Now that a few months have passed since my last comment, I've actually avoided a knee replacement by having Stem Cells placed in my knee. The recovery was less than one week and I'm doing very well!

With the question and answer starting at 1:42:05, I literally had a dream foretelling that when I was a student at UPenn in 1994 or 1995.
When she mentions scar tissue at around 14-15 minutes, is she saying that procedures like fat transplants for burn and complexion scars on the face would be futile? I know a common plastic surgery procedure today involves grafting adipose tissue from the lower stomach, which contains stem cells, and implanting it into the face and other affected areas by burns and serious skin disorders that cause scar tissue is being tried right now by numerous plastic surgeons. Plastic surgeons claim this can regenerate the damaged tissue over time and fill the affected areas that have cell damage and atrophy, so I wonder if it is a legitimate procedure some plastic surgeons are performing on patients.
I hate scars. I hate the way they feel. They feel nothing like normal unharmed skin. Could stem cells do anything to fix scars and scar tissue?
maybe in time - scientists still need to test whether the regenerated cells function correctly in the body and don't cause further complications - but with each year the technology gets better

This research is quite amazing. I recently did a research project about this, and it has become more and more fascinating to me with the more information I encounter.
How can the speaker imply we don't want fat cells? If it weren't for fat cells, I wouldn't be able to stay productive for 16 hours without eating. Maybe the liver would be enough to get me through one day, but doing so repeatedly would be impossible without fat cells.

If the experiment is is going to benefit humans, and not mice, then it should be humans who pay the price, not mice. Also, mice are innocent; some humans are not. I had my stem cells injected into my hips over a period of 5 Months, because of a loss of cartilage in my right hip. I truly was hoping this would be the answer to restoring the cartilage in my hip, but after paying a lot of money and completing my treatment, it didn’t work for me! The sonic part was because that scientist went home and saw his child had left out a comic or magazine that had sonic the hedgehog on the front. Hence the name was coined for the gene that we all have but was initially identified in fruitflies. Imma lay person so that's as much as I know.

There are lots of seminars where these docs show slides but never bring out a patient who has had this done. Now I have heard they often inject hyaluronic acid which acts as a pain killer. Yes indeed, you can get a shot of hyaluronic acid and paid by your insurance company. Lets see the clinical trial proof.

+Louie Rivera Actually your asking about telomer regeneration. If you can find it on dvd to rent, the science channel broadcast 6 episodes of a program called "Futurescape" narrated by James woods. One episode was titled " do you want to live forever". It shows the scientific research that has been done on telomeres and their triggering of new cell production. At last check there was a company offering 90 day injections for a year at $40,000.00 per injection. The program research was all done using mice so it was in vivo but absent human trials. It promises to offer you the choice of how long you wish to live in a healthy young state. That will do wonders for the social security system and world population. Major adjustments will need to be made. Right now you have to be rich to use it.

So if we find ways to make the body make 1 stem cell each time it divides we can live longer and healtier. Other research show that less everyday stress and more targeted stress will lead to more healthy stem cells. Of course cant forget less polution and more natural foods helps as well. We should be concerned about science of stem-cells becoming proprietary and just another form of business. If you can get cancer, you must have stem cells already resident within. What causes problems in pregnancy can also occur in healing. Cancer is a normal cellular process within the genome: trophoblasts, the first differentiated cell in the life-cycle that makes up the entire placental complex of chorion and amnion. In normal pregnancy, eating is the important thing. Not medicine.
Consult the Dalai Lama's Doctor who uses the subtle diagnostics and ultra specific recommendations for herbs and diet for EACH individual person........We are still guessing at things in the West, and NOT ascribing to the 5,000 year old treatments from India nor the 3,000 year old TCM and Tibetan systems. Much as I love the entire concept of stem cells, at least with regards to the regeneration of missing appendages, you really have to be something of a sociopath to be able to inflict that kind of suffering on another living creature. I couldn't do it, least not on an animal sentient enough to react frantically, in fear, of a pain source. I mean, I could never deliberately wound or maim a salamander just to see its leg regrow, least not several times just to see what happens... I hope they at least show mercy and give the animals some kind of lidocaine injection before they assault it.

Well I remember reading years ago they would burn a pig's heart and then heal it with stem cell surgery. And I have a heart issue called atrial fibrillation that is very debilitating and all they want to do is burn my heart. See the irony here with modern medicine instead of healing the heart they want to damage it more.
