  • Just wanted to share a chill photoshoot using Pro Budget (cheap compared to RF line) lenses by Tokina. Tokina is a third party lens manufacturer that created two beautiful lenses for the Canon EF system, the Tokina 16-28mm F2.8 and the Tokina 50mm F1.4. When you compare the cost to a canon rf equivalent, it is $2000 vs $6000. How can you even compare.
    Even though it cost less, I still think the images coming out of it are amazing. I am not a pixel peeper, I do not check sharpness, or tech details. I like checking rendering, micro-contrast and the mood that the photo brings you.
    Anyway, hope you enjoy the video, and don't be afraid to use these lenses, because I like them a lot!

    I have the previous version of 16-28mm. All is the same except for the look of the casing. It is a great lens.
    I will try to get that 50mm as well. Only had a manual lens so far.. but the autofocus in video became really good in these last years.
    That lens is heavy.. but I also have a Canon 40mm 2.8 pancake here.. so for casual shooting to try some codec out that one will be my lenscap. Cheers

      Ye new casing and lens coating if I remember correctly.
      The 50mm is crazy good. Ridiculous.

    If they had managed to put 72mm filter thread on the 16-28 I guess I'd like to have both :-D Since the old EF 50 1.2L from Canon isn't that sharp and has tons of CA I want to try the 50mm Tokina. Wide angle wise I recently took Canon's very old 20-35mm 2.8L to Tokyo (it has a 72mm thread, just like the 50 1.2, 85 1.2, 135 2...) but it's not the sharpest at wide apertures and doesn't have correction profiles.

      @razororange  Před 9 měsíci

      oh man, i had the old 20-35mm f2.8L and i regret selling it. it was such a great lens.
      haha ye, the old ef 50mm f1.2 is only magic in some situations, most of the time, i'm spoilt by the rf version.

      @@razororange yes, especially for the used price I got it for the 20-35 is a steal. I've also gone down the rabbit hole and got myself the 28-80 2.8-4L, 80-200 2.8L and 100-300 5.6L - getting the OG L gang together :-D

    Thanks for this vid. I have been looking for a lens that can compliment my RF 28-70 f/2 IS USM lens. I have looked at the wider primes and some of the other wide angle zooms and have only been able to see photos taken by photographers who are not quite professionals. I think that this lens (Tokina 16-28 f/2.8) is the lens that I have been looking for.

    • @razororange
      @razororange  Před 2 lety

      Ye, it's definitely a lens in my wedding arsenal kit. When you have $3000-$4000 to spend on rf glass for a wide f2.8 lens, then sure. But if $1000 is your budget and quality is almost identical, the this tokina is so good.
      Haha 'taken by photographers who are not quite professional,' made me laugh

      Just casually waiting for a tokina opera 70-200mm f2.8. that should be next on their list, if it's ever going to happen. Sad that not many people use tokina lenses. I prefer tokina rendering and look, over tamrons and sigmas anyday of the week.

      @@notoironfist1280 Sigma's are great in that they work. They look clean, and free of most distortions. If I had to compare to fashion brands, it's like a country road, or a Hugo boss. Simple but nice.
      But I don't want a simple and nice. I want an edgy shot where you can see 3d detail. Kind of like a Gucci or balenciaga, or a Fendi feel. Something more wild and free.
      That's the microcontract 3 dimensional look that you see in some lenses.
