shitty speakers playing through whatever device you are watching the video on. In fact, phones have that same audio, you can just plug a good set of headphones into your phone and get a great sample of how the PUPs actually sound(or close enough). The best type of headphones to use for this, so you get actual quality sound, are the traditional big bulky headphones that look just like this ----> 🎧 - I recently bought some studio headphones(that's what THEY called them), from Sweetwater for about $56 plus tax and shipping. While they do 'feel cheap' as in the material they are made out of, they are comfortable even when wearing for many hours(don't hurt your ears or head) and produce quality sound unlike all of the expensive earbud headphones, including a pair I payed around $100 for from Sweetwater, those style of earphones do not allow for quality sound because the speakers are too small. With Quality Earphones you should be able to crank up the volume while still being able to hear quality sound. Plus they don't section off and insulate around your ears to block outside noise which the traditional earphones do which enhances the quality of sound you hear while also not needing to turn the volume up as loud.
The PUPs I got were Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Psychedelic Strat Set, and Holly shit do they sound good in that Mini Strat. Do not buy into the BS everyone believes because manufacturers want them to belive it, that's how they rape you in the price you pay for a guitar. wood offers no value to the sound, neither does any hardware outside of the PUPs. Doesn't matter what wood it's made of, doesn't matter what the fretboard itself is made of, and going with a better Bridge doesn't affect the sound, it only makes notes sustain longer(if getting a quality material, which on Fenders Standard $1000 Strats(I have one) their bridges aren't made of quality metals even though most people, including myself, thought they would be paying so much extra for but turns out from places like Sweetwater, StewMac and GuitarElectronics(all places I buy from, sell their cheap shit they ordered with a Fender Stamp on it and you can buy one just like it for like $30, a Fender replacement(Exact Bridge)) POTs, aka the Volume and Tone controls don't even matter, they are literally all the same thing, Fender also orders their parts, that they add additional money for you to pay, without even a Fender Stamp, from CTS which Fender may charge as much as $12 for one pot despite, typically from the same parts store, you can get the identical POT, selling as a CTS Pot rather than "Fender Replacement Pot" for $6.
I love the Mini strat, it was a lot smaller than it looked, the body is pretty thin compared to a full size guitar, great neck on it, thin, the whole thing is pretty comfortable to hold and it's just easier to play because the upper frets aren't so far apart it makes some of those spread out 4 fret chords way easier to finger. And now with my PUP change, $300 set, Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Psychedelic Strat set of 3 Single coils, it blows this guy's $2000 Strat and my $1000 Strat away.
Love the dirty tone way better on the mini one
I got it correct but it was a lot closer than I'd have thought.
🎸👍
I got it right this time, but it's like tossing a coin.
That Pro ll is a beauty! I’m going to buy a mini for my granddaughters……and me
Back when the mini SG came out, it was really a good guitar.
Nice!!!
I got it right and the cleans are really nice on the mini. Really wasn't much of a difference - unbelievable!!
I got it right..but not because of the sound or tone or anything like that.. simply because I heard the mini was out of tune and I knew the short scale guitars always have this problem..😅😅..but it sounded as good I think..
As daft as this may seem, I can't understand why the fretboard is shorter and the general body is smaller on the Mini guitar (apart from it being a "Mini"). For people with extremely small hands, and I speak as someone whose index finger measures 6.75cm (2.65 in) in length, the issue is usually being able to reach round the radius, especially for barre chords. And yet the radius (radii?) on both guitars is the same. Hmmmm.
the answer is usually money 😆
hey, same size here.
i am considering the bullet mustang because of that... at least it's got the 12 inch radius...
the option would be to sand down a bit of the fretboard of the mini, to make it flatter like a classical guitar
I got it wrong. Thanks for the review Landon. If anyone doesn't have fun watching your channel they are not trying. 🤣
cheers!
I like hard-tails... and the "short scale" may be less of a change if you're used to playing Gibsons. Or maybe I'm just justifying it because I think it's cute :)
Ehhh… I got it right. My 4 year old wants the mini Jazzmaster, this gives me a little more confidence in it being pretty decent for him. Not the same guitar, but still a Squier mini.
Ya I've done some videos on the Jazzmaster mini as well
@@landonbailey I gotta check em out. I’m way behind. I got 3 new guitars this month so all my free time has been in the guitar room lately. Good news is that I feel like I have all the guitars I want now.. so it’ll be at least 6 months before I get another.
so the strat mini has the same size pickups as a normal strat? maybe I will get one and hot rod it then!
I could make the mouse that roared! 😎
Squier have improved SO much in recent years. Mike Rutherford (genesis) is currently using a Squier bullet with some mods as his main go to guitar
Tuners and electronics are probably the weakest parts overall
@@landonbailey I agree totally, with a few mods in key areas you and up with a very decent guitar. Especially if it already feels good in your hand to begin with
1) You actually show the guitar while the audio is playing, maybe that was some subconscius thing. 2) The mini was either out of tune or the lack of string tension made it difficult for you to stay intonated when pressing the strings. I believe a lighter touch or thicker strings might help. However the video helped me realize that the difference in tone is not that big and could probably be equalized.
I would like to see size comparison while your holding them in playing position.
the mini appears smaller if I were able to play both at the same time :)
Thanks, I'm looking to buy the mini strat because im a lady and I have small hands (why I'm able to fix Gameboys) I currently have a ibenz gio G60? Can't remember, old boyfriend bought and gave it to me - years and years ago - but, I don't want anymore---And it's too heavy for me plus I want something newer or easier for me to play on. I was looking at the mini strat to see if it be a good fit for me. I tried in the store (locally) and I really liked it, though, the pricing in a music store is more than Amazon. 150 used. But with the trade in - I think I will like this mini guitar----Enjoyed your video! To see me fix Gameboys or whatever I do (🤔) that be under my other YT name born-again-nerd. You Don't have to see it but, it's there, in case you had questions about retro games and *emulation (it's using other *software to play older games) But musically, I'm a drummer and just prefer to maybe try a smaller guitar 🎸 to play and learn on. Tootles!
That would be perfect for my son, who wants to follow me into the world of guitar.
Nice little guitar
The neck pup test was a dead give away; mellower than a junkie on Monday morning.
BTW unless I'm missing it [SPOILER!!!]

The mini strat was the X which had more clarity? I don't meant "tinnyness" I mean clarity?
You can always add distortion, it's hard to remove it.
Mini Squier Strats are so much fun to play.
And you don’t need to just play fun size riffs!
Are both ceramic pickups?
the mini is, but the Pro II is not
why do people call those small guitarts 3/4 scale when they are a little bit bigger than 4/5 of the regular strat size?
Got it right but just barely! Love that mini! Wish that color was still abailable!
they should do more maple necks too
@@landonbailey yes!!!! I used to favor rosewood but now i prefer maple necks. Partly cause of the way it looks but partly cause maple is finished and you don't need to worry about conditioning it. Maybe this could be a subject of another video.... for those who think it makes a difference to the sound. 😜
Just popping in to say that I actually bought and still have my Play Guitar & Have Fun t-shirt.
hey Bob! appreciate it. maybe I'll do them again in the future
Felt pretty obvious which was which. Longer scale usually has more high frequency content, and plays in tune better. The mini’s pickups also sounded a bit more microphonic which was a clue also.
What guage strings are being used?
stock on the mini and probably 9-46 or 10-46 on the Pro II
American Pro 2 Stratocaster $1,700 Square mini Stratocaster $170 okay I have two strats a Mexican and an American and I like them both a lot however there's not that much difference especially between the mini and the Strat is it 10 times better? well what if you put you know $1,500 into parts to upgrade your $200 Mini but aha you wouldn't need to do that all you need is maybe put on some better (heavier) strings get some Tusk saddles, locking tuners, maybe do a little fret work, buy some better pickups, change the pots...a few hundred max...
My number one's a white Strat with the maple neck so I don't know I've got two strats already so I didn't buy the Strat mini I bought the Jazzmaster mini cuz it's got humbuckers and it's white with the maple neck and it looks just like my Strat's little sister....I'm putting these upgrades into it now I like mini guitars I have ukulele's guitar leles and smaller instruments as well as guitars everything from baritone to classical to 17-in scale
Good for scales if you have small hands
I liked mini clean and big strats dirty tone.
👋 thanks
No problem!
the mini looks awesome
I spect that the mini wold had more lows, but i dont spect that i would like it more hehehe
the Ceramic pickups are loud and gritty
Yes it does
I've always played full size guitars even as a kid, but recently bought a 3/4 scale acoustic, and it's just fun to have on the sofa with me.
I once spent a frustrating afternoon trying to tune SOME type of mini strat for a kid (fairly sure NOT a squier) and it would NOT tune. I've never met a guitar I couldn't tune, that one defeated me. I was VERY annoyed, a guitar that couldn't be tuned is a personal insult! I don't meant wouldn't stay in tune, I mean wouldn't TUNE. I googled and meant to go back and make the wammy bar fixed in case that was it but by that time it was sold on (to some other family who couldn't tune it.. I now think it was incredibly bad tuners).
But it was NOT a squier as I say (I don't think anyway, was a few years ago, I think was ultimate cheapo).
I'm thinking I might get a mini. They are just so much .. fun!
PS If guitar X was the mini (I believe so I'm half watching and also just stumbled in from the pub) it's better?!
I DID get 'em right. I don't know whether I'm getting better ... or luckier.
I think a comparison of one guitar would be interesting. I'm pretty sure I could pick the winner with that one! Thanks! P.s.- you're odd, thats good.
was right , may get a mini..
🎸👍
this guitar is definitely worth the money and goes to show that a guitar is definitely not the most important thing when it comes to sound quality
Yep!
🎸👍
Put that mini neck on your American Strat and see how much that changes the "amazing" American tone. Conversely put that American neck on the Mini and see how much that improves the Squier tone. Even the scale difference between the LP and Strat, let alone Jag and Strat makes it impossible for these guitars to sound the same, let alone the nearly 3 inch difference between the Mini and American Strat. Which one sounds more stratty? Obvious. Which one sounds better? The Mini. Clearly. And you can prove my point by simply swapping necks. I double-dare you to do it.
czcams.com/video/FOOZWRF_-ps/video.html
Nice
Michael Bolt-on 🤣
That was an easy guess! I'd be hard pressed to not just get a Mustang Bullet instead of the Mini. syawlA nuf, nodnaL.
wow! I wrote that backwards
I wish you would compare the size
I got it backwards. Wow, maybe I should look into a mini.
I figured most people would, so that's why the end of the video is like that. just made up that reason right now!
Love just how real you are with what you say, no bs included. Solid sub from me.
welcome!
Got them right!
tough odds! 🎸🪐😆
Cool comparison! The American Strat seemed to have a wider range of tones so it kind of stood out in the test. I got it right.... I really did.
That is because of the scale length. It's the same reason a Strat has a wider range of tone than any LP or SC. Put a 25.5 neck on the Mini and you'll get a wider range of tones with the same pickups! And yes, that neck WILL work on the mini body.
