- In today's podcast I interviewed Phoebe who is a Navy brat that primarily grew up in Yokosuka, Japan. We talk about life in Japan and some of her realizations when she transitioned back to the states. She attended a community college before ultimately graduating from UC Berkley, where she says that she learned a lot about herself and her ethnic background. We dive into the longer-lasting effects of our military child upbringings and how they still impact us as adults.

I'm about 10 years older than you guys. I lived in Okinawa as a kid and got to go back as an adult recently. One of the hardest things for me was telling people about my connection to the military as a kid. Finding out the "darkside", as Phoebe put it, and learning about the complexities, as you stated, has continued to be a hard thing to process.
Thanks for doing these videos/podcasts. I just found your videos today because I'm doing a dissertation on CYA books about military kids. It's great to see military kids themselves discussing their upbringing in this way. I couldn't find any resources like this when I was in college and dealing with almost the same things Phoebe talked about in this video.
