    David Gilmour has himself stated that the Comfortably Numb solo was comped. There's never been any mystery about this. David went on to say that it was part of his compositional style to take the best bits of "one-offs" to make better music. What's wrong with that when he can play the final result live for decades afterwards?

    • @rockista4195
      @rockista4195 Před 11 měsíci +27

      Yes, Guitar World published an article on 6 March 2015 where you can read this: “I banged out five or six solos,” Gilmour says. “From there I just followed my usual procedure, which is to listen back to each solo and make a chart, noting which bits are good. Then, by following the chart, I create one great composite solo by whipping one fader up, then another fader, jumping from phrase to phrase until everything flows together. That’s the way we did it on ‘Comfortably Numb."

      I don't think they fight so much, at least no more than they used to. Keep in mind their mode of working together was largely....fighting. Same with Genesis. Without that, the music would be, well, Radio KAOS and AMused to Death to my mind are songs SO far beyond Pink Floyd lyrically, but musically, they mostly sound like anything else. Meanwhile musically Pink Floyd went on, and were the opposite.
      Both are grown men used to getting their own way, and now we have the internet to see it all. Likely MOST of the time with Pink Floyd was no different than how it is now.
      But as for getting along, just when they agreed to Live 8, I remember an interview where Roger said he wanted to rejoin Pink Floyd and basically make it his political machine. Quite rightfully Dave Gilmour said 'yeah, thats not happening'. Ironically NOW that he's left, he might as well just hand over the name to Roger. But the website thing was Roger bitching his stuff wasn't on there. I kind of think Roger has plenty of money. And from Daves perspective, letting Roger in the front door means dealing with Roger on a permanent basis.

    "Nothing wrong with David Gilmour's solos." No kidding! 🤭 They're masterpieces. And who cares how many takes? It was him playing those takes. If they were edited into a solo, kudos to whoever did it -- they're brilliant pieces that we can all get to listen to on the album and live, because the man will render them pretty faithfully every time, and that's good.

    I believe Roger Waters is unquestionably a great artist. His ability to connect with his audience through his music and live performances is undeniable. Moreover, his contribution to the world of music with Pink Floyd and his solo work has left a lasting mark on the history of music. The greatness of an artist is not limited solely to the creation of art but also to their ability to influence and touch people in deep and meaningful ways, and Roger Waters has accomplished this outstandingly."

    This man makes me love english language and england, he is the soul of Pink Floyd. High Hopes from Gilmour alone is the only song wich approach this feeling, but it's a kind of mimic of Waters concepts. Waters is a poetic writer, a conceptual artist, with a great scope vision. " And I've got second sight, I got amazing powers of observation". Of course Pink Floyd was great all together for the whole landscape and the aesthetic, but Roger is more than a musician.

    Glad to hear the memoir's still incoming, I've been looking forward to that since you first mentioned the possibility years ago. Lovely to hear that you're still a fan of Dave's work, it's my opinion that it took the spikiness and truth of you to wrest the best emotive work from him, and between the two of you that work will last the centuries, sort of like Gilbert and Sullivan, or similar, and that's a mighty achievement you've made as a group. Having said that, and not to be mischievous (of course!), I'm looking forward to Dave's all new version of DSOTM, especially his own bass riff for Money, plus of course the inestimable Polly's lyrics, something like........

    It's quite nice

    Money

      @@randomlyrancannabis7020I'm sorry but I don't think Waters won anything. Gilmour and Mason won the case against Waters, made an album in 1987, and had a very successful tour in 1988. In that same year Waters had to cancel his shows because no one went to see him and at the same time Pink Floyd was sold out all over the world. Waters himself said that he and Pink Floyd played a concert on the same day in the same city, Waters played in front of 4000 people and Pink Floyd played in front of 70,000 people. After that year Waters never toured again until 2013 if I'm not mistaken, because the concerts of his solo albums were not successful and in 2013 he revived the wall. In '94 they released The Division Bell which is the only Pink Floyd album to achieve the success of Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon and they did the biggest tour in Pink Floyd's history (Pulse). I understand that you don't like the albums after Waters, but the others won in every way, which is why Waters is still very angry and resentful when he talks about pink floyd. He can't stand that they were successful without him and he can't stand that their albums beat all of his solo albums. I don't understand why you say he "settle the beef", less than two months ago he did an interview in which he insulted Gilmour and Rick for no reason and in a very aggressive way.
