Stationed there from Feb. 1967 ~ Feb. 1970 as a avionic instrumentation tech. At that time we had the RF101-C, RF-4C, C-47, C-54 and a T-29. The best time of my life!

My father was stationed here from '72-'76...working ATC as a TSGT.
At least once my brother and i visited the tower and hung out all day. Exciting for a child with all of the planes. I remember watching the base hawks train and work, keeping the runways clear.
    Can't wait to show dad.

What did they do to my Fire Dept, they painted it blue and white. Great memories of a great base though. Thank you very much for posting it.

That's what I was thinking. I was a firefighter there from Dec 79 to Dec 81. First worked at Station one across from the post office.

Brings back lovely memories. I lived at the entrance to the base from 1980-1985 at the caravan park ran by mr and mrs Buxley and a very Scottish groundsman lol ( as a Brit even I could hardly understand what he was saying ) I had the immense pleasure and honour of volunteering at the ARC on base as a caseworker in which I did many jobs but the main one was coordinating emergency leave for servicemen. This by far was the most satisfying job I have ever done.
Lots of good times there which I will never forget.
" sleep tight tonight Heyford is on alert " 😊🇬🇧🇺🇸

Thanks for the great shots. I was stationed there from 1987 to 1990 - I worked at the FTD and my wife worked out in Wing Intel. Our base house was one of the single story duplexes directly behind the Class VI.

Recently visited the place myself (November 2011) - absolutely fantastic and very interesting time thanks to Mr Todd! Always a fan of the '111!
Great video of your shots - must think of doing something similar with mine!
    Thanks for putting up

I worked there 1975-1977 as a weather observer. That shack on the cat walk on the control tower was where the observer sat while at work.

I was stationed there with AMS in the "C" Shop from 76~79. Makes me feel old seeing how the base has deteriorated and been left to rot.

Stationed at Upper Heyford from May 1957 to May 1960. Great duty station. Didn't look much like any of these videos, but the mind just remembers the past. We had lots of B-47 Temporary Duty planes mostly from bases in Kansas that would go roaring on alert scrambles. "Broken Arrow" alerts as this was Cold War time with the Russians. Plenty of trips into Banbury and Oxford cruising chicks.. When I first got there, a detachment of English Lady air force gals were Parachute Packers on the base, which caused some excitement. Strategic Air Command (SAC) was the big stick at the time. I burned up lots of ammunition while shooting for the base pistol team. Great memories and thanks to all

The WAAF were bussed in daily from RAF Bicester at around 1956/7. I was stationed at Bicester with HQ No. 40 Group in the Group Equipment Staff Office and Group Catering Office. It was a very pleasant posting to complete my 3 years on Christmas Eve.

I drove through today to have a look but sad to say Bovis Homes are re-developing a large part off the site and have demolished a lot of the smaller buildings that I remember from previous visit.

I worked in Bldg 299 30 years ago. You probably have a shot of the room, the CORNER of the room, in which I worked the automatic test stations for the 20th CRS. Surprised they left so much equipment behind in that and other buildings. Is it still a giant carpark, otherwise, or are the satellite pictures obsolete?
