Prayer Before Birth

This a powerful poem by Louis McNeice, Prayer Before Birth.
MacNeice wrote this poem during the Second World War, which makes it even more poignant as the world that the babies of the time were being born into, was one of absolute horror. One can only imagine how much worry the parents felt bringing a child into a war torn landscape.
It is a prayer said by an unborn child, wishing and praying that life will treat them well. The baby hopes that their life will be one without barriers, hate or lies. It is a heartbreaking read.
