Skiing through its multiple towns, we discovered Trois Vallees in the French Alps. We enjoyed exploring the adorable town of Les Menuires, the lively Val Thorens, the sophisticated Meribel, and the glitzy town of Courchevel. Along the way we learned some local quirks and ate our way through the local delicacies of the Savoie region. From hearty alpine specialties to local aperitifs- we stayed entertained during apres-ski with some epic backdrops. fantastic video guys, I live in the UK and have been lucky to ski this area a few times. You were so unlucky with the snow, its normally stacked but it was great to see you both have an amazing time in what I truly believe is the best place on earth

Orelle is the go to spot if you want to have an amazing view and enjoy the non-crowded slopes :D. My favorite part of Les Trois Vallées together with piste Olympic in Méribel

Nice video, but just a few comments. Les Menuires has nothing to do with carpenters ( that's les menuisiers ) but is derived from an old word for mine . There was an old coal-mine down in the narrow valley/gulch when you go down from Les Menuires towards La Masse, supplying local needs. I'm surprised that there was a visit to St Martin ( few seconds view of church ) but no comment at all of the village whic is regarded as the most unspoiled/natural in all of the Three Valleys.
The apartments in Les Menuires are so small because when they were built - 1960's - the French government was into social engineering and wanted skiing to be sonmething for all levels of income, so they built the ugly blocks and tiny apartments to keep it as cheap as possible and encourage skiing for all, thinking that people coming from similar public housing in Lyon, Paris, Marseille etc wouldn't see any difference and wouldn't object. That obviously didn't work out and developments from the second generation of resorts ( 70's onward ) built more attractive blocks and slightly bigger apartments.
Courchevel has the second-most expensive real-estate in France after St Tropez: it is twice as expensive per m2 living space ( usual French way of pricing real-estate ) as Meribel, and three times the price in St Martin ( Belleville valley ). Looking at the written introduction, the vlogger must be one of very few people to call Les Menuires "adorable "
Thanks for the correction on the name Derek, and the history behind it! The St. Martin church was filmed from the bus that took us back to the train station, we were stretched thin trying to cover all of Trois Vallees in the time we were there and the snow in that area was quite bad.
Les Menuires is adorable to me, there is a humbleness that I admire to the town. It is a place you can visit even today to ski without breaking the bank and I think thats a rare find these days. In that way, I think the French succeeded. The world is full of expensive luxury ski housing and I can neither afford it, nor am I drawn to it. Thanks for supplying some of the history to this unique town.
Which region of les Trois Vallées did you like best? We're visiting in a couple of months, having previously visited Portes du Soleil a number of years (which is also very great) but the sheer size of Trois Vallées is just daunting!
Our favorite was the Belleville valley (Les Menuires and Val Thorens), lots of great skiing and cheaper accommodations. It's easy to take the day and hop over to the next valley. That being said, we'd like to stay in every valley eventually. Next time we go we'd like to stay in Méribel and see more of that valley. You can't go wrong anywhere.

Yes, but since Verbier (CH ) uses the name "Les Quatre Vallees ", they can't change it ( apart from the decades of wasted marketing that would be )
What ìs the deal with Americans refusing to put down the safety bar? Don't you value your safety, or is this what the cool kids tell you to do?. As a European, the thought of not lowering the bar has never even occurred to me.
We put it down, but for a lot of people I think it's wanting to be cool
@@braunventures Sorry stumbled upon your video, didn't necessarily plan on getting involved in this discussion at any point, but how often do people not put down the bar in the US? Is it like a 50/50 percent change or something? I saw people complain about this happening in Europe on Instagram, thinking it's not cool to put the bar down. I just don't necessarily see the cool part about endangering yourself or others at an altitude of 3000m like in Orelle haha. Sorry for the question, just trying to understand I guess? Maybe it's a difference in folks going skiing here in Europe vs. in the US
What about ski slopes preparation, they are prepared all days or not? This is sooo important for me
I'm pretty sure they groom it overnight. I remember seeing the groomers at night lighting up the slopes in the distance
What date did you visit please? Trying to judge snow depths.
That was the second week of February, snow was not great last season from what we read / experienced

If you're looking to party, go to La Folie Douce for après ski. We loved skiing over the ridge on the orelle side, less people. There's an aquatic center in Val Thorens that looked cool, but we only went to the one in Les Menuires. Enjoy!
I like your down to earth approach including your appreciation of the food aspect. I go there every year and often miss some more powder. We are renting a huge chalet, so you bet I felt pity for you living(?) in that appartement.I have been to places like this before and recommend to report this to the human rights commission of the United Nations. I got refunded 50% of the lease! Just kidding.

The biggest is dolomiti superski in italy, 1200 km of slopes vs 600 km in 3 vallees
We love the Dolomites, and you can define these things differently, but from what I've seen the difference is that you can reach any point in Trois vallees using only lifts without taking your skis off. From what I read about Superski, thats not necessarily the case and its a bit more disjointed. Either way, would love to check it out next.
And how many bus rides do you need for those 1 200 km ? 20 or 30 or more ?
