    There was one person that was loyal to Cole from the beginning
    The Phone Line Lady, no matter the circumstances and despite the fact that Cole cheated on his wife, the phone line lady continued to help Cole and Jack when they needed, whenever they needed sone assistance, she’s always there to ask “How can I help, detective?”

    Anyone felt any sympathy for Hogeboom? The guy was so traumatized by what he did at Okinawa, burning the civilians alive by Phelps' orders, it truly felt like he was mentally "killed" by the horror he committed. And if that's enough pain for him to suffer through, his own psychiatrist uses him to burn down the bogus properties just so he and his other co-conspirators can cash in on the urban fund.
    I really enjoyed the backstory of some of the important characters during their service in the Pacific Theater. Shows how much some try to abandon the wounds they've sustained in the past while others were already long gone because their wounds cut deeper than the skin.

      @@trooper_springhat3722 I wasn't. Not to say I didn't sympathised with him, because I did. Immensely. It's just... This outcome was objectively the best, and Kelso knew it. What are the other options? Life sentence? Psychiatric ward? None of this will ever fix what Fontaine has done to him or what Phelps did...
      Sidenote 1: Upon writing this I discovered he's only 30 y.o.! I was thinking he's like 50 or so... I was always thinking stress can actually accelerate aging, but my god...
      Sidenote 2: I'm surprised I missed how bad Phelps was in the L. A. Noire. He didn't even realised Ira was in his squad, despite all things they've been through AND the fact Kelso told him there's someone from their squad out there. He's an antihero, borderline villain of his own and the lives of the people around him

      I wonder if he was faking it to save face or if it was genuine. Despite ruining Cole’s reputation, he was the one who got him promoted to Homicide and Vice, he almost saw him as a protoge, and respected him in a twisted way. He wanted Phelps to also become a dirty cop like him, but he realized that Cole was an honest goody two shoes

    • @TheFarnhem
      @TheFarnhem Před rokem +42

      @@theTrevorluck I'm 99.9% sure he was acting. I mean hypocrisy is the central theme of the ending - you see that him, the mayor and the chief got away, and Peterson, who knew very well that they're dirty, struck a deal with them and now shakes their hands with a warm smile like they're best buddies. Roy helped to promote Phelps because he saw he's good and he could use a great partner, but yea he figured that Cole was too clean and sold him to the Suburban basically.

      I'm annoyed at a lot of things.
      How stupid Sheldon and Elsa were, why did Ira take Elsa to the sewers to begin with, the short unsatisfying ending after at least 20+ hours of gameplay, how homicide was all about one single perp that already got old and repetitive after the third case, how it was never elaborated what happened between Floyd Rose and Errol Schroeder, how there's a big damn city with nothing really interesting to explore, how there's little diversity in Street Crimes, how all we know about Cole's life is just his time as a marine, barely seeing his wife or even how and why he got into a relationship with Elsa, I could name a few more things but I don't want to.
      I like this game, but God Almighty there's a lot of problems with it, I admit it's a little underrated perhaps, but at best I can give is a 7/10.

      If you watch the ending cutscene as Roy finishes his eulogy he says "a detective who fought to expose the evil corruption of the murderous Dr Fontaine and the rapacious property tycoon Leland Monroe" meaning that they will take the fall while Roy, William and Fletcher all bargain their way out with Leonard Peterson. I'm assuming that Peterson may have abandoned his crusade against corruption but I'm wondering how he got Roy, William and Fletcher to bargain their way out possibly blackmailing them to exonerate Cole Phelps and securing Jack Kelso in exchange for his position as District Attorney replacing the corrupt Donald Sandler if not compliant he'd expose their notorious corruption. Nearing the end he begins to stutter though hardly noticeable considering and possibly he felt extremely guilty.

      I’m annoyed about both. I don’t understand why this game has such a sad ending. It really doesn’t need to have one. You’re playing as a virtuous law enforcement official. With a game like GTA or RDR, where you play as a criminal, I would prefer a sadder ending as criminals don’t really deserve happy endings. I’m not saying LA Noire should tone down on any seriousness. I just think a MUCH better ending would be where Cole Phelps survives and Roy Earle dies.

So Cole’s weaknesses were exploited. His inability to share with his wife about his days in the war lead to him seeking out Elsa. Who like Cole, had something in common when it came to war. So in effect, there was no DLC even released for this game. It just got abandoned ... really upsetting. This game was a very unique gem that carved an entire genre for itself on the PS3 (and that is an impressive feat).
      It deserved better than this. There should have been episodic content constantly being released periodically to keep interest for this game, almost like Hitman (2016).

      Rob Nickerson Totally agree. At least a tiny bit of a moment from him wanting to redeem himself whether it was through a flashback or a dialogue exchange would have made his death give that stamp of “yes that was a good death”. Even up to one of his last lines was about needing the guy alive to make a case. So perhaps a line or two by Elsa telling him directly what a good man he was to her or his ex-wife or his daughters say something about him being a hero, just anything, to flesh out his desire to “make right” his past would have been enough to round out the main storyline.

      Roy is what he is, for better or for worse, and he will never change. He is already all he will ever be. Anything "different" that changes his character can only possibly be what is hidden within him, that he shares with no-one.

    • @asayospacegoat6384
      @asayospacegoat6384 Před 6 lety +68

      I think Roy did genuinely respect Phelps. He DID go out of his way to get him as a partner, and during the Vice case when the British boxer makes a run for it, Roy goes against his normally selfish nature by letting Phelps protect the man (even if under vocal protest).
      Is Roy a good guy for that? No, but I can appreciate that he had genuine respect for Cole. I *would* say he laid it on a little thick, especially given how poorly they get along in the end (with good reason)--and that you can fake.
      He absolutely did *not* have a turning point. However, I feel that no one had to twist his arm to be there. I do feel this scene makes him a more complicated person in subtle ways, and I like it for that.

    After buying L.A. Noire for my PS4, and finishing the Vice desk and finding that newspaper where Roy rats out Cole... I'm disappointed in him. I liked Phelps, but when he develop feelings for the german jazz singer (forgot her name) I lost some respect for him. But still, he's one of my fav characters.
    And Roy, that corrupt, racist scumbag asshole hopes he gets killed in L.A. Noire 2... but that will never happen :(

      I felt the same way too my first time playing the game. But then I did the storyline again (and again and again 😋) I realized how much sense Cole and Elsa make. They’re both tortured souls and find comfort in each other and help the other get over their demons

      Corrupt cops sometimes do get their come-uppance, so don't be too downheartened. His gangster friends may decide he's outlived his usefulness at some point.

    Just finished this game for the 2nd time. I was definitely not smart enough to completely understand it back then. I played it as a freshman in high school... Such a great game. Definitely one of the best I've ever played.

    however its a matter of sorrow that the developing team Bondi went bankrupt so maybe no chance of getting any sequel

    "Hundreds of thousands of dollars" 8)
    Inflation between 1947 and now is roughly 1000%
    Kind of a let down when you think that we have cars (not even houses or boats or planes) that have been sold for more than the value of all that morphine. Who wouldnt want a 20 million dollar Ferrari anyway?

    If this game gets a sequel, (I doubt it though) I think that it should be set during the 60's. Think about it. A new war, with an enemy you can't even see nor shoot, and a war with no clear goal. Elsa could've had a child with Cole, and that child could be his predecessor, with him tying the loose ends of his father.
